I’ve been asked by our very own Pearly King Bickers Clark to share his moving tribute poem for Remembrance Sunday in honour of all our fallen heros.

Alfred Clark was born on 20th April 1931 to Vi and Wally Clark and grew up in 105 Hampton Crescent. His gang was Bert Sparks, Duggie Roots, Ken and Porky Bardoe and Albert Fryer to name but a few.

Alfred was known as Squibs but later took the stage name Bickers and was a born entertainer. As a young lad he would sing on the Gravesend mud with an audience throwing down half pennies from the pier.

Along with his beautiful late wife Barbara they were our Pearly King and Queen and were often seen at festivals and events around Gravesham.

Bickers was at his happiest entertaining, he was a singer, a song writer and appeared on Noels house party with Barbara and also Eastenders I believe. Performing cabaret in the 1950s was a great joy to Bickers and he was also a quartermaster for P&O.

At the grand age of 94 Bickers may have slowed down a bit but has written and created a beautiful reel to honour our fallen.

PLEASE share this far and wide for Bickers to celebrate a life well lived and a lovely man who appreciates the impotence of the memory of our fallen heros.
