Meet Little Miss Myrtle!
Myrtle is a petite 3–4-year-old Doberman with a big heart and a gentle soul. At about 52 pounds, she's on the smaller side for the breed — perfect for someone who wants all the Dobe love in a more compact package. She spent at least six months surviving on her own in the south suburbs before rescue, so it's no surprise she came in underweight and uncertain. With good food, safety, and care, she's steadily blossoming into the beautiful girl she was meant to be.
Myrtle is housebroken, doesn't jump, and doesn't get up on the furniture. Instead, she prefers leaning in slowly for affection — the sweetest version of the classic Dober-lean. She's extremely gentle, smart, and affectionate once she feels safe, though she can be shy with new people, especially larger men. In fact, she'd do best in a quieter home where she can continue building her confidence at her own pace.
She loves kids and enjoys being out and about in social settings — she was even a perfect lady on a trip for ice cream in Yorkville by the river. Around other dogs, Myrtle does well, though she can be a little protective when they come too close to her crate. She also has a funny little habit of hoarding stuffed animals in her safe space. With cats, she's more "tolerant" than playful, preferring to quietly coexist.
Myrtle has tested positive for Von Willebrand's Disease, a common clotting disorder in Dobermans. It doesn't affect her daily life or require medication — it just means her adopter should take a little extra precaution if she ever needs surgery.
If you're looking for a smaller Dobe who's sweet, gentle, and ready to leave her rough days behind, Myrtle could be the perfect match. She's searching for a patient, loving home that will let her lean in — slowly but surely — to the good life she deserves.
