Next trip planned for January 2025.
Thoughts and prayers for all my Florida clients and the great linemen/linewomen plus volunteers to get everyone back to as much normalcy as possible and find loved ones who are lost. Some clients have severe damages.
I have chosen to delay my Florida trip until January so people can recover and get through the holidays.
Also, my family is working on getting to North Carolina or Florida because they need extra veterinarians and volunteers to help with the search and rescue recovery.
Pray for the logistics to fall in place so we can help those in need.

Ever wondered how our anatomy compares to a horse’s? 🧐 Check out this colorful schematic of a human foot and a horse’s hind limb! Did you know that our heel is actually the equivalent of the point of the hock in a horse? 🦶➡️🐴

Florida friends if you need to evacuate, I have a fantastic family near Decatur Alabama that has a pasture available for horses. No barn but a safe pasture.

So true
🐴 DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS: To maintain your balance ... 🐴
Imagine that your upper body is like a broomstick and your horse is a hand trying to balance it. If your body (the broomstick) starts to tip, your hand (horse) will automatically move underneath to keep it up. You cannot lean right and expect your horse to go left.

I feel this quite often where the nucal ligament “pops” out of place. Now I am very curious for the head shy horses if this is the reason and I will have to check the next time I see them
EDIT: Please see additional information from Dr. Haussler in the comment section, in answer to your questions.
Every now and then, a Member of this community will ask Dr. Haussler a question - we like to share his answers with all of you.
"The funicular portion of the nuchal ligament passes over the C2 spinous process and is normally anchored by loose connective tissue to the bone below. As the horse’s head flexes and extends, that portion of the ligament must lengthen and shorten. It will normally stay in place along the midline (no “flipping” back and forth), also because there is a slight concavity on the top of the C2 spinous process.
However, with repetitive use, that soft tissue connection can break down. With atlantooccipital flexion, the nuchal ligament is stretched. With added lateral bending, that portion of the ligament is less anchored down and can displace off the spinous process and “pop” to one side or the other.
As with any displaced ligament or tendon, less tension and increased stabilization is required to help keep the structure in place. Otherwise, it displaces more often, and due to repeated local trauma, a bursa forms and fills with fluid, resulting in bursitis."

Learned some new tonight about cranial nerve 11 and saddle fit and how our horse moves. When it’s pinched the horse changes its movement and breathing plus much more. Thanks to Stall High for planting the seed and this article on Schleese’s website to explain it in writing.
Cranial Nerve 11 (CN11) While this may seem like a rather dry conclusion to the little series on “Horses Behaving Poorly” it actually explains a lot. Over 50 million years of equine evolution have seen the stallion biting its opponents in the wither area to determine dominance and literally brin...
So excited for these colleagues to be learning animal chiropractic!

Ever heard of “tapping” (endotapping) with your horse???
I was exposed to this wonder technique over this past summer/fall with my Stall High classes and coaches. I have more to learn but this website gives a good explanation of how it helps our horses and us unwind trauma, anxiety and become more balanced in our body movements.
Charlotte Cannon’s Equine Tapping is an effective way to relax your horse, rewire your horse’s response to stress, release physical and mental/emotional braces or blocks so that your horse can achieve maximum balance and maximum athletic ability.

Florida Horse clients.
Great news I’m recovering well and the doctor has released me to come to work in February. Work dates are looking like the week of the 19th through the 23rd. I may do some on the weekend before depending on my arrival time, if I’m driving or flying.
Jennifer will be reaching out to reschedule our appointment

At the orthopedic specialist about my calf tear. My appointment got moved back due to our freezing weather and icey roads here in Texas.
Florida peeps, Jennifer and I will be in contact about the makeup trip when I know more.
I feel “normal” as long as I’m on my pain meds and muscle relaxers but definitely don’t want to do something crazy and then require surgery.

URGENT Jan 8,2024
I’m sick to say but I got hurt yesterday I’m going to be ok.
Florida appointments for this upcoming trip on Jan 12-18 are CANCELLED. Jennifer is messaging to reschedule.
I had an oops yesterday while getting ready to ride my horse and I lost my balance which resulted in a partial tear of my right calf muscle and cannot fully walk.
I have a bigger story on how it lead to this but I can share when I see y’all soon. Hopefully at the end of January/Early February if the specialist lets me go.
I may also have to split my trip into 2 parts spread out by a few days.
Edit to add: Now for the rest of the story:
After Christmas we were playing on the baseball field with my brother's kids running the bases. so a couple of days later I was a little sore and had a muscle cramp so I thought. And then I stepped funny last week going down some stairs and I felt a little more zing. But yesterday, I was getting my saddle out of my horse trailer and stepped backwards on the ramp that was alittle too steep because I parked slightly off our normal spot and that's when I felt the tear/Pop feel happen.

Our Story
ME & My Desire for Alternative Therapies
Hello everyone, I am Dr. Lillie DeSimone (Dr. Lillie). I grew up on a small farm in North Alabama with an assortment of furry creatures. Growing up on this farm fostered my love of animals and riding horses. While not currently residing on a farm, I do have two horses and use any free time I have to compete in barrel races and team roping events.
My desire to provide chiropractic care to animals started after I had a riding injury in 2003 while at a Goat Tying clinic (I couldn’t run fast enough when I jumped off my horse and fell suffering a head injury). This injury introduced me to the world of chiropractic care through my human chiropractor. Following the injury, normal therapies could not control my pain. Originally, I thought chiropractic was voodoo and was very hesitant to try it, but decided to try it as a “last resort”. To my surprise the chiropractor was amazing and after a few adjustments the pain was gone and felt better than I did before the accident. I decided at that moment that I wanted to offer that same type of relief, hope and quality of life to my patients. So after Veterinary School I pursued Chiropractic training and received my certification. Throughout my career I have practiced in West Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. I am currently hold license in Alabama and Florida.
How I became certified in animal chiropractic
To become certified in animal chiropractic you must first be either a veterinarian or a human chiropractor. Second you must attend an animal chiropractor training course. Some select states require you to have an extra certification through a national association such as AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association) or IVCA (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association). My dream has always been to be a veterinarian since very young in life, so that is what I did! I earned my bachelor’s degree in Pre-Vet in 2006, Master’s degree in Meat Science in 2008 and then my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 from Auburn University. In 2016 I finalized my certification in veterinary acupuncture through Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in Reddick, Florida. In August 2017, I received my Certification in Animal Chiropractic from Parker University; then in September 2017 I passed the “horrid” exams to become AVCA Certified. This proved to be the second hardest exam of my life next to my national veterinary boards.
Birth of Equine Realign PLLC
The “birth” of Equine Realign PLLC began in the summer of 2017 while at Parker University in Dallas, Texas. My plan was to perform equine chiropractic on my “off” days from the small animal clinic. After a short brainstorming session, I came up with the name and wanted to snag while it was still available. Once the name was secured and the plan was put into action I began seeing my first clients. Equine Realign PLLC has been an amazing experience and continues to build one day at a time. We offer equine chiropractic and acupuncture services to Brevard and surrounding counties in Central Florida.
What makes a certified person different from others?
Training, state laws/regulations and accountability. Many are not aware that to perform chiropractic adjustments on animals other than your own personal animal you must meet at least one of two criteria; One-be a licensed veterinarian, preferably animal chiropractic certified. Or two-be a licensed doctor of chiropractor that is certified in animal chiropractic with a referral from a veterinarian. If someone does not meet either of these criteria, that person is consider, by law, to be illegally practicing veterinary medicine without a license. Chiropractic certified veterinarians and human chiropractors have spent numerous years of furthering their education, experience and expertise to provide these services to our pets. Additionally, licensed professionals also carry insurance and ways to help your pet medically if there are any unintentional issues or events that are a result of the therapy. Lastly, veterinarians and chiropractors must participate in continuing education courses to maintain their respective certification and licenses and submit documentation to the state for accountability.
As alternative therapies become more accepted as a standard of care for medical treatments the laws governing them will continue to evolve as well. No matter who or what services you use it is critical that YOU know what your state laws are regarding chiropractic services. Make sure you know what training and certifications your chiropractor has and what would happen if your animal was hurt unintentionally.
The end goal should always be for the owner and veterinarian/chiropractor to SAFELY provide the highest level of quality care to every animal!
