Balmedie Pet Care is operated by Coralie Aitken BSc, a dog walker with five years’ experience and an HNC in Animal Care. A Zoology/Microbiology graduate with a natural affinity for animals, I am fully insured and versed in all aspects of feline and canine care. Walks are offered one-to-one or with no more than four dogs at a time to ensure that each pet receives the attention it deserves. Premium

adventure walks are also available, designed to thoroughly stimulate dogs both physically and mentally. Places are limited for these enhanced walks which take place in a variety of challenging environments from hills to rivers and will push each animal harder, leaving them exhausted but elated. With an interest in animal psychology and physiology, I'm constantly learning and striving to further enhance the range of dog walks I offer so as to increase the level of interactivity, resulting in happier and better behaved pets.

Tuesday Tip from Alba Dogs

If you only take your dogs out for long walks, you may not be meeting all your dog’s needs.

Dogs need more than physical exercise, they need emotional and mental support also.

I hear people say that they walked their dog for Three Hours! and still their dog did not rest!

That’s because they have over exercised their dog, their dog’s adrenaline levels are high and their dog simply cannot unwind!

I’m not saying don’t go for long walks but when you do, you may have to do something with your dog to wind them down so they can reset themselves and then relax.

You could also take time on your walk to slow down, drop some treats and allow your dog to stop and sniff, take in all the information in that area.

Or simply stop and sit with your dog and enjoy the view.

Balance is the key, some exciting fast play or walks and some slow sniffing walks, some long and some short, lazy days at home where you both just hang out together and some enrichment where your dog uses their other senses using some low impact exercise like ACE Free Work.

Sensory Sunday at Alba Dogs can give you that opportunity to let your dog experience exercising all their senses in a low impact way. Believe me, they go home just as tired as they would have if you gave them a walk.

If you come to Sensory Sunday, the room is all set up for you, you just turn up with your dog and their treats at the time slot you booked. Have a Free cuppa as you watch your dog, and then go home and relax.

I can’t think on a better way to spend a Sunday! 😍

Yesterday this dog went missing from her new owners shortly after the dog transporter dropped her off. She is a Romanian rescue, she is anxious and scared of anyone going near her. She is is survival mode so it’s very important that no-one approaches her, calls to her or tries to catch or chase her, if anyone does any of these she will be scared off and run from the area where the Dog Trapping SAR team have everything in place to try and capture her safely. If you see her please ignore her and immediately call the following number giving the time, the exact location and what direction she is travelling in tel 07792026927.
Please DONT put any sightings on Fb or in a comment on a post. We really do have to keep her safe from any dangers.
We immensely appreciate everyone in this great community thats been keeping a look out for her and has called in with sightings so we can keep track of her and keep her safe. Again sightings contact number is 07792026927.
Many thanks to everyone, any updates will
let you know 😊🐾

We have had a message from the SSPCA regarding the behaviour of some visitors on Newburgh beach this weekend around Seals that have been on the Newburgh side of the river. Every March we tend to get young Seals (not pups) on Newburgh to moult their fur for the first time and they can be there for a few days at a time. They also tend to avoid the main haul-out on Forvie to do this. Please keep a distance, never get between the Seal and the water so they can escape if required and KEEP DOGS ON A LEAD AND AWAY FROM THE SEAL!. We also haven't had to say this in a long time but please NEVER ATTEMPT TO PET A WILD SEAL OR ALLOW CHILDREN TO! Reports have also included groups of visitors surrounding Seals, dozens at a time and this has caused a great deal of concern to other visitors who have contact YSW and the SSPCA over the weekend quite distressed with what they have witnessed. Please remember that Seals at the Ythan are wild animals. The have a nasty bite and carry diseases that can transmit to humans and dogs. The SSPCA were so concerned about what was being reported they have posted advice this morning.

https://www.facebook.com/scottishspca/photos/a.185990696875/10158800332481876/

We would also ask that ANY type of disturbance/inappropriate behaviour around Seals at the Ythan is reported to Police Scotland on 101 or via the form below quoting "Operation Seabird". We have this new and updated advice directly from Police Scotland and we would encourage anyone to report disturbance incidents or Seals being pestered by visitors on Newburgh beach, not just the haul-out on Forvie. If anyone visiting needs advice or has concerns you can also photograph/film any incidents and contact us for advice via messenger. We can advise what to report or even make posts to educate other visitors through our page. Likewise if you have concerns for a Seals safety and you have been advised it is healthy and doesn't require rescuing by the SSPCA or BDMLR, please also get in touch with us and we can arrange for supervision of the Seal.

If you encounter a Seal at the Ythan or on the coast you think may need help please contact the BDMLR:

Thank you everyone for the many messages we have received this weekend with concerns and everyone's help to protect the Seals at the Ythan. The help and support that the Seals receive from visitors makes all the difference, especially reporting incidents to Police Scotland.

It’s so nice to be back at work !!! I can’t even explain how much I missed it on holiday !
I have a dog leaving due to parents retiring and one changing jobs , so I will have spaces available starting now 🖤🐾. Your dogs will be given walks in small groups . Ive always prided myself on keeping my numbers down on group walks so that your dogs get my full attention, the attention they need and deserve! Reducing any behaviour issues that come with over stimulating them and being able to offer much more bespoke walks , suitable to individual needs 🖤🖤🦴🐾🖤
