The right environment is necessary for this astoundingly courageous companion. One needs to know they are the loaded gun of dogs. Before anyone should buy a Jack Russell, they would be wise to join the JRTCA . After study it is advised to get a dog from those who are the guardians of the breed. We suggest to purchase a dog from JRTCA registered dogs who have passed the unique registry that is prot

ective of this working terrier. It has been kept a working terrier by those who care about it's future. Please study what has been written about the dog and it's behavior. The behavior is hardwired into this dog. It makes it unsuitable to many situations. To know this may prevent dogs from needing Russell Rescue, Inc. Dogs purchased on impulse from a pet store or puppy mill is highly discouraged. People discard dogs without much thought. is first of all interested in helping the current owner of the dog understand behavior and needs of the dog in their care. If there is any way we can PRESERVE the home it is in, we serve to advise these current owners so they may keep their dog. If we can foster care a dog for someone in temporary difficulty and be able to reunite them, we are happy to help. We do not offer a quick fix. We are for the dogs who are lost or strayed or are in peril of destruction as discarded pets. Rescue dogs accepted for placement must be of sound character and have not bitten and/or shown aggression to a human.

Say hey to Piper!!! She’s about 9 months old and ready to roll. All vet work has been done and she is very healthy. What a great little companion! As you can see she likes to help with yard work! She can also help with bed making (burrowing under the covers), and laundry (playing tug of war). If you know Jacks you know that she is super energetic. She’s always up for a bike ride, a walk, a hike, or chasing a ball. And JRTs like to bark…they are happy and expressive talkative dogs. If you want a quiet lap dog she is not it. But…she does love to snuggle and be loved on. Mainly…she loves everything as long as her owner is there. There is no sitting around with this girl. She wants you to get up and get moving and spend time with her. We want her owner to be home most of the day and be able to keep her engaged and happy. She is used to playing with a large male dog. Lady Bird is a 6 year old little female. She is a bouncy little Jack that loves to play. We have gotten all of her vet work done, and she is very healthy and energetic. She definitely needs a secure yard with a good fence so she can safely snoop around. No short chainlink. No electronic fencing. No wrought iron. She is crate trained and house trained. Lady Bird needs an energetic owner. Walking, jogging, throwing the ball, playing with a toy, running around in the yard and keeping the yard safe from critters are all things she really enjoys. Tipper in Kingsville/Corpus Christi, Texas:
Tipper is only 1 year old. He loves other dogs, and even cats!! If you adopt him you better have a large supply of toys. Even though he’s young he’s already house trained. Tipper is a very light heartworm positive and is on Advantage Multi. He is not affected by it at all. All vaccinations have been done and he will be neutered on August 17th. Doc in Bryan/College Station, Texas:
This is Doc! He is a 5 year old neutered male smooth coat Jack Russell Terrier. He is currently in a great foster home. He loves toys and will play with them all day long. He also is very sweet and loves people and cuddles. He gets along well with other dogs and cats but would not be good in a home with small critters (birds, rodents, rabbits). He is partially potty trained and just needs some more practice. He is also kennel trained. He needs a home with a properly enclosed fenced in backyard. Doc was diagnosed with epilepsy but is doing well on his medications and the seizures are managed. He trembles a little bit but it doesn’t bother him. Scout in Houston, Texas:
Scout is a beautiful 5 year old smooth coat girl. She was dumped in our area. We took her in and provided a safe home for her and her litter. We were able to rehome the pups but not her. She has been vetted, spayed, and is up to date on vaccines. Scout is very healthy and energetic.
We do not have a fence so for her safety she lives inside in a kennel and the kids walk her. Due to our long work and school hours she doesn't get much attention. Its no way for a dog to live and it's unfair to her. She is a high energy, smooth hair, and lovable girl. Loves to play with other dogs and does well with playful cats. Lew is a very handsome young man. He’s about 1 ½ years old and is a loving companion. His only problem is that he will only be really happy as an only dog. He doesn’t want to share the love or his mommy. He’s house trained and crate trained, and has all his vet work done. He’s playful and engaging and thoroughly enjoys playing with all his toys. Like many Jack Russells he’s not going to do well with any type of little critters, such as hamsters or parakeets and so forth. We also don’t really know how he does around children. This pretty girl is Swiftie! She was rescued back in the Spring by animal control from a household that didn’t treat her the best. She is now in her forever home and having the best life and best summer! Swiftie is loved and cared for, and as you can see, enjoys going paddle boarding with her dad. Her new name is Trixie and her mom tells us that they love her so much! Happy Tails Trixie! You are home sweet home!!

Well, this little beach bum has done it again! You may remember Finn from our last Happy Tails post about his beach adventures. He was adopted from Russell Rescue several years ago. He loves walking on the beach with his mom and dad. Look what he brought them this time! After a quick dip, he brought them this shark! Jacks will be Jacks!
