BETTY

This gorgeous girl came to us for a nail trim due to her owner being advised Betty would need a vet sedation in order to trim them.

Betty definitely did not need a vet sedation, she just needed patience, comfort & understanding.
She had our continued support throughout hence why we were very successful which her owner was extremely pleased about.
Betty even had a little coat deshed whilst on the table to build trust so the groom wasn’t ended on a negative experience involving her nail trim & so she would associate the whole experience as a positive instead.

Betty had a spring in her step walking back out as those curly nails were no longer digging in her paw pads & we bet she felt so much better which makes us very happy to help!

REGGIE

Gorgeous boy Reggie was kindly referred to us via another groomer who has regularly pampered him from a puppy.
Unfortunately Reggie has associated the sound of clippers with when he visited the vets for his castration & is now petrified of being groomed due to the clippers being used to be able to inject him for his operation.

We worked with Reggie outside the salon first to build trust whilst talking to his mum.
When we had Reggie on the table we took is slow & gentle to preclip his coat however he was very spooked by it so plenty of breaks were given with lots of reassuring cuddles on the floor.
We went short to keep the maintenance easy as this coat type will very easily Matt with all the fun adventures he goes on.

Reggie was a good boy for his bath & a gentle dryer was used to not overwhelm him with the loud dryer.
We attempted his nail trim & feet which was a huge trigger & at this point we started to lose his patience so we made the decision to call it a day so the trust we spent so long building wasn’t ruined!
With these jobs you have to know when to put sanity over vanity & stop the groom!

We gave him a few days break & had him back in to finish his big boofy head so he can look handsome for his birthday this week.
Due to being aware of his triggers from the clippers, we handled him carefully whilst unmuzzled & hand scissored his head/face so on this visit there is no association with the clipper noise whilst in the salon … of course he got lots of treats, positive rewards and more cuddles!!

Again Reggie was triggered when attempting to cut his tail, he started growling & instead of undoing such amazing work we called it a day with his tail being brushed but not trimmed.

Reggie is the sweetest boy, he does not want to hurt us or be aggressive & he absolutely is not an aggressive dog… he is just very scared which is going to take time & patience to work on.

His mum has done the most fantastic job with raising this lovely boy, he has been to obedience classes, he is well trained & you can see from the hard work she has put into him he has got the loveliest happiest temperament! 👏🏼

OZZIE

We are extremely proud of this great achievement with big handsome boy Ozzie!

Ozzie is a rescue, he was refused a groom in December within minutes of being in a salon due to his reactiveness so when his owner saw our post she made contact.
Ozzies temperament is gorgeous outside the groom environment, he’s a big loveable baby!

Ozzie had 3 years of compact coat which was skin tight matted, especially in problematic areas which would have been causing Ozzie great pain.
This was so dangerous for him as he wouldn’t have been able to regulate his own body temperature.

Ozzie absolutely hates being brushed, he has to be muzzled at all times otherwise this groom would be incredibly dangerous.
On the first groom with the temperament assessment you can see the damage he caused by lunging up on my arms…that’s just the power behind his nails!
Thick protective arm wear is also worn whilst handling Ozzie.

On the first bath & blow out a whole black sack was filled with his blown out coat however we hadn’t even scratched the surface of what was still to come out.

On the second & third grooms Jack handled Ozzie whilst Abbie brushed him for 3 hours per session & shaved off the problematic areas which were causing far too much stress to brush (chest, stomach, groin & legs).

On the fourth we bathed him again giving him a proper good scrub with shedding mud to loosen the remaining stubborn compacted areas.
His hair has blowing out lovely & his skin is now visible

Ozzies owner has done incredible to ensure his welfare was priority, she listened to our advice & booked him in exactly when recommended to get him feeling comfortable again without questioning the price.

This welfare groom has been a physically & mentally challenging job as it’s always so sad to handle & watch a dog who fights against everything you do then is exhausted.
We are however confident to say that between us both we do have the correct skills, knowledge & experience to do these jobs.

We are very proud to say we have massively improved Ozzies welfare & are happy to continue working with him now to build trust so he hopefully learns to not hate being brushed so much in the future.

BELLA

We’ve been working with Bella who is quite reactive to build her trust & we’re happy to say that progress is slowly being made.
Bella’s owner has been told a couple times now that the options are likely to have her put to sleep, no dog owner wants to hear this sad news which is why we’re willing to work with them.

Bella is reactive when a towel is put on her to dry her , quick movements & mainly when her face is touched.
For everyone’s safety a muzzle is worn at all times, however the muzzle needs to come off in order to groom her muzzle.

We have been working with Bella & her owner regarding her face being touched by highly rewarding her with play time straight after a very short & gentle muzzle brush.
This way she associates coming to the salon and her face being brushed with “yaaaay, I get to play with all my friends now!” As this is what works for her.

This has actually been working which is great, from the first time she came in needing a muzzle & heavy arm protection to now being able to put a comb through her muzzle it’s a very good improvement.
Bella is however still very reactive, she still attempted to warn me off when trimming her muzzle but this is the risk we take with grooming these dogs and why our services reflect our prices (which is still cheaper than a vet sedation).

Bella is a really sweet girl she’s just very scared!
Her groom is every 8 weeks, she gets shaved right down for easy maintenance to avoid matting & discomfort.
This is a pure welfare groom, we hope in time Bella will become more comfortable with being groomed and are happy to keep helping her & her owners!

OZZIE

You might be questioning … What exactly is a welfare groom?
We’re going to use Lovely boy Ozzie here as an example.

Ozzie is a really sweet boy outside the grooming environment however very sadly, he absolutely hates being groomed & has associated his face & legs being touched with a negative mindset so tries to attack from fear.

We have been working with Ozzie over the past few months in order to gain Ozzies trust.
He is starting to become aware that we are not going to hurt him & so slowly groom by groom with a lot of patience, care & professional skills / handling techniques we are able to complete a welfare groom without him reacting no where near as much as the first time.
Incredible progression is being achieved & we’re both very proud of Ozzie (and ourselves!).

We muzzle Ozzie to stay on the safe side whilst touching / shaving his trigger areas.
When we have good reason to believe Ozzie won’t be reactive the muzzle is removed for other parts of the groom.
(Some of our dogs will stay muzzled the entire groom due to safety!)

Ozzie is on an 8 week welfare groom pattern, this is to keep his coat short so it is unable to cause matting due to him not being able to be brushed thoroughly from being reactive.
This way he is comfortable, free of matting & can regulate his own body temperature which is healthy for their skin & overall wellbeing!

With these grooms the owner must understand that sometimes the faces arnt going to be perfect…however we do what we can keeping everyone involved safe as the last thing we want is our hands bitten, a dogs tongue or ear cut off etc.

These jobs involve an incredible amount of skill & knowledge on dogs behaviour which is why we have teamed up to provide this service.
If we feel the groom needs to be stopped for any reason whereby the dog is becoming overwhelmed & we could loose their focus / trust built or it is no longer safe to continue the owner must also understand & respect that call made from ourselves.

Ozzie has gone from trying to bite our fingers off getting a muzzle on him with a 4 hour groom, to quite a pleasant 2 hour groom without reacting anywhere near the amount he first did!

Hello All
Thank you for all your interest in business so far!

Just to make you aware that this service is for extreme cases whereby the dog is deemed ungroomable, unsafe & has been referred to vets for sedation or the dog has been banned from previous groomers.
If these are your circumstances then it sounds like it would be a job for us.

However,
We have had a lot of interest from people mentioning their dog is a bit nervous / doesn’t like their feet & paws being touched / not keen on being brushed etc …

In these cases it would be best for Abbie of Queen Canines Dog Grooming to assess your dogs temperament during a normal single person groom because it might be that they are a bit nervous like many of her own dogs on her books however groomable.
Dogs behaviour can be totally different inside & outside the groom environment so it would be best for her to see their temperament inside the groom setting to begin with.

If for any reason she believes the groom cannot be complete safely or is likely to cause trauma for them then the groom would be stopped immediately, you would be informed & advised that it would need to be an assisted groom for the handling with another very experienced groomer The Paw Seasons

If you believe you have an extreme case which isn’t safe for a single groom then we would both need to do an hour consultation to see the extent of reactiveness.
We would call out to yours for an hour to meet your dog, try to build trust in order to get the muzzle on safely with lots of positive reinforcement & discuss details in full.

Then we would attempt the groom.
We are predominantly salon based however we have dogs on our books which are very extreme case whereby we have to home groom them because it is incredibly unsafe in the salon due to how reactive they are.

Our aim is to work with these dogs, slowly, calmly & patiently to hopefully get them to a stage whereby they tolerate single grooming at a standard single person rate with Abbie which is safe for the groomer & dog.
Training along side jack to help with their temperament outside the salon environment is also recommended.

We would absolutely love to help your dogs.
Each dog is different & It may take between 1 - 10 sessions to make progress or even more however they are not being sedated or traumatised.
We are taking our time & building trust with them providing plenty of breaks which a lot of groomers & vets are unable to provide due to having to keep on time.

We hope this makes sense & you can understand the difference between what service is required.
If you have any questions or would feel it might be best to speak over the phone to go into more detail please make contact & we can discuss further.

Many thanks again
Abbie
