''Got bumped from my plane, rebooked for 545am, but I bumped into Gutta, a nice lady who needed help finding the train, she had no ticket so I bought her one and now we’re sharing a ride so I can get her on the next train. She said I was an angel. Sometimes when you miss your mom another mom steps in out of the blue.''

"Calvin? Calvin, sweetheart?"
In the darkness Calvin heard the sound of Susie, his wife of fifty-three years. Calvin struggled to open his eyes. God, he was so tired and it took so much strength. Slowly, light replaced the darkness, and soon vision followed. At the foot of his bed stood his wife. Calvin wet his dry lips and spoke hoarsely, "Did... did you.... find him?"
"Yes dear," Susie said smiling sadly, "He was in the attic."
Susie reached into her big purse and brought out a soft, old, orange tiger doll. Calvin could not help but laugh. It had been so long. Too long.
"I washed him for you," Susie said, her voice cracking a little as she laid the stuffed tiger next to her husband.
"Thank you, Susie." Calvin said.
A few moments passed as Calvin just laid on his hospital bed, his head turned to the side, staring at the old toy with nostalgia.
"Dear," Calvin said finally. "Would you mind leaving me alone with Hobbes for a while? I would like to catch up with him."
"All right," Susie said. "I'll get something to eat in the cafeteria. I'll be back soon."
Susie kissed her huband on the forehead and turned to leave. With sudden but gentle strength Calvin stopped her. Lovingly he pulled his wife in and gave her a passionate kiss on the lips. "I love you," he said.
"And I love you," said Susie.
Susie turned and left. Calvin saw tears streaming from her face as she went out the door.
Calvin then turned to face his oldest and dearest friend. "Hello Hobbes. It's been a long time hasn't it old pal?"
Hobbes was no longer a stuffed doll but the big furry old tiger Calvin had always remembered. "It sure has, Calvin." said Hobbes.
"You... haven't changed a bit." Calvin smiled.
"You've changed a lot." Hobbes said sadly.
Calvin laughed, "Really? I haven't noticed at all."
There was a long pause. The sound of a clock ticking away the seconds rang throughout the sterile hospital room.
"So... you married Susie Derkins." Hobbes said, finally smiling. "I knew you always like her."
"Shut up!" Calvin said, his smile bigger than ever.
"Tell me everything I missed. I'd love to hear what you've been up to!" Hobbes said, excited.
And so Calvin told him everything. He told him about how he and Susie fell in love in high school and had married after graduating from college, about his three kids and four grandkids, how he turned Spaceman Spiff into one of the most popular sci-fi novels of the decade, and so on. After he told Hobbes all this there was another pregnant pause.
"You know... I visited you in the attic a bunch of times." Calvin said.
"I know."
"But I couldn't see you. All I saw was a stuffed animal." Calvin voice was breaking and tears of regret started welling up in his eyes.
"You grew up old buddy." said Hobbes.
Calvin broke down and sobbed, hugging his best friend. "I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry I broke my promise! I promised I wouldn't grow up and that we'd be together forever!!"
Hobbes stroke the Calvin's hair, or what little was left of it. "But you didn't."
"What do you mean?"
"We were always together... in our dreams."
"We were?"
"We were."
"Hobbes?"
"Yeah, old buddy?"
"I'm so glad I got to see you like this... one last time..."
"Me too, Calvin. Me too."
"Sweetheart?" Susie voice came from outside the door.
"Yes dear?" Calvin replied.
"Can I come in?" Susie asked.
"Just a minute."
Calvin turned to face Hobbes one last time. "Goodbye Hobbes. Thanks... for everything..."
"No, thank you Calvin." Hobbes said.
Calvin turned back to the door and said, "You can come in now."
Susie came in and said, "Look who's come to visit you."
Calvin's children and grandchildren followed Susie into Calvin's room. The youngest grandchild ran past the rest of them and hugged Calvin in a hard, excited hug. "Grandpa!!" screamed the child in delight.
"Francis!" cried Calvin's daughter, "Be gentle with your grandfather."
Calvin's daughter turned to her dad. "I'm sorry, Daddy. Francis never seems to behave these days. He just runs around making a mess and coming up with strange stories."
Calvin laughed and said, "Well now! That sound just like me when I was his age."
Calvin and his family chatted some more until a nurse said, "Sorry, but visiting hours are almost up."
Calvin's beloved family said good bye and promised to visit tommorrow. As they turned to leave Calvin said, "Francis. Come here for a second."
Francis came over to his grandfather's side, "What is it Gramps?"
Calvin reached over to the stuffed tiger on his bedside and and held him out shakily to his grandson, who looked exactly as he did so many years ago. "This is Hobbes. He was my best friend when I was your age. I want you to have him."
"He's just a stuffed tiger." Francis said, eyebrows raised.
Calvin laughed, "Well, let me tell you a secret."
Francis leaned closer to Clavin. Calvin whispered, "If you catch him in a tiger trap using a tuna sandwich as bait he will turn into a real tiger."
Francis gasped in delighted awe. Calvin continued, "Not only that he will be your best friend forever."
"Wow! Thanks grandpa!" Francis said, hugging his grandpa tightly again.
"Francis! We need to go now!" Calvin's daughter called.
"Okay!" Francis shouted back.
"Take good care of him." Calvin said.
"I will." Francis said before running off after the rest of the family.
Calvin laid on his back and stared at the ceiling. The time to go was close. He could feel it in his soul. Calvin tried to remembr a quot he read in a book once. It said something about death being the next great adventure or something like that. He eyelids grew heavy and his breathing slowed. As he went deeper into his final sleep he heard Hobbes, as if he was right next to him at his bedside. "I'll take care of him, Calvin..."
Calvin took his first step toward one more adventure and breathed his last with a grin on his face.

I was working my off duty job yesterday evening when I saw this little boy helping his mother carry out their groceries and he kept looking at me. So I went over and started talking to him and I asked him if he like superheroes and he said yes. I told him that I have something to show you then, so him and his mom followed me out to my police car in the parking lot. I asked him who his favorite superhero was and he said Batman. I asked him, would you believe me if I told you I was Batman and he said no. So I showed him my Batman mask along with my Batarang that I carry in my police car. He started asking me about the other superheroes stuff in my car.
So I explained to him that in the movies they act like all the superheros are their own person but in real life it's just one person, me. He was still a little unsure if I was being for real so I did my Batman voice. I gave him a junior police officer sticker and I let him sit in my police car and turn on the lights and his mom took a picture of us together. Him and his mom then left. I went back inside the store and about 15 minutes later he walks up to me and he gives me this Sonic Vanilla shake. His mom tells me that he would not allow her to go home until he got me a shake and brought it to me. This was the first time in my 17 years of being a police officer that a kid did this for me. I was really touched that he was so thoughtfull to do that for me. I am so happy that I made this little boy smile and left a positive impression on him.
Awesome Job, the Both of you ❤🫡

In one of the most heartwarming moments in sports history, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon University stepped up to the plate with two runners on base, a strike against her, and a dream in her heart. What happened next was something she had never done in her entire high school or college career—she smashed her first-ever home run over the center field fence!

But the joy quickly turned into disaster. In the excitement, Sara missed first base, and as she turned to correct her mistake, she collapsed, writhing in pain from a knee injury. Crawling back to first base, she was unable to continue. Her team couldn’t assist her without disqualifying the home run, and a pinch-runner would mean it would only count as a single.

Then, something extraordinary happened.

In a remarkable display of sportsmanship, Mallory Holtman, the star first baseman of Central Washington University and her teammate Liz Wallace decided to do the unthinkable. They carried their injured opponent around the bases, ensuring her home run would count. These two players, whose team was competing in a crucial playoff game, sacrificed their own playoff hopes to make sure Sara’s moment of triumph wasn’t lost.

With Sara resting her arms on their shoulders and her teammates watching in awe, Holtman and Wallace guided her carefully around the diamond, stopping at each base so Sara could gently touch it with her good leg.

"It was the right thing to do," Holtman said, reflecting on her selfless act. "She hit it over the fence. She deserved the home run."
This moment wasn’t just a display of athletic skill—it was about compassion, integrity, and the true spirit of sportsmanship. Central Washington, the very team that helped Sara, was eliminated from the playoffs by the three-run homer, but Holtman and Wallace’s act of kindness resonated far beyond the field.

Tucholsky, whose season ended with a likely torn ACL, recalled, "The only thing I remember is Mallory asking which leg was injured. I said my right, and she said, 'Okay, we’ll drop you gently, and you’ll touch each base with your left.'"

As they reached home plate, both teams were in tears. Coach Gary Frederick of Central Washington, with over 14 years of coaching experience, said it was "unbelievable," while Western Oregon coach Pam Knox called it a moment of true character.

Sara’s home run sealed Western Oregon's 4-2 victory, but the day wasn’t defined by winning or losing—it was about humanity and the bonds we share through competition.

This legendary act of sportsmanship reminds us all that sometimes the greatest victories happen off the scoreboard.

Y'all I have to brag on my husband big time! He made me Soo proud. As we were sitting in our seats waiting for the rodeo to start I noticed an elderly lady (pictured below) her grown daughter and 2 young granddaughters trying to come down the stairs. The elderly lady was having a rough time. I pointed them out to Thomas Harwell and said they may need help. Not only did he help get her to her seat, but she did not have the strength to come back up the stairs. So, he carried her!

One morning a husband returned after several hours of fishing and decided to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decided to take the boat out and go for a ride. She motored out a short distance, anchored, and began to read her book.
A short time later, along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulled up alongside the woman and said, “Good morning Ma’am. What are you doing?”
“Reading a book,” she replied, (thinking, “Isn’t that obvious?”)
“You’re in a restricted fishing area,” he informed her.
“I’m sorry officer, but I’m not fishing, I’m reading.”
“Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.”
“If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,” said the woman.
“But I haven’t even touched you,” said the game warden.
“That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.”
“Have a nice day ma’am,” he said and he left.
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It’s likely she can also think.

"This morning I was waiting to follow my daughters school bus to attend a field trip at the Venetucci farm, my daughter attends Sunrise Elementary. While I was waiting this police officer pulled up, got out of his car to help this little boy out. I believe he missed his bus and this police officer picked him up, drove him to school, helped him out of the car, then bent down to tie his shoes then walked him in. I had to capture this moment, especially with all the negativity with police officers going around. How amazing is this to see? I didn't get this officers name, but I felt I needed to share so the world can see that not all police officers are bad."🩷

On Thursday, as we boarded the plane, I realized I left my briefcase at the airport restaurant. Unfortunately, once you get on a plane, you cannot leave until you reach your destination. I immediately informed the flight crew about my situation. The crew asked me to describe the briefcase and instructed me to wait near the front of the plane. While I was trying not to panic, they asked if I would be a temporary flight attendant until someone found my bag. After a few minutes of greeting passengers, a hardworking crew member found my bag and delivered it to the plane. Thanks to the flight crew and pilots at Allegiant Air. They went above and beyond the call of duty.

I met him when he was 60 and I was 50, in 2008. He had been a bachelor all his life, although he’d lived with two different ladies at different times for about a year each. He had no children. We dated a couple years until my kids were out of the nest, then moved in together in 2010. We married in 2011. We moved out of the Seattle area and bought a house in Oregon in 2012. His sisters never thought he’d get married, especially once he hit 60, and when he had asked one of his buddies (who was into owning real estate) if he thought it was possible to still buy a small piece of property and put a mobile home on it for cheap, the guy said “At 60? Nah, man, you’re too late for that.” So that was the first set of milestones-a girlfriend, a wife, stepkids, and a house in 4 years. Not bad.
The next piece is the best part. We hummed along for about 5 years, enjoying life and doing the semi-retired lifestyle in our own place. No big changes. Then, everything changed in the blink of an eye. We got our Ancestry dot com results back, just wondering how much of whatever ethnicity we might be. Two weeks later he got a match on his account that was astronomically high. It was a young girl with Asian and UK heritage. Long story short, this girl submitted her DNA to look for her Vietnamese parents’ American GI fathers. Both her mom and dad were Amerasian children born during the Vietnam war to Vietnamese mothers and American fathers. We got on face time with the family and had the parents send in their own DNA. Sure enough, he matched as the father of the girl’s mother. In an instant my husband was a father, a father-in-law, and grandfather to not one, but four grandchildren (ages 16, 18, 20, and 24). Three girls and a boy! A few months later, the 20-year-old grandson and his girlfriend got married and had a baby girl. Now he’s a great-grandfather, and they are expecting their second child.
We met his daughter and her family for the first time the week he turned 70. The family all live in Florida and have all come here to Oregon to visit, more than once. I’ve been to see them in Florida (my husband cannot travel) and his sisters have taken the whole family into their lives and hearts, traveling to see them and hosting them in their homes in Georgia and Texas. It’s truly been a miracle. In 10 years my husband went from lonely bachelor in a run-down duplex to husband, stepfather, homeowner, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, all over the age of 60.
I just tell people, “He was a late bloomer”.

A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. Amazing, he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more.
Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, What am I doing? I'm too old for this, and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival.
Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife ran off with a state trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."
"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper 😁😁😁

As I’m heading to work this morning I see Tina (lady who makes my pizzas @ Pie Five) walking down Keller parkway. I pull over and ask if I can give her a ride.

She smiles like always and gets in the car…. mind you Pie Five is about 2 miles away from where I picked her up… so we got talking as we drove.

She expressed to me she started that job 7 months ago and walks 4 miles every day for work.

I said to her… Wow, I know that’s hard on your body; that’s got to be exhausting. She giggled and said “Yah, but what can you do Greg? I need the job… life doesn’t stop. So I make it work. I used to have a bike, but it broke and don’t have another one”.

I dropped her off and said I’ll see you soon! I called Bianca Ballog immediately… pretty choked up about it… told her the story and she said “Greg, we are getting that lady a bike!” I told her…we are on the same page. 2 hours later she now has transportation. Her face when she saw the bike was more than words could express.
She said… I am so thankful and don’t know what to say. I told her… we may be getting this for you, but you have given more to me today than you know.

I can not express enough… GET TO KNOW PEOPLE! Ask questions, ask about their struggles, ask what you can pray for. God has called us to serve and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

If people truly truly truly truly understood that and did that a lot of the crap that is going on in this world wouldn’t be going on. There are people in need and they are in your own back yard. All you have to do is step out “Your Circle” ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Today I was asked if I am any good with phones by an elderly man as he was trying to open a picture message that his granddaughter had sent.
After putting Sienna in her pram, I took a look at his phone which was a really old Nokia. As he didn’t have a smart phone I told him that he wouldn’t be able to view it. He was gutted and went on to tell me that it was a photo of his granddaughter and her new baby who he hadn’t seen yet as they live in Buxton.
So, I forwarded the message to my phone and eventually managed to open the picture. He was so emotional seeing his great granddaughter for the first time and you could see his love for them both through his teary eyes.
The man insisted on giving me £20 to treat my daughter to a toy as a thank you for helping him which I insisted I didn’t want, but he was having none of it. So, I asked him to wait there and I went to boots and printed the photo for him and ended up buying a frame for it too.
When I returned with the framed photo, he was so happy, literally overwhelmed.
This just made my day to make someone so happy. ❤️
