Happy National Kitten Day! 🐾

Celebrate with us as we highlight the cuteness and charm of our little furballs.

National Kitten Day reminds us that while kittens easily find their way into our hearts, many end up abandoned in shelters or feral. Spaying and neutering pets, including cats, is vital for their health and reducing the stray population.

This day also encourages adoptions over purchases from pet stores, as many kittens born in shelters need loving homes.

Help us raise awareness to ensure every kitten gets the best start in life.

Share your kitten stories and pictures in the comments!

***REMEMBERING THE CATS***

Thousands of cats were dispatched to the trenches during WW1 to keep rodent numbers down and act as early warning detectors for mustard gas. So many gave great comfort to the troops as companions and mascots. How many cats survived we will never know?

Paws At The Ready -
The cats of World War One had significant role in all the campaigns, we must honour their bravery too.

Give thought to all the kitties
who served in World War One.
A battalion of the finest
who never fired a gun.
What was their role?
Whether hunting rodents out at sea,
or loyal friends to men,
these many cats had vital roles,
time and time again.

The food was saved.
A common sight in trenches deep,
dispatching mice and rats,
the soldiers’ had a special bond
with many of these cats.
Many were treasured mascots.
Five hundred thousand cats were sent
to serve in the Great War.
Some detected mustard gas,
whilst others were off shore.

Some of the feline heroes -
Togo was the Dreadnought’s cat,
The Swan had their lad Ching.
Pincher was the Vinex’s mog,
it was luck they hoped they’d bring.
‘Martinpuich’ was aptly named,
by The 9th battalion chaps.
Pitouchi was the orphaned kit,
who’d survived on army scraps.
Spark Plug, Tabby and many more
were companions to the troops.
The feline unsung heroes,
those cats who became recruits.

We’ll never truly realise
just what these cats went through.

So spare a thought and give some thanks
for what they did for you!

And don't we know this. Some of our cats dig for a while. We end up cleaning the mess in the box and the mess they kick out of the box. Nice job making us laugh about it, On The Prowl.

Another lovely poem…

To a wonderful artist

Thank you

And Thank you to a Dog Lover for sharing this beautiful poem

“The corgi's lament

I woke up in my basket, the day after you'd gone.
I felt so sad and lonely, no lap to sit upon.
I had no-one to run to,
No treats to take with glee.
I had no plans for walkies, now you are not with me.
I know I'll be looked after,
I know they will be kind.
But you were my true Mistress,
And I've been left behind.
I hope your journey's peaceful and all I wish and pray,
Is I'll be there beside you,
Once again one day.”

We also was to acknowledge the artist

Thank you

Grazing/yard to rent in Sussex / Surrey for Horse Rescue Charity - Urgent Appeal

Kilmarnock Horse Rescue is a registered charity and we have been given notice that our current home is being sold. There is no option for us to buy the land.

So we are seeking somewhere for our 20 horses and donkeys. We are tidy, quiet and friendly. We have excellent landlord references and are looking to rent 15+ acres

Ideal areas are Gatwick and surrounding - Crawley, Redhill, Reigate, Horsham, Hayward Heath and everywhere around or Inbetween - we will consider anywhere so if not listed please still let us know!

Our current home was found by word of mouth and was not being advertised. We have been lucky and very happy in the fields that belong to a home that were being unused. Do you know of anywhere like this - land not in use? Going spare? Doesn’t need to have buildings, stables or barns (any would be a bonus though) as we have our own field shelters. Doesn’t need to have electric, must have water or a means of.

Searching for land in this area is like panning for gold - so we are asking everyone to please share share share - we have been given 6 months notice to move and we are so worried about finding somewhere to go.

Carol has spent many years caring for the rescue animals and our friends who look after children with Autisum so love their visits.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Please share share share this post

You never know who may see it and who may know someone who has somewhere for the kindest lady in the world and her rescue animals to carry on doing good ❤️

If you know of or hear or see any possibilities please message our page with the details

DONATIONS

If you would like to support the charity with a one of or regular monthly donation - you can easily do so here easy peesy via PayPal or with a debit or credit card on our website

Thank you 🐴❤️

Here’s a lovely story for the hottest day of the year!

Once upon a time, in the KadkĂśy area of Istanbul, Turkey, there lived a cat named Tombili (a traditional Turkish name for overweight pets).

She was known for leaning against stairwells and staring at passers-by. Her kind personality was also well-known. When she died in early August 2016, a petition to honor her life gathered 17,000 signatures. Seval ahin, a local sculptor, made a sculpture that replicated her reclining stance.

The statue vanished a few months later, causing a public outcry. "They stole the Tombili monument," a Turkish legislator was quoted as saying. They are the foes of all things lovely. Hatred, grief, and war are all they know."

Two days later, the statue was returned.

Even if you don’t ride or have horses, this us worth reading to make us all grateful for the lives we have

Choose to be grateful.

I turned my horses out this morning, wishing their paddocks were just a little bit closer so I could have an extra 10 minutes in bed. 1500 miles away, horse owners are walking their beloved friends to forests and fields and letting them go, hoping they have given them the best chance of survival, not knowing if they’ll ever see them again.

I walked down to the arena yesterday, looking to the sky, cursing the rain as it fell. 1500 miles away they are stood watching the sky for missles and planes, praying that the distant explosions don’t get any closer.

I complained about the price of fuel today, how was I supposed to pay for that on top of hay, shoes, training and entry fees? 1500 miles away owners are risking their lives for a bale of hay or bag of feed after deliveries were unable to reach people and supplies were exhausted.

I started to make a plan working towards my first event of the season today and found myself frustrated at the lack of places to do some good canter work. 1500 miles away, people are just praying they’ll survive the next 24 hours. They are simply grateful for every passing minute their barns are left standing and that they are still breathing.

I sat in traffic today, annoyed that I might not make it home with time to ride. 1500 miles away, people are sheltering underground for days as their cities and hometowns are surrounded, with no means or way of escaping.

So today, let go of the little things and choose to be grateful.
Be grateful that all you see in the sky is clouds.
Be grateful that your house and yard is still standing.
Be grateful that your horse is stood eating hay or out grazing without threat.
Be grateful that you can still ride and enjoy your horses.
Be grateful that you, and your horses, are safe… and pray for those that aren’t.

Happy New Year to everyone! Our January issue is hot off the press and will be with subscribers within the next couple of days. It’s a little late this month as our printers are short-staffed - as a result of employees testing positive for Covid-19. The magazine is full of the usual columns plus an interesting article on star ratings. How important is your rating? Do you really need to reach for the stars?

Our latest issue is hot off the press! We love this cover - bright, colourful and positive - just right with summer coming and hopefully lots of bookings too! This little guy is happy enough but what about all the dogs that have been used to companionship all day over the last year and are now being left home alone with their family members going back to work and school? It will be strange too for some animals to go into boarding again. So we have several relevant features this month: separation anxiety (an article which we invite you to copy and distribute to clients); environmental enrichment; and helping dogs get over any negative experiences whilst boarding. Plus lots more and all the regular columns. OUT NOW!
