Gauge X Emmie pups made their arrival May 12th!
What you see is 3 healthy puppies.
What you don’t see is the 2 puppies that we lost.
Breeding is not all sunshine & rainbows. You rarely see on social media what could go wrong..
It could be c-sections, placenta abruption, a still born puppy, low birth weight/not gaining weight, hemorrhage, infections.. the list goes on.

When breeding, the goal has always been to “better the breed” and produce extremely healthy dogs.
Breeding has always been our way to share everything we love about our dogs with others that were looking for a hunting dog & family member. When choosing owners for our puppies, we have always been very picky and asked hard/awkward questions to make sure they were going to a home where they would be loved above anything else.

After losing 2 puppies, it hit us hard & made us realize that this may be our sign to take a step back from breeding.

We are extremely grateful for Emmie staying healthy & for these 3 healthy puppies.

The bond.
What no one prepares you for as a dog trainer- the connection you will make with every dog that you train. When training a dog you build your relationship together, working as a team. Every dog is different & the way you train each dog may vary. But,
the bond is something that I will always have with each one.

Jumping in the dog trailer & riding down gravel roads. Then hearing the wingers get set up & some other dogs run. Benelli was ready to get out of that trailer to show us what she’s got! Benelli continues to impress us this year of training- she’s becoming a great bird dog.

Like a lot of you my dad got me into hunting. I’ll never forget my first deer I shot with him sitting next to me on the ground with our backs up against a tree. Little did I know what kind of passion that day would instill in me for hunting. When I heard my dad drew a buck tag for Kansas my whole focus was trying to find a spot he would have a opportunity to harvest a Kansas buck. Thankfully I got permission on a farm just a couple miles from the house. Dad and I walked it the day before opening day and got together a plan on how he would hunt it. Our plan was for him to sit and the ground with his back up against a tree and see what happens. Only 40 minutes after legal shooting light this beautiful mature buck steps out at 60 yards and the rest is history. I know God had a huge part of this deer being harvested. No one deserves it more than my dad. I can’t thank him enough for introducing me to hunting and instilling good morals that I plan on passing along to my boys. Congrats dad couldn’t be more happier for you.

The best time of the year is watching our pups that we spent months training and caring for go home to their owners and go on their first hunt. Proud of benelli on her first hunt. Can’t wait to get these dogs back so we can get back to work! Congratulations Derek and on a wonderful dog

It was a great weekend running the Treasure State Retrievers hunt test in Butte, MT. Thank you too all of the judges and members that put it all together.

We ran a total of 8 tests & passed each one- super proud of these dogs!
Dixie- earned her finished title this weekend. HRCH Pride of the Bayou Dixie Reign
Jenny- earned her seasoned title this weekend.

Sadie- also ran her first hunt test in Started & passed both days

We had a busy weekend of puppy pick-ups!
People always ask if it’s hard or sad to give these pups away. It’s always hard, these are your babies for 8 weeks & you love every single one. But when you couldn’t be happier about every single family that was chosen to take a pup home- that makes the experience not sad, but more exciting. To see the joy in every single one of these faces when they picked up their pup only make us excited for what’s to come!

One more special family is left to pick up their little girl & we couldn’t be more excited for them!

Kodi loving life training with some pheasants!
Kodi is a Gauge x Emmie pup from last years litter. She is a blast to train- super smart, has a lot of drive & loves to please. She has a bright future ahead!
Right now she is crushing her marks & is getting ready for her first hunt test at the end of July💪🏼
