is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a

network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.

Jedi is a playful black poodle mix with a longer body that hints at a little dachshund in his DNA — but 100% heart and happiness. He loves everyone he meets, plays great with other dogs, and will do just about anything for a treat 🍖💫

Whether it’s zoomies in the yard, cuddle time on the couch, or making new furry friends, Jedi is all in. He’s the perfect mix of fun and affection — now all he needs is his forever home! 🏡

While the fireworks light up the sky, Pinto is quietly hoping someone will see his light. ✨At just 6 months old, this handsome, playful pup is as full of life as they come—even though he happens to be deaf.

Pinto doesn’t hear the booms or the cheers, but he feels everything. He feels love. He feels joy. He feels the excitement of a new toy, the warmth of a cuddle, and the energy of a good zoomie session with foster friends. 🐾💙

This Independence Day, Dominic is hoping for hid own reason for celebration - a forever family. ❤️

This spunky, sweet young pup was rescued from a neglectful situation that sadly cost him a back foot. But don’t let that fool you—Dominic doesn’t miss a beat! He runs, plays, and lives life like any other pup. His mom is a terrier mix, his dad a poodle mix, and Dominic got the best of both—except he’s still waiting for the best part: a home.

All his littermates have been adopted, but Dominic has been overlooked for months - maybe because people notice what’s missing before they see what’s there: joy, resilience, love, and a whole lot of tail wags. 🐾💙

Double the Frenchie fun! 🎉 Sofia the French bulldog has been officially adopted — and by none other than the amazing family who adopted former castaway Lulu the Frenchie! 💕

Changing the world one dog at a time since 2003!

In 2003, we weren't sure if one person could make a difference but we knew that we wanted to see change. So we founded Canine Castaways with the motto "Saving one dog won't change the world but it will change the world for that dog". When we rescued a tiny, sick chihuahua puppy who we named Uno our world changed.

Since then we have rescued over 2300 dogs. We know that there is a home out there for every dog we rescue and will wait patiently until it is found. We try very hard to place dogs in their "forever home"; however, there are times that things don't work out. When we rescue a dog, we are committed to that dog for its entire life and will never hesitate to accept one of our castaways back into our care. Our focus is on quality of care rather than the number of dogs saved. We are very proud to work closely with our team of veterinarians to ensure each dog rescued receives the best medical care possible. If it's needed, it's done! Of course, this does lead to the challenge of constant fundraising but at 16 years old, Uno still reminds us that the extra work is worth it to change the world one dog at a time.
