Nanna is 91 next week. She has loved dogs all her life. Dogs know that she loves them and are attracted to her like magnets. This heatwave weekend, we were babysitting nanna and seven of the family dogs. It was a crowded house, but a happy one. If it wasn’t one it was the other either laying with, or on nanna all the while being mindful and considerate of her. Dusty the little kelpie pup and Spot the JR, took particular advantage of having nanna in the house as you can see by these photos. Nanna had a fall on Friday, and every dog in the house, knew exactly where she had hurt herself. They all made sure to check her over on arrival, and without fail they all focused their attention on her sore leg over the weekend.
Nanna has had multiple dogs all her life, big ones, (roo dogs, staghounds, greyhounds and a Great Dane cross once), medium dogs, (red kelpies, blue healers, border collies and her all time favourite Missy the part collie), and many little dogs, (mostly Jack Russell x’s, Fox terrier x Australian terrier x’s, a blind old Maltese x, a fat little corgi cross and even a black pekenese called Sooty, when she was first married back in 1960). If anything makes nanna smile big and have a proper laugh it’s the dogs.
She is too old now to have a dog of her own sadly. She falls too easily. However if anyone should have a little dog mate it ‘s her. It’s lucky that we have a heap, 12 dogs in total, in the entire family, there’s always a head resting her lap, a belly to be rubbed, a little mate sitting on your lap or right beside her, or a little red kelpie sliding up on to the bed for a cuddle before you even get your hair done!
Gotta love dogs! They make the world go round.
