Reva the speed demon retrieving them ducks!
I am slowly getting back to training 1 month after having my baby.
On July 13 and 14th I trialed both our Labs at the Moncton Retriever Club hunt test.
Reva earned 1 pass towards her Junior Hunter title on the Saturday. Unfortunately on the Sunday, the last duck in the water was just too hard for her. She will need 2 more passes to earn the title.
My friend and training partner Tammy earned 2 passes with Kira, Revas half sister.
Winner is #10, Paula Marie 😊 pm us!!
Thank you for everyone who contributed to the fundraiser, collar is ordered for my client and will be here Tuesday 🙏
Some name recognition training with Reva today. Kira honoring, learning to be patient and have self control watching another retrieve
Couple long distance marks with Reva. Shes a bit fast 😅
Tried Reva in a lot of long grass and she did so good! Thanks Myriam Carrier for throwing and Tammy Jaillet-Mark Poirier for videoing
Reva doing some basic lining drills, first time on this field and she didn't get shown the piles
Shane Rice and his dog Hilda are shown practicing for their BH, which will be tonight, under judge Edgar Pertl from Austria. The BH is an obedience title required as a prerequisite to be able to do IGP1 - 3. It consists of a long focused heeling pattern, both on and off leash, a sit stay, down stay at 30 pace with recall, long down under distraction, traffic test/temperament test, and written exam for the handler. Might sound easy, but the requirements are strict and expectations are high now for the dogs entered.
We are at the Quebec Regional Schutzhund Championship for the weekend and hopefully Shane and Hilda do well at their first trial!
Thank you to our amazing friend Jade for always holding down the fort at home for us while we are away.
Going to be a fun weekend watching some good friends compete with other IGP3 competitors for podium placements, and a qualifying scores for Nationals.
Then Monday there is the show which Hilda is also entered in.
Blaze focused heeling on day 18 of training.. really starting to come together!

Yesterday's weather was good for retriever training!
Della has had 15 days of training for the trained retrieve/FF. Its the first Toller we've trained for hunting work.
She has done hold training, collar conditioning, hold in distractions, turning around on the table without dropping, and finally, pickups off the table. Today was first day pickups off the floor and deliver to hand on the table.
We are so proud of how she is doing and the main thing is she's enjoying the work! :)
She will be going for some hunt titles this year if she's ready.
Another boring nail dremel video.
This time explaining how I do it with pups who have no nail trauma.
Handling is another issue you need to work on before you get to this point.
I did handling with Jake for 4-5 days before dremeling his nails, so he understood that Acceptance of Restraint or Handling = Reward.
Ivy the cat helped out this morning
Long stays build character.
Long stays in distractions make good dogs.
People struggle so much with stays. The mistakes often I see are:
● not moving forward in training. (Remaining on the same difficulty level for too long)
● keeping the dog in a high arousal state for the entire stay. Dog never relaxes, always expects reward often, becomes fidgety, whiny, and breaks if rewards aren't given often enough.
● not teaching a clear consequence for breaking the stay.
● people recalling dog from stay, which actually ruins your stay.
● only doing stays directly in front of the dog, instead of teaching walking behind, out of sight, etc
● people never introducing distractions
These pups both have less than 14 days of training and look how capable they are!
We see a common theme in dog training.
People don't expect enough of their puppies.
Expectations are set low.
Dogs never learn how to acheive good obedience because people aren't expecting enough.
I'm here to show you what 5 and 6 month old puppies are capable of, in just 9 days of consistent training. Puppies are capable of impulse control. Theyre capable of responsible behavior. They should be allowed to be puppies, but also get taught how to become dogs that can fit into society.
Mini series on How to Teach Stay in 14 Days, coming soon!! (will be available for purchase)
Jake, 5 months old on day 9 of his board and train. Looking pretty good! Getting some control and manners, and his obedience is looking nice! Smart pup!
Lija goes home tomorrow after her 3rd 14 day program here since she was a puppy!
She is graduating from Service Dog in Training to Service Dog!!
She has done so well and learned how to pick up, carry, and retrieve items during this stay.
She is returning in April for one more stay, we can't wait to work with her again.
A service dog should provide tasks for the handler that the handler can't do themselves or may need assistance with. They also can provide emotional support for PTSD and anxiety disorders.
Lijas owners sent her for her first training around 6 months old where I assessed whether she would be a suitable service dog prospect or not.
Fortunately, she was! She has a calm, friendly temperament, and is neutral in public, and towards dogs and people in public.
She's safe and intelligent, and on her own, provides emotional support for her handler.
Her owners continued the training and public exposure in between her stays, and have done a fantastic job preserving her training.
Now that she is task trained, she is ready to accompany her owner to assist with daily living.
Lija making huge progress in her task training for service dog work.
Such a smart dog
Service dog Lija learning new tasks! Picking up dropped objects for her handler
Probably the most boring video we'll ever post, but so important.
This is how Lija gets her nails done and eats her supper at the same time.
Work on handling every day, and you'll get here too!
Bandit working on vacuum desensitization the other night with Shane :)
Rival von Ducasse really didn't disappoint at the world championships
