🐇Why adopt from a rescue when you can get them cheaper from a pet shop or breeder with no questions asked?🐇

💛Firstly, it is cheaper to adopt from a rescue as your new rabbit will already be desexed and vaccinated, the adoption fee is just to cover these costs. Any health issues will also have been treated by the rescue.

💛You will receive constant advice and support from the rescue on how to care for your rabbit. If you adopt a pair you will not have the stress of bonding rabbits, if you adopt a friend to bond with your current rabbit you can have trial periods to see if they will be a match.

💛Adopting from a rescue is using your money to support something good. You are not supporting a business who quite often put profits above the welfare of their rabbits adding to the rabbit welfare crisis that already exists in WA.

💛Your money goes towards helping the next rabbit in need and most importantly, you are opening up a space for another rabbit to be taken in by the rescue whose life depends on it.

We are currently at capacity, please consider adopting from a rescue so that we can provide a safe space for so many rabbits that we are contacted about on a daily basis.💔

As we approach the holiday season, we feel it’s important to remind everyone (AGAIN) that bunnies and guinea pigs are not Christmas gifts.

They are an 8-12 year commitment.

They p**p 200-300 times a day.

A cage or hutch is too small for them. They need room and stimulation to be happy and healthy.

If not desexed bunnies can develop lethal cancers and/or behavioural problems (one of the reasons so many are surrendered).

Rabbits and piggies are prey animals so are not usually cuddly.

They’re considered exotic animals due to the specialist veterinary care they need and can be a very costly pet.

Please- Guinea pigs and rabbits should NOT be purchased on a whim from breeders, gumtree or pet stores.

🖤❤️ Please share because so many bunnies are being lost to this awful disease. 😢
Is your bunny up to date with their vaccination?❤️🖤
🦠 Calicivirus is currently active in the metro area.🦠

🐰 With a change of season comes an increased risk of the transmission of calicivirus. Councils across Perth and regional areas have released this terrible virus too. Calicivirus is deadly and the best protection you can give your bunny is annual vaccination, here are some other ways to help protect your pets.

🪣 Clean gutters, inspect ponds and water tanks, empty containers and pots collecting water around the home- stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
🌿 Plant insect repelling plants around the home- Basil, lavendar, rosemary, citronella and lemon balm are all good choices.
🚪 Keep some F10 veterinary disinfectant by the door to spray with when you’ve been somewhere wild rabbits live (any bushland, including coastal).
👟 Take your shoes off outside, or spray with F10.
🪟 Replace damaged flyscreens or repair small holes- sticky patches are inexpensive and available from Bunnings.
🐇 House rabbits indoors preferably, if your rabbits must be outside their enclosure should be insect-proof.
🐰 New rabbits coming into the home must be quarantined for at least 10-14 days.

🐰 Please, please vaccinate your bunny and protect them as much as you can.
If you think your bunny has died of calicivirus, or their death was sudden, please get a vet to take a liver sample and send it to be tested. Your bunny must then be cremated to stop the spread into soil as calicivirus can remain in the environment for a long time.
