No post from Bunny Butt today, that’s right Agent Coulson here with a special report and shout out.
Mitchell’s Petting Zoo & Exotics is a small petting zoo in the town of Sweetwater TN home to the second largest fresh underwater sea in the world. While in town we decided to check them out because they offer a Capybara, Kangaroo, Prairie Dog, and Two-Toed Sloth experience. These animals are loved, well taken care of, and best of all the girl in these photos is a rescue.
This is Pea, she is a two-toed sloth whose life started as a “pet” to a rich lady, who kept her isolated and minimally socialized. Pea found her furever home at Mitchell’s where she currently has a small enclosure kept at specific temp and humidity settings similar to her natural habitat and entertains guest with her soul piercing looks and love of all things sweet potato stick.
She’s not a hugger, and you can’t pet her unless she is in the right mood, me too Pea. However being with her was all we needed for our encounter, it may not be enough for some people to just share her space admire her looks and feed her a sweet potato, but for us it was perfect. It reminds us of our work, of ferals, of Minerva, and how all animals wild, domesticated, or somewhere in between are all the same.
They have a story, their story matters, their life matters, and their happiness matters. For Pea her happiness is the love from her caretaking crew, meeting new people who are calm and understanding of her start in life, and of course her sweet potatoes.
The staff told us we could go get a personal interaction with other animals not part of the experience since she was not in a petting mood today, but for us, we didn’t need that, we needed exactly what Pea gave us, which was her time and sharing her sanctuary.
So to that staff and to Pea, thank you for the day, and keep rescuing and teaching and sharing Pea’s story and the stories of all your animals, especially Jelly Roll and Bunny the Capybara’s whom we can’t wait for them to have babies so we can come visit again.
