if I started offering in-person dog training classes, what kinds of classes would you be interested in? (any not listed?)

my goal would be to offer classes for things that are not typically offered as in-person classes to make training more accessible.

likewise, offer classes structured in ways I haven’t seen done before for more effective and seamless learning. Who might be interested in any of the following?

Possibilities:
-human directed resource guarding (not seen before)
-dog to dog reactivity (done differently)
-puppy class (focus on prevention)
-crating/containment (not seen before)
-leash walking (actually effective loose leash without the perfect heel requirement)
-dog to dog interhousehold conflict (not seen before)
-public ettique, prepare nonreactive/aggressive dogs for public spaces (done differently)
-(later offering after my dogs finish their RACHs) rally sign instruction (breaking down each sign in rally sign by sign and teaching from the group up for each level (not your typical rally class, useful for all dogs, not just dogs with rally trial goals)

introducing, finally, Enzo. when i was asked to help a year and a half ago, i got him on a transport that week knowing his options were otherwise slim. the plan was to rehome, but over the course of his time here and seeing all that a home he would need would require, it became clear that the few applications he received unfortunately were not matches. through some mild medical issues and all his behavior modification, training, sports, and day to day life as also a pet, he bonded incredibly deeply, i think more than i or his former owner anticipated. over the past few months, it became clear that his place is here, but not before careful consideration as to how i would give, now, 7 dogs across 3 rotations lives worth living vs 6 dogs across 2 rotations. preserving a bond with a dog that is powerful mentally and physically, more than happy to play your games, but also willfull, and emotionally responsive has been one of the most rewarding but humbling experiences and we’ve just begun. he’ll continue his dock career and, although hes already 5, begin pursuing PSA, and settle into rally or scentwork in his far future senior years. continued life goals are maintaining healthy emotions towards humans and dogs, social behaviors with people, desensitizing thunder and fireworks, affiliative behaviors to other dogs (maybe), and fair training approaches. thank you to all that have played a part along the way from staff and boarding to helpers with his people behaviors, from training and behavior considerations to welcoming him at venues.

splashtown kickoff 🌊 girl jumped her average, but didn’t fall back into junior as she did in both previous trials so that’s great. event best was 17’3, just 3inches shy of her personal best. I’m considering putting her on a raw diet from kibble to see if that works better for her athletic development. she could be as old as 7.5yrs, though her shelter estimate puts her at 5.5yrs. I’ll be inquiring with our dock trainer about changes to her jump routine that can help her gain 2 more feet consistently to be competitive in senior. | enzo continues to jump around or better his personal best from last year. his event best was 20’0, 6 inches further than his personal best last year and the 4th time he’s hit in the 20’s (all this season). both dogs are close to advanced titles and enzo needs just one jump in the 20s for his novice masters title. hoping for some fine tuning to get him hitting the 20s regularly and possibly even becoming competitive in masters. | good mali dogs all around.

he’s going to regionals ✨in a team there’s i, him, and us. while it’s possible for one or two of these elements to heftily make up for lacking, the undeniably most certain way to shoot for your goals is to try your best in all three elements. i: reflecting on footage, consulting experts, practicing handling, considering best “ringside” practices and behaviors, feed best you can to the dog’s needs. we: strategically teaching “ringside” strategy and behavior, condition dog properly (no cheap s**t - food bowl conditioning, sprint only on slatmill, weekend warriors), meet emotional mental and physical needs consistently (emotional being the most important 😱). him: a product of the aforementioned. it sounds like a lot. but it’s not when you put yourself into your canine partner’s POV. build your path to your goal around the dog, rather than build the dog around your goal. you’ve got this.

CLIENT NOTICE: I’m trying a new thing in the system that you likely won’t even notice but if you do - if you receive a notice or see in an appointment that your dog was “checked in” or “completed” it just means that I have generated your invoice at the end of your dog’s boarding stay. ensuring I don’t miss a stay to invoice has always been a challenge as the system doesn’t give me easy ways to do this, but using the “completed” function will change the appointment to green in the calendar and signify to me that your invoice has been generated. as mentioned, there’s nothing y’all need to do differently and if an appointment turns green at the end of a stay, this is normal now. thank you for your continued support ☀️

⚠️Drop off and Pick up Policy Update⚠️
If you need to turn around on my street either in arriving or departing, please do not use any neighbors’ driveways. Neighbors include homes with little children, dogs, the elderly, and adults in assistance group homes. In being a dog care provider in a neighborhood and setting a precedent, I go the extra mile to set an example that a dog care business can exist harmoniously in a residential environment. With that in mind, we do not want to impose any impact that neighbors would not face if we were not here. This includes turning around in their driveways. If you need to turn around, that is best done in my driveway if available, going to the end at Mason St where there is a wide area at the end of the T to carefully turn around after observing the stop sign, or crossing Woodside Ave after observing the stop sign and turning around in the second left which is the back entrance of a parking lot (please do not use the firehouse lot as that is emergency services). Please also note that the residential streets around Beyond are connected to all surrounding main roads and you should be able to exit my development towards your destination without turning around and without adding time to your travels. If you have questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support and adherence to this important policy update.

how do you do boarding built for dogs even better? without sacrificing our ethics of not placing dogs together unless they thrive together, our new outdoor kennel patios offer dogs more time outdoors and may even provide low impact, constructive socialization opportunities.

After Adoption | if you’ve adopted a dog please read.

I’d like to start a series: “after adoption”
but I need your stories to do so.
| the dog and adopters experience after adoption |

most shelters, rescues, fosters, and volunteers don’t truly know what happens with a dog after it is adopted. the struggles, costs, and consequences of incomplete evaluations, lying about or misrepresenting a dog, or
simply the outcome of adopting a dog that is unpredictable in health and behavior. If you have adopted and have a story like this you’d like shared to educate, please DM me or comment for other ways to submit your story.

it is time to highlight the efforts of those swept under the rug by rescue so that people can truly make the adopter shop responsibly decision with eyes wide open.

CLIENTS: IMPORTANT INFECTIOUS DISEASE NOTICE
Over the past few weeks there has been increasing news of a “new” dog illness going around in the daycare/boarding industry. It is being identified as “strep zoo” Our state has recently seen the spread of it. Please observe the following precautions.
1. If attending group training classes or visiting a groomer or vet, maintain distance from other dogs and remain posted by the school, salon, and vet on possible exposures while at their locations.
2. If your dog has interacted or will interact with other dogs at family gatherings or play dates, remain posted by the other dogs’ owners on possible exposures.
3. Please avoid bringing your dog to dog parks (even if it’s empty), heavy traffic pet stores, other daycare/boarding facilities, and “pack walker” or multi-dog walking services in the 3 weeks leading up to your dog’s Beyond booking (this is ongoing for daycare dogs).

At Beyond, we have not seen signs of illness, but are being proactive to hopefully avoid seeing this illness here and continuing to be able to provide for clients’ needs.
•How can I protect my dog? Limiting your dog’s access to other dogs and where other dogs frequent until this concern recedes can reduce risk of contraction. Speak to your vet about vaccination options should any exist if interested.
•What are the symptoms of this illness? Coughing, running nose, sneezing, eye or nose discharge, abnormally tired, and do not test positive for the common causes of respiratory illness.
•What do I do if my dog or dogs my dog has been around seem to have this illness? Contact your veterinarian. Please do not bring your dog for daycare or boarding until your dog receives a clean bill of health from your vet.

It is imperative that we all remain diligent in communicating and limiting possible exposures so that boarding can remain open for you and others this holiday season. Note: dogs showing signs of contagious illness at any time at Beyond will need to be picked up immediately. Please ensure your emergency contact has been updated to include someone that will be available during your upcoming travels. Thank you for your continued partnership in maintaining the health and safety of all Beyond guests.
Thank you, Beyond the Walk

new jersey, small businesses need your support. sign today. please share.
As you may know, I am passionate about zoning issues affecting small businesses as I personally was affected by outdated, overly constrictive zoning laws for years to the tune of over $10,000. I am not alone. I may have won against town hall, but most small businesses do not, or cannot.

to sign or share, click here: https://www.change.org/p/support-small-businesses-a1021-home-business-jobs-creation-act?recruiter=1126628731&recruited_by_id=78075e60-bb2e-11ea-9c9b-dd1f1f788e8b&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard&utm_medium=copylink

With this petition, Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake and the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee Members, we implore you to bring forward A1021 Home Business Jobs Creation Act for committee review and move this bill forward so small business owners can be empowered to pursue their dreams of worth without paralyzing financial and ordinance barriers.

Many small business owners find themselves in similar positions, simply trying to offer a quality service and make a living just to find themselves facing antiquated ordinances and needing to navigate a legislative obstacle that most people aren't even aware exists. While I had the ability to pursue fighting town hall and paying the exorbitant associated escrow and attorney costs over the years this persisted, many aspiring and existing small business owners cannot. Whole communities suffer when enthusiastic, talented people are halted from offering new and unique services due to the zoning and financial barriers that kill dreams. Most small businesses begin in one's home and many types of non-intrusive small businesses are well suited to be carried out at one's home; avoiding the small business owner unnecessary overhead costs and providing the means for further development of their business's services. Further, when small businesses after not afforded an avenue to enter the market, they do not have the opportunity to start, let alone grow, and potentially boost the economy of a municipality. When small businesses are stunted, everyone loses.

A1021 is a proposed State Bill that is stuck sitting in committee with the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee, chairwoman Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake. This petition is to covey support of this bill by New Jersey residents so that their friends, family, neighbors, and themselves may be free to endeavor on pursuits of service and business that have the potential to change lives. (bill can be viewed in full in the petition)

Not focused on any one small business industry, A1021 would offer home-based small businesses municipal review that is more accessible by determining that home-businesses are accessory uses as opposed to a use requiring a zoning variance; a change in review process that brings the typical cost from tens of thousands down to possibly a few hundred dollars, if any cost. The bill also outlines contingencies to carefully balance the interests of small businesses with the needs of residential neighborhoods so that safety and ambiance appeal are not affected.

The New Jersey state motto is "Liberty and Prosperity" which means little when laws that suppress the pursuit of happiness are permitted to exist. By signing, you voice that you do not want to see small businesses unfairly held to zoning procedures that are disproportionately burdensome and that you want the New Jersey legislature to tangibly put their support behind the individuals that dare to dream.

Thank you for your interest in this matter that affects so many small businesses across the country. This petition is to lawmakers in New Jersey. If you do not reside in New Jersey, I humbly request that you abstain from signing this petition and instead help this movement by sharing with New Jersey residents you may know. Thank you.

JUST GET THE EASY DOG | and that usually means a well bred, pure bred, from stable and proven lines heavily selected for temperament.
i cannot undo your dog’s genetics after you get the dog.
this is mostly for people that end up with human aggressive dogs from rescues or not great breeders. there is only so much we can change with training. we are here to help before you select a dog that will set you up for heartbreak.

Tons of these folks, from people who think a Pit Bull is a blanket term to professional dog walkers a like. The American Pit Bull Terrier is not for everyone. ✌️

Borrow a Therapy Dog! (approval required)
Are you interested in doing pet therapy but don’t have an eligible or ready dog?
You can take Kane or Girl, my certified therapy dogs, to sanctioned CCPT visits!
All you have to do is
•register with the organization (fee does apply, but is tax deductible)
•take either dog through the test (that they have passed several times; tests available monthly and criteria fully available prior; I will walk you through it with the dog for free so you’re ready)
•provide your own transportation for the dog of your choice to/from my house and the therapy sessions you select

Kane and Girl are also available for borrowing for schools, etc. if you work at one and would like a pup available during the school day. For this arrangement, you would not need to test, but your school, etc. would need to approve the dog. For this arrangement since it is not CCPT sanctioned, your school, etc. would need to have their own liability insurance coverage if desired as the dog’s work would not be under CCPT.

Both of these dogs have amazing skill as therapy dogs and I cannot bring them to therapy visits as often as I’d like so I hope this can offer someone else an opportunity as well as provide more therapy to people than I can provide myself.
Girl: Due to energy level, she is best at high school to adult visits or business visits.
Kane: Good at any visit type including small children and the elderly. Prefer visits with no other dogs present if possible due to handler being new.

Comment or DM if interested.
