UPDATE: Whiskers has been adopted by a loving family!!!
HAPPY UPDATE: Whiskers was taken in by All About Cats Rescue in Freeport, NY where he will be fully vetted and up for adoption. Thank you to everyone who shared and reached out! He is is great hands now and never have to live outdoors again!
Hello! Does anybody have room in their home and heart to foster this sweet boy? The homeowners have been feeding him for the last few months, he seems to be about 4-5 months old. He’s super friendly and you can pick him up and pet him. Homeowners cannot bring him inside due to their child’s allergy.
They’ve reached out to several rescues who haven’t been able to help, or they just want to TNR but he is way too friendly to be left outside.
We can take care of the vetting if there’s someone that is willing to foster. We can work on getting him a home of course but would rather get him inside as soon as possible. Please comment below or PM us! Thank you 😻
No one was happier than Bruiser was today when he was released back to his colony after his neuter ✂️ Bruiser is part of a colony that we’ve been working on trapping over the last few years. He was a hard one to trap but thanks to @kimebash and some very cooperative and motivated caretakers, we were able to finally get him! Little does he know that his quality of life is about to get immensely better as a neutered feral male 😻 #tnr #tnrworks #longislandcatadoption
Not all hero’s wear capes! Thank you Robert Brantley for being so kind and willing to help these 13 babies. We wish everyone could show compassion like this.
However, as rescuers it made us sad to see comments like “why can’t things like this happen to me?”, “best day ever”, “I want all of them”.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of people don’t understand what goes into fostering and rescuing. We see past these cute kittens and instead see: upper respiratory infections, eye infections, fleas, worms, diarrhea, possible infectious diseases that may be spread to the other kittens, and the reality that some may die from any combinations of the above ailments before they could even be adopted.
Not to mention the thousands of dollars in veterinary bills this will cost, the hundreds of dollars spent on supplies such as litter, wee wee pads, and food. The hours of lost sleep we spend making sure the sick ones make it through the night, the constant second guessing whether or not you’re following the right protocols or if they are gaining weight at a steady enough pace. How often you think you’ve broken the record of how many times one can clean up cat poop in a given day. The stress of finding suitable adopters for these babies…
Also, if you don’t catch the parents of these babies, there’s going to be more kittens! Sooner than you think! So you better be prepared to drive around the area, knock on doors, to find out who is feeding the parents of these cats and sit out there for a few hours to try and trap them to be spayed and neutered to prevent this cycle. And good luck trying to coordinate trapping with when you can get an appointment at the vet. The list goes on!
We do this because it is our purpose and we love helping these little creatures, we just wish more people would understand what is really behind that cute little kitten.
So PLEASE, PLEASE spay and neuter your pets and TNR your ferals!
