Anton Pilks - Xaghra Dog

Follow Anton's progress to his new life in the Cotswolds Chris spent weeks pushing to help him and is now adopting him.

Anton is a fox terrier cross who has spent much of his life in a small dark stone building in Xaghra, after a campaign on facebook he was finally freed by the welfare. He will start a new life in the Cotswolds in the UK.

02/01/2024

It’s been a busy day, I had to get up really early and I didn’t even get my walk in the water meadows, then we spent sooooo long in my big sis’s car!

When I got out of the car I nearly blew away! We are by the sea but I won’t be getting close to it.

I had snacks in the Windy Cafe, then we went in the car again to Bridport, my favourite shop was the shop full of dog treats, they had a hard time getting me out, I did lick some of the treats I saw to make them mine but it didn’t work! I was bought something to go on my food to make me less windy! Well that’s just rude!!

Then we found our home for a couple of nights so we had a rest, then we went to pub for tea, I had some fish, then a big dog came in, she was massive, and even more fluffy than Teddy, her name was Martha so then my mum started talking about the hedgehogs to Martha’s dad.

Now I’m all tucked up in bed , I hope we don’t have to get up too early tomorrow

A busy day working in the hedgehog rescue with my big sis! I helped with the morning clean out, keeping an eye on those prickly things, I needed to check the food was tasty for the prickly things and the lady gave me a bowl of water but the water in the jug for the prickly things tasted better.

I went in the car and then we went to the park and then I helped to take photos of all the donations, and checking out some new stock, but then I was falling asleep standing up.

Today was something called Charter, and that means helping my big sis on the hedgehog stand. I got all excited when we went in the car, but she drove me to a field by the charter, then I stepped on a thistle so had to walk on 3 legs.

I met Bernadette and sometimes she walks around with a big hedgehog on, I’m a little confused by that.

I had to get out of the way quick the procession was coming, I was happily sitting in the sun.

Then I helped with hook a hog, and as head of security I had to meet and greet everyone, including my friends from the water meadows, they were at charter too some of them.

I did get very tired, but I had extra biscuits, carrots, some chips and ice cream, it was the best day ever.

I even found my own way to the club, I know the way because I go there with my dad, so I was able to stop and talk to lots of people.

I’m going to sleep well tonight.

I’m in bed already, these days are tiring me out, plus I got stung on my ear by a stinging nettle and it still really hurts.

I went to the new rescue building and then had a walk in the park near by, then I had to do more garden patrolling, followed by a trip to the tip, I had to stay in the car while big sis threw things into really big bins.

I had a lunchtime snack and a little nap, then we went to the storage unit and put things in a big box there, then Emily came and I went for a walk with Emily and my big sis.

We went in the car and saw something called a Roman villa, I didn’t know what that was but it looked like someone has not finished building something, then we walked to 3 big ponds, Emily told me it was the reservoir which I was confused, I saw cows, ducks, seagulls, swans, horses and fish.

Then we went back to the new rescue to fill the car up again, I really am exhausted.

Today was a big day, I went to work, I refused to get up until 7.30 , I’m not used to early mornings, I even took my breakfast to work with me.

Teddy isn’t here to finish by breakfast for me so I can make it last all morning.

I went to the top of the world this morning for a walk before work, and work was really good, I sat in the sun watching big sis gardening, it’s exhausting just watching.

I couldn’t keep my eyes open on the way home, and then we went to the new rescue, I know there is a cat there but I couldn’t find him.

We went on another walk and then back to patrolling the garden! I have to keep that black and ginger cat out! That’s my job. Early night I think, I’m shattered.

I have been so busy I forgot to share my day yesterday, I had a lie in as no one gets up early on a Sunday, well I don’t!

I spent the day helping in the garden, and barking at another dog who lives opposite, big sis says she is called Roxy, I haven’t met her.

I went to see the Horsbere Brook, on my walks, it just looks like a river to me like my river at home.

There were more prickly things and I got very confused when big sis put one in the bath! She said it had oil on it, I don’t know what that is but the water went black! I try my best to help in between patrolling the garden. There are little houses in the garden but I don’t know who lives in them. It’s all very confusing.

My mum and dad have gone shopping with their friends, so I am staying with my big sis! Her house is so much fun, she said I am on holiday at her house. She does get up very early!

Today I helped my big sis, Jane and Moria in the hedgehog rescue, I am also in charge of making sure there are no cats in the garden so I patrol the garden regularly.

Then we walked to the new hedgehog rescue and I met Kate and her dog Daisy, she looks like a tiny teddy dog, at the new place we had to empty somethings I can’t remember what she called them, I was too busy looking for the black cat I saw last night.

Then we went to 2 parks, one had a river just like mine at home.

Then I did more garden patrols and I had to do a vet run, I was a little worried at the mention of the vet but we took one of those spiky things. Then we had lunch and Emily and her friend Ella came to collect me.

We went to a place called Painswick, I did lots of running and investigating as there are so many new smells.

Then I helped in the garden, I helped to give the spiky things bowls of cat food, I was so busy I forgot all about my tea at 4pm, it was gone 5 when my big sis asked if I was hungry 😊😊

We’re having an early night and I wonder what we will do tomorrow 😊🐾🐾🐾🐾
