A photo of a few of Phanta’s radiation oncology team at MedVet Columbus . They wore Phanta shirts today!! Blessed and thankful to have such an amazing, knowledgeable, caring team pulling for us!

On January 16, 2022 (two years ago) with the quick response and expertise of our local vet, Ohio Valley Animal Care Center PLLC- Brandy Morgan DVM, phanta was diagnosed with oral melanoma. At that time, the expected survival time was 3-5 months.

Every day is a gift ~ Treasure Every Minute!! Always BELIEVE and always expect miracles!!!

Good news!!! First off, Phanta’s chest X-ray results came back and they are ALL CLEAR! 🙌 This is truly a miracle !!

Melanoma vaccine given. There has been some difficulty in obtaining the melanoma vaccine due to it being on back order. However, today was a day of miracles — they finally received the vaccine! 🎉🙏

Lots of necrotic tissue causing Phanta some discomfort - this is from tumor dying off in response to radiation therapy. Although it doesnt sound like good news, it really is positive that the melanoma tissue is dying … we just have to take extra precaution to prevent infection in her mouth. To help prevent
potential infections, we will continue administering antibiotics. Recheck in a month — sooner if necessary.

Believe me when I say this: if you have a pet with cancer and/or trying to prevent cancer & you don't have 🍄mushrooms🍄 supplemented in your daily diet plan, you are missing out!!

New Study finds people who incorporated any variety of mushrooms into their daily diets had a lower risk of cancer and lived-longer!

University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine found Dogs with cancer that were treated with a mushroom compound
had the longest survival times ever reported for dogs with the disease!

FYI: Rodney Habib and I discuss the types of mushrooms and dosages in our new and upcoming book: The Forever Dog:
www.foreverdog.com🍄

Human Study:
Individuals who ate 18 grams of mushrooms — or about 1/8 to 1/4 cup — daily had a 45% lower risk of cancer compared to those who did not eat mushrooms.

“STUDY REVEALS THE LINK BETWEEN OUR LAWNS, OUR PETS , CANCER AND US

Beware pet parents: Treating your lawn with yard chemicals , allowing your pet to eat or play on grass that’s been sprayed , or walking your pet on golf courses can negatively affect our dog’s health, according to several studies. In fact, it can impact your entire family, as pets can bring those chemicals back inside!
In our new book, The Forever Dog, it was critical for us to highlight things in and around your home that could damage your pet’s DNA. According to Dr. David Sinclair, Professor of Genetics, and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School- “DNA damage speeds up aging.”

Several studies show: dogs exposed (through laying, playing, ingesting or inhalation) to treated lawns has been associated with a significantly higher bladder cancer risk, and dogs whose owners reported use of professionally applied lawn pesticides were 70 PERCENT more likely to have lymphoma (cancer). In fact, there was an even higher risk of lymphoma if owners used self-applied insect growth regulators on their yards to control cockroaches, fleas, and other pests!

The Forever Dog book focuses on how to raise the healthiest, happiest, long-lived dogs, and in it we teach you how to Evaluate your dog’s indoor and outdoor environmental chemical exposure . In the section of the book titled Environmental Impact: The Body Burden, we where we offer you tips like:

• Safer lawn-care options
• DIY non-toxic w**d killer recipes
• Home Chemical Exposure Pet check list
• Forever Dog Foot Soak Recipe
• Supplements that support chemical clearance

Home foot soaks🧼 after walks in parks and public spaces can go a long way in reducing your dog’s chemical exposure. The Forever Dog is available now all over the globe! www.ForeverDog.com”

Great Article!!

Some good and interesting advice from the article.

•••Provide a dark sleeping environment for your dog, and make sure he gets seven to eight hours of sleep every night. This helps your dog’s body make melatonin, a natural hormone that may prevent and fight cancer.

•••***Obesity is a cancer attractor — so make sure your dog is at a healthy weight. Ask your vet to determine your dog’s ideal body condition and weight, and take steps to get her there.

•••Increase your dog’s joys of life in any way you can — because isolation and depression have strong links to cancer in humans.
Exercise! Exercise helps dogs feel good and keeps them strong and healthy.

•••Add brightly colored veggies, particularly bell peppers and cruciferous veggies like Brussel sprouts and broccoli, to your dog’s diet. These vegetables (and the others listed in the dog cancer diet in chapter 14) are all very supportive.

•••There is some evidence that red meat in your dog’s diet should be reduced in favor of leaner white meats and fish.

••••••***Cancer thrives in a sugary environment — so limit starches and carbohydrate-rich foods like corn, wheat, and sugar.

•••If you are feeding commercial dog foods, choose those that have been cooked at low temperatures. That means no traditional kibble, which is cooked at very high temperatures!

Can we really prevent cancer in dogs? Cancer thrives in certain bodies, so here’s how to make sure YOUR dog’s body is a hostile environment for cancer.

A Reiki session this morning with Phanta. Phanta is being treated for an oral cancer and has surgery soon. Because of the cancer, a massage is on hold to avoid spreading the cancer through the lymph system. Today was her first session with Reiki and she was only accepting it for a short bit of time. Animals will take what they need and very clearly convey when they are through.

**Our level 1 and 2 Reiki class is scheduled for March 19 and 20.

K9 Phanta is 8 years, 9 months old. Diagnosed with oral melanoma on
1/24/2022. Phanta is a special girl - gentle, kind and full of life. She is also very magical. I believe, we have a chance to fight this cancer! I also believe with your continued prayers, healing light and positive energy … YOU are contributing to the well being of Phanta … and YOU are also helping me more than you know. I thank you all for your continued support, thoughts and prayers.

We are starting a T-shirt fundraiser to help with some of the expenses of Phanta’s medical care as we do not have doggy insurance. (we already signed up for medical insurance with both Soul and Skyelo). The design we will be using was designed and painted with water colors by Katie McGilton Everson daughter, Ella Everson. They have a puppy from our Dezta/Diego ‘R’ Litter. The shirts will come in multiple colors with both short sleeve and long sleeve. The shirts will be sold for 2-weeks and will ship on March 1st through Bonfire.

I do ask that every time you wear this shirt … or even look at the shirt … please think of us and send love, light and healing energy our way.

As we move forward with our treatment options, I will let everyone know when our appointments are at Med Vet…and/or when we need some extra prayers… During those times I might also ask that you all wear your shirts for some extra healing energy. We have a long road ahead ….
!

“It’s when we start working together that the real healing takes place.”
- David Hume

We first noted that Phanta had some bad breath and our young male,Skyelo, (Phanta’s nephew) was sniffing around her mouth… I thought maybe she had cracked a tooth and it had gotten infected…But in the back of my mind I was thinking she could have a tumor. I called our vet. I told them I was concerned about a possible tumor. I know they already think I’m nuts…. They called me back. They know me well. Dr. Morgan had surgeries that day but said she would check Phanta in between surgeries. She said it was by the Grace of God that she was able to see the tumor/mass in the far back of Phanta’s mouth. She said that God was definitely with her while examining Phanta. She removed the mass the following day. Pathology came back Monday morning (1/24/2022)showing oral Melanoma. (A very aggressive cancer)

We were scheduled for an appointment at Med Vet on the day of the ice/snow storm. When talking with Med Vet that morning (2/04/2022), they said that a lot of staff could not make it to work and they would be unable to perform all of the necessary Testing. At that point, they offered a telehealth phone visit. We spoke with our oncologist (Dr. Erin Malone) from MedVet for the follow up following removal of a mass by our local veterinarian ( Ohio Valley Animal Care Center PLLC- Brandy Morgan DVM)from Phanta’s soft palate area in the back of her mouth on the left side with the biopsy results confirming a diagnosis of an aggressive cancer called oral melanoma. We are so very thankful for our local Vet, Dr. Brandy Morgan, for finding this mass and removing it so quickly.

The telephone conversation with Dr. Malone was very informative. It was a good consultation and I learned a lot. We will go Thursday (2/10/2022) at 10:30 AM for an actual physical examination, surgical consultation to see if the surgeon feels he can do anything else, we will discuss radiation treatments. She will have an abdominal ultrasound, and she will begin the melanoma vaccine. She will get the vaccine once every 2-weeks through March. After March 24, she will get the vaccine every 6- months for the rest of her life - as long as the cancer does not metastasize (spread).
The mitotic count for cancer cells is between 0-80. They like to see a count of 3 or less for a good prognosis. Phanta’s count is 4. Dr. Malone said she is very optimistic that we can at least treat this for a period of time. At this point … the lungs, abdomen and Skull appear to be clear with all normal blood work…. And no advancement into the lymphatic system. Continued prayers are appreciated.

The vaccine is a human DNA vaccine that fights cancer cells and promotes regrowth of good cells. The vaccine is not a cure.

“ONCEPT® Canine Melanoma Vaccine, DNA
Promising new immunotherapy technology has led to the first DNA-based vaccine for cancer in either animals or humans.

An innovative canine melanoma vaccine called ONCEPT is now available for dogs like yours. ONCEPT has been used in dogs with stage II or stage III canine oral melanoma to support surgery and/or radiation therapy and prolong survival time.
Most of the vaccines your veterinarian uses for your dog contain a small amount of disease-causing organisms, such as a virus. The organisms have been modified so they don’t cause the disease, but help the dog’s immune system recognize and fight off the disease if the dog is exposed.

A DNA-based vaccine uses information found in DNA to help the dog’s immune system recognize a specific protein found on cells that may normally be ignored, such as melanoma tumor cells.

Vaccine: The vaccine itself costs approximately $1,000 to $1,500 per dose, with a minimum of four initial doses recommended and later one booster vaccine every six months.”
