Here's a bird's eye view of the major fire going over the 101 fwy yesterday afternoon in Camarillo. Pretty scary .. you could see the helicopters dumping water, the wind was so strong it was just spreading the water drops around so not very effective .. meanwhile the traffic was bumper to bumper with no way to escape. This is the "Mountain": fire, it had already crossed the 118 fwy and was burning homes, big and small, to the ground on the other side of the hill. I had 4 dogs in the cab of my truck and 3 big dogs in the camper. I wondered what i would do if i had to evacuate with all of them, 2 of whom don't know me.
With Trump's plans to unwind all of the environmental protections put in place during Biden's tenure, fires burning down homes and property due to climate change in California and elsewhere will grow all the more frequent and destructive. I shudder to think what will happen over the next 4 years but I am certain it will not be good for the environment or the populous, 2 legged and 4. So shortsighted. Makes me very sad for our planet and the animals, including us, who live there. Hard to believe Trump could get re-elected but that sure tells you what's important to people these days .. and the environment and wildlife and actually life as it exists now, is apparently way down on the important issue list. A tragedy for all of us., young and old.

Some fantastic news to share. Cattledog mix sisters, Buffy and Puffy, rescued June 2023 found their new home with one of our walkers and her husband Saturday. The adopters had lost their two seniors and were so missing having pups. Their new mom started walking at the kennel, met Buffy and Puffy and voila, they are now one happy family. Always so nice for the pups to go home with someone they already know. Puffy (or is it Buffy?) is not great with strangers so going home someone she knows is just perfect, especially when the new home also includes her sister. Lucky pups for sure. Enjoy!

Bo and his sister Kamila were turned over to us by their family at 4 months of age. They were not good with the family's chickens or ducks. Fast forward a couple of months and here is Bo, happy to be participating in a local adoption event. Bo and Kamila are enjoying the activity and the many dogs to play with at the kennel and are learning their leash manners. They are set to be s/n October 30th then will be ready to go to their new home. Bo says he's just happy to be in Rescue. They were originally taken by their family from an abusive owner. Now they are definitely loving life. Enjoy!

Cuddle buddies Elena and Bumper. Dalmatians are so very velcro and cuddly .. that's why we always think multiple pups are best. And I'd say these two agree. Enjoy!!!

I wanted to share this lovely photo of Tanner, adopted a while back, and his new 6 yr old friend his family has taken in. They report that Tanner has adopted her. Sure looks like it. So when he's not busy playing with Zelda (and Gypsy), he's hanging with his new human friend. Perfect!

Arnold got his second chance in April. He was a rambunctious boy at the kennel and needed a busy family who would give him an outlet for his BIG personality and energy! He sure lucked out!

Having shared a lovely photo of vizsla mix Tim with his new dad, seemed a good idea to share a photo of Tim with his brother Rudy on the left taken when Tim was with us. Rudy is still looking for his forever home. Very handsome fellow, a bit shy but friendly. Any interest please email us at [email protected].

November 7, 2022, Kelly, a red vizsla mix rescued from the Bakersfield shelter gave birth to 8 pups ...5 girls and 3 boys. The smallest of the litter we called Tiny Tim who grew up to be a very handsome medium size reddish dog. Here he is with his new dad. His owner reports he loves to play, follows the mom everywhere, is doing well with the training, and is a "fantastic" dog. What a lucky pup. We still have 3 of the reddish pups: Tim's brothers Nick and Rudy, and his sister Spice. They are all very handsome dogs, medium to large, and like Tim would surely make some family excellent companions. You can see Nick, Rudy and Spice, along with many other nice friendly pups available for adoption on our website, www.dalrescuesocal.com under Adopt A Dog. Email us at [email protected] if you see dogs you'd like to meet. Adopt a new 4 legged family member and make room for another friendly dog to be rescued. A Win Win all around. Thanks!!!

We just took in these two sister brother pair, 5 months old. They have been living on a farm in Phelan and killed the chickens and a duck. Dalmatians can have a very high prey drive so it is best to keep control over your dalmatian while around small animals, cats, rabbits, chickens, etc., until you know whether your dog has a high prey drive or not. Not all do but some do. We had a smallish blue eyed dalmatian, Biscuit, cutest dalmatian you ever saw, good with dogs but she had a very high prey drive and would try to kill whatever small critters she came into contact with. Best dog otherwise and once we knew the issue, it was not a problem. Just something to beware of.

Another lovely photo to make you smile. Here are Violet and Bizzy Lizzy boating with their dad. Violet was the dalmatian we rec'd from her owner with a tight rubber muzzle wrapped around her mouth. Of course she was scared and snappy .. who wouldn't be. Both girls just needed the right place and we think they found it for sure with this dalmatian loving family. Enjoy!!!

I just had to share this smiling photo of Marshal adopted with his bff Glow and now living the life. His new mom says they both love to sit in the car. He sure does look happy. His big smile puts a big smile on my face. So glad these seniors found their place. Such fantastic pups. Enjoy!

May 2023 we rescued a baby cattledog/terrier mix girl named Brooke from the Bakersfield County shelter. She was the kennel mate of dalmatian mix, Lucy Lou, we were rescuing, and it's never good to leave a kennel mate behind. Lucy Lou was quickly adopted and Brooke settled into my home with her many dog and cat friends. She's such a nice girl, I was so hoping to find the perfect home for her. Finally, a Huntington Beach couple who had recently lost their dog and have 3 cats, applied for Brooke. They met Brooke on Sunday and voila, Brooke has a new home in dog friendly HB. She will be fine with the cats and once she settles in, will enjoy playing with the dog next door (who is already anxious to meet her), going on trips to the beach and elsewhere, and just generally living the life. I will miss her but I'm so very glad she's found her place. No doubt she's a bit shell shocked with the quick change but I know she'll be one happy girl soon. What Rescue is all about. Enoy!

Tomorrow, August 9th, will be the 10th anniversary of my husband's passing. Not a day goes by I don't think about him and miss him. You'd think it would get easier but it just doesn't seem to. This year i thought I would celebrate Mark's life as well as that of my brother Alex, another cancer victim and lost to us way too soon. I think this is the only photo i have of just the two of them, taken in 87 or 88, at some family gathering in our home. Both such sweet caring men .. they loved their family .. they loved their dogs .. they loved life. They both went on trips across the US by themselves, more similar in character than you'd think. I like to think they are together now .. perhaps my brother is helping Mark take care of all our animals .. it's a crew for sure. Mark is probably telling jokes and Alex is laughing away. Mark would always make comments under his breath at family gatherings and Alex (and I) would crack up. Strange the things you think of. Miss and love them both way too much. Until we meet again.

Our Story

Dalmatian Rescue of Southern California, Inc. was borne from the love of a childhood dog, who just happened to be a Dalmatian. Surprise! When all the adults around were too busy to stop and often notice what was going on and acknowledge feelings, this dog showered kisses and taught values such as, loyalty, friendship, kindness, patience, faith, and LOVE. This is the drive behind DRSC, Inc. That love became our calling and all the people who work with us, seem to feel the same way. There are few things as precious in life as the companionship of a four-legged friend. Of course, one with spots is an added bonus!
