Due to a mild winter and recent rains, the Ontario bear reporting hotline is now active in anticipation of black bears emerging early from hibernation. MNRF and the Ontario Provincial Police are asking people to exercise caution as there is little natural food for bears at this time of year, which will lead them to search for other food sources such as garbage and bird feed. They suggest keeping garbage indoors until pick up day, removing bird feeders, cleaning your BBQ after each use and keeping pets on leash.

If you encounter a bear that poses an immediate threat to your safety, call 9-1-1. For other bear sightings, use the toll-free Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327 or TTY 705-945-7641.
