Quick update as I know a lot of you are concerned about, and rooting for, the girls.
Both Phoebe and Piper are doing well. Fantastic appetites! They are enthusiastically eating 3 to 4 pouches of cat food a day, plus some formula to add calories- and some dreamies of course!
They are really good at taking their meds. Loxicom at the start of each day (such a tiny amount that they just let me syringe it into their mouths), along with an Opixcare l-lysine chew and Synulox antibiotic with their first and last meals of the day.
They get their eyes cleaned twice a day. And they get brushed in an evening- which they both really like!
They are alert, climbing up the bars (Piper likes to hang upside down from the top of her crate!) and purring.
As i type this, I am watching Phoebe have a wash after eating some lunch :)
I know you are all with me in hoping they continue to be so alert and active and well, thank you for your support always and for your lovely messages following the loss of little Pru x

⚠️WARNING ⚠️
FAKE SNOW IS POISONOUS TO CATS - please ensure your Christmas decorations are safe for your pets most products with fake snow are poisonous .

Fake snow Chrismas tree can be really dangerous if your pet ingests any.
Although cats climbing trees is one of the most common accidents we see around this time of year, this isn’t the only way trees can do damage! It's not just the fake snow that is dangerous. The oils in fir trees can be mildly toxic, which will cause an upset tummy if swallowed. The needles from tree can get stuck in your pets mouth, throat and paws

To avoid issues hoover or sweep regularly and don't leave your pet alone with the tree.
You can also look out for Nordmann Fir trees which are known as the ‘no needle drop’ trees and are a safer alternative.

Last night after 9, I found Pru laying on her side in her crate (being isolated in my bathroom). I immediately got her out to see what was wrong, and she was floppy. She was floppy and had agonal-like breathing. Rang the emergency vet and said that I had a dying kitten in need of a vet.
Drove to the surgery mostly one handed with one hand stroking little Pru. She would occasionally let out a small cry, letting me know she was still with me.
The vet was wonderful. He looked at the history of her and her sisters, listened to all i was telling him, and thoroughly checked her over- feeling and listening as well as watching her. Her body temperature was too low to get a reading on the thermometer. Her head kept tipping back.
He said indicated a neurological issue.
It didn't look good. She was already being given antibiotics and painkiller, which is pretty much all that could be done. She was so weak.
Through tears, I made the decision to help her on her way and ease her distress. She didn't flinch as the needle went in, she was gone almost instantly. I was stroking her head and holding her little paw, telling her she was loved and how sorry I was that I couldn't save her.
Rest in peace little Pru xx

Some nice news to share: Buffy is settling in really well in her forever home :)
She is already adored by human and animals alike! She has established herself as Speedy Gonzales meets King of the castle! She still dunks her whole face in her food- and moves so fast you can't wipe it off! :D
The cat she is meeting there is the actual brother of one of my cats!

It's not FeLV.
So, each of the 3 kittens from this litter is being housed separately to ensure that no bacterial infection moves from one to another of them. Barrier nursing techniques are being employed with them.
Phoebe is booked in for the double enucleation on Tuesday.

Piper is booked in for an enucleation on Thursday. We are hoping she only loses the one eye, and that Pru doesn't lose either. It's a waiting game while we clean eyes and give meds.

Today's vet visit came to just over a hundred pounds, thank you everyone who donated. Piper's procedure should come in at around £430, going from what Duke's cost. We have, thanks to your generosity, raised some of this already.
Any money donated towards these kittens that is left after all their bills have been paid, will be used to reduce the current vet bill.
Thank you everyone. I know you are waiting with me.

Horrible news this morning.
Piper, Phoebe's sister had a swollen eye so i went to make an appointment at the vet for her and Pru while i was out. The wonderful Sharon on reception got us an appointment this afternoon.
I went and picked them up, to find that Piper's swollen eye had ruptured :(
It all happened so quickly with her.
Her other eye seems completely fine.
So, Piper will need the ruptured eye removing.
What is the big concern though, is what is causing this with their eyes? Their cat flu symptoms are very mild so seem unlikely to have done this to the eyes.
Due to not knowing about the environment or parentage they came from, there is so much we can't know about them.
We are currently having Piper tested for FeLV, as this cat leukemia can cause such issues with the eyes.
If it is feline leukemia we will have to rethink operating on either Phoebe or Piper.
Piper's other eye is completely fine, as you can see.

Phoebe is booked in to have her procedure on Tuesday. Lots of treats between now and then so she is as heavy as can be!
It is absolutely fabulous that she will be having the double enucleation so she has the chance to live a long happy life, but we have to remember the risks. She is very small. She has a snotty nose from cat flu. Both factors increase her risk when anaesthetic is concerned. She will need positive vibes/hopeful thoughts/prayers and a skilled surgical team.
I know the team have the skills as Duke is proof.
Duke has swagger that indicates he isn't missing that other eye at all! I think this image of Duke and Cherry will be our Christmas card this year!

We've had a message from the lady who has paid off our vet bill in the past- she says she will pay for Phoebe's op, don't put her to sleep.
I guess this is exactly what it means when they say 'money talks', but this is saying something positive.
Phoebe is just a small kitten, so undergoing anaesthetic is a risk so we aren't out of the woods yet. But there is hope of a future for this little one.

If you have donated towards her op, there will be meds and aftercare still to come, if you would like your money refunding, please message me, once everything is paid for Phoebe, any remaining donations would be put towards the outstanding vet balance.
Thank you to Phoebe's benefactor, and to each of you who didn't hesitate to send money.

Little Phoebe was back at the vet again today. Her eyes are so much worse.
Turns out it wasn't just cat flu :(
She has lost her eyes, they have ruptured.
A double enucleation will cost around £700. We don't have that.
We have until monday to decide whether to remove her eyes or put her to sleep.
Basically, we have until then to raise this amount or the choice is out of my hands. Our outstanding balance of £1391 prohibits any treatment without it being paid in full. (As requested: paypal is: [email protected] and bank details are: account name: kitty care rescue account number:53886905 sort code:20-51-08)

In herself, Phoebe is a playful kitten. Not being able to see doesn't seem to stop her.

Tell me what you think. What would you decide?

Someone has made himself at home on my inside out Oodie on the top of the laundry pile!
Duke has fit right in to being in a home, which just adds to the heartbreak of the three of them being dumped- they hadn't come from a barn or similar, they came from a home.
I will introduce you all to his brothers soon, and maybe all three of them could find homes by the time they go to be neutered! That would be amazing.
For now, here is Duke claiming the top spot :)

Edit***It would seem that there are some issues with using the wishlist at the moment. I have reported them to Amazon. FYI it doesn't matter when the kitten food will arrive as we always need it! If you are really local, it is £12.50 for a box of 40 whiskas kitten pouches in Asda at the moment. You can drop off at Swear Interiors in Pwllheli (i'm working on other drop off points)***

I've updated the amazon wishlist. Our bank account is empty. We still need help to pay the huge outstanding balance at the vet, so please keep chipping away at that- every fiver helps.
We need cimicat for poorly Phoebe and her sisters. If anyone could treat the rescue to an early christmas gift, cimicat is what we need!
We also keep running out of kitten food :( so if you can help with that, please do.

Another busy day today.
Firstly- an incredibly exciting day for the rescue as Buffy went to her forever home :o
Yes, after more than a year here, someone finally fell for her sassy cuteness and adopted her :)
I've already heard back that she is taking everything in her stride and still has no fear despite being tiny! Pictures will follow x

Then our one eyed boy went to the vet for his stitches out. I'm calling him Duke, it's princely and suits him, and is short for Marmaduke! He was so good, stitches came out easily and he'd done a great job keeping the wound site clean and taking his medication. He's a little star. Adoption post won't be long coming for him- that's how much progress he has made!

Poorly teeny Phoebe had another checkup, and although her appetite has improved (which I am incredibly pleased about), her eyes have not :( I now have to force her eyes to open so i can clean them 4 times a day. Poor little mite screams like mad as her eyes really hurt, and she doesn't understand that I am trying to help. She's now got another 7 days of antibiotic ointment for her eyes. I hope they start to get better soon, it breaks my heart the way she screams as I'm cleaning her eyes.

Thank you to everyone who helped pay for today's vet visit for Phoebe.

We have some teeny kittens in. They are adorable. But. They've been separated from their mother too young. They've possibly been wormed too late to save their eyes- only time will tell.
There are 3 in the litter. 2 currently show no signs of anything being wrong (long may this continue), but one of these tiny girls has been to the vet. She got some antibiotics as she is showing symptoms of early cat flu, and she got some ointment for her eyes along with strict instructions to return on friday because one of her eyes is so swollen, the poor vet couldn't actually see the eyeball.
Her eyes are already showing improvement, but the little mite is having to be syringe fed as she isn't eating enough.
We had a couple of vouchers from the rspca (that's a whole other post) to cover yesterday's trip for Phoebe and the other 2 who had to be seen- but we need to raise money to cover the follow up visit on Friday as the rescue bank is empty :(

Edit *** He is Duke. Short for Marmaduke. Duke is the name of a hero, a survivor and it suits him.

Someone is merrily purring away this morning :)
He is friendly and affectionate now. He keeps his wound clean and will be having his stitches removed at the end of the week.
He needs a name though. I've tried a few and they just don't suit him.

🎃 **Happy Halloween from Kitty Care Rescue** 🎃

Wishing you a purr-fectly spooky season from all of us at the rescue! Whether you're trick-or-treating or curling up with your favorite furry friend, we hope your night is full of fun and cuddles. 🧡 Looking for a little magic this season? Consider adopting or fostering one of our sweet cats—they're the best treat of all! 😻

**Black Cats & Halloween** 🖤

Unfortunately, black cats are at higher risk around Halloween due to superstitions and sometimes even cruel pranks. Many rescues take extra care not to adopt out black cats during this time to protect them. If you have a black cat, please keep them safely indoors, and remember—these beautiful kitties are full of love and bring nothing but good luck! 🌟 Keep them safe and share the love this season!
