Is there anything sweeter than a powdered sugar face 😊 We love furry friends of all ages, but there's just something special about our senior friends. Maybe it's their wisdom from their years as your best friend, but we can't help but fall in love with them 😍

With age also comes health concerns, maybe it's medication or mobility issues, which can make leaving them behind while you're away difficult. Whatever it is we're here to help 🧡 We love showering your senior friend with all the TLC they need and providing them with the best care so you can enjoy your time away!

Couldn’t have said it better! Much thanks to our pet sitting professional pals in TX.

Wondering about the cost of a pet sitter? You may be wondering why some services are so expensive. But what you really should be asking is “Why are some pet sitters so CHEAP?!!”
There, I said it.
Like many industries, Pet Care is UNREGULATED!!
There is no license required. Literally no training certificate required to operate. Anyone can be your dog walker, pet sitter, or boarder.
But when you choose a professional company like Texas Ruff House. You’re choosing someone who values their trade by taking additional steps like enrolling in courses on pet health, pet care, and pet enrichment. Texas Ruff House also belongs to professional pet sitting associations.
Professional companies invest in a good insurance and bonding plan because your pets and home deserve the best coverage in case of emergency.
Professional companies also invest in their team members. We oversee each and every service to ensure your instructions are carried out.
When you plan your vacation, also budget for the cost of a professional pet sitter and dog walker. Because you both deserve that. 🐾 It's an investment in your pet's safety, happiness, and your peace of mind.
From daily walks to cuddles and playtime, we offer full transparency on our rates and services right on our website. Come find out why our personalized care is worth every penny.

Shout out to our Kzoo Fam of Awesome Humans: Please keep supporting our amazing & unique local businesses during construction season. 🙏 😘 🚧

My beloved Kalamazoo community, it's time to make one of those posts that I really, really dislike making, but here we are.

We were sailing along earlier this year, having our first really good year since Covid. In retail, much of our inventory has to be ordered months in advance, and I ordered accordingly. And then the furor around the state of construction in Kalamazoo hit, and suddenly we find ourselves 39.06% lower in sales than before construction started. In addition to that, all the bills are about to come due, and much of the construction is slated to continue into the fall.

Running a business downtown is expensive, and this nearly 40% dive is not sustainable for even a couple months, let alone that this was to be the time that we shored up for the upcoming 2025 conversion of the main downtown streets. We won't be here (along with some neighbors, I suspect), if something doesn't change. I feel frustrated and helpless - the only factor that I have an ounce of influence over in these next many months is convincing our customers that we downtown shops are worthy of a few extra transit minutes.

I know the "everything, everywhere, all-at-once" approach to construction is frustrating to navigate, but I am asking that you consider us downtown Kalamazoo shops and the personality, heart and flair that we add to our city to be worth finding a new path to us. I know some neighborhoods have more than their share of construction, but a lot of the frustration has snowballed online to making it seem much worse than many of the roads really are. (And other than Michikal, downtown is sitting quite pretty.)

Our amazing community has unfailingly responded whenever we have been hurting, and we are hurting badly. To those of you have been in recently, you have no idea how much you are appreciated. To everyone else, we'd really love to see your beautiful faces.

Sincerely,

Amy

Toby would like to know if you brought him any special treats???

Treats are one of the tools we use to build a relationship with your pet! I mean if someone brought me a cookie every time I saw them, I'd be their best friend too 🍪😆 Treats, along with respecting your pets' boundaries, is how we build a trusting relationship with you pet. And it's how you'll know they're always in good hands with someone who cares about them as much as you do 🧡

Looking to adopt? Check out this cutie! 🐾 💕

Adoptable dog alert!

Everyone, meet Lucy (shelter name Macaroni). We had the pleasure of chatting with her foster mom this week and wanted to help get the word out about this beautiful girl. See below for a wonderful description from her foster mom. She is available through Animal Rescue Project, but if you have any questions, you are welcome to leave a voicemail or send a text to: 269/808-0711.

From her foster: A great little dog! At first timid and scared at the shelter, she has really blossomed, gaining confidence and showing her fun, gentle and endearing personality. About 2 yrs old, 37 lbs, terrier mix (pocket pittie mix? with lab?), smart, sweet, playful. Quiet and self-sufficient while you’re busy, then ready to zoom around the yard, retrieve tennis balls, or go for walks (she does forget herself sometimes and really pull when she gets excited). House-trained, crate-trained, knows some commands, learns fast, unusually good manners. She can entertain herself, indoors or out, but she prefers your company, and she’ll offer to help with your yardwork. (I was pulling small saplings out of my yard and left one that wouldn’t come out. The next thing I knew, Lucy had that sapling in her jaws and was hauling backward on it with all her might.) She thrives on a couple of 15 minute walks and a few minutes of play time once or twice a day. Now she’s looking for her own forever home, with someone who’ll continue to help her work on knowing she’s safe, especially around people she doesn’t know and other dogs. A low-commotion household with adults or older children and no other pets would probably be best. She’s ideal for someone who works at home and wants a sweet, fun and easy companion.

Kzoo Cat Cafe and Rescue needs your support more than ever 💜 🐱

Real Rescue Talk ahead...

3 years ago... we were coming to the end of our old lease, and hit dead end after dead end in trying to finance a new space of our own. We were told over and over that our non-profit didn't have enough of a profit (because we spend it on the cats, you know - our mission??) to trust we'd be able to pay... until we ran out of time.

We thought the PURRfect forever home that we had found wouldn't be ours - but we were lucky enough to be working with one of the nicest, greatest, most supportive people of all time, who worked with us for the past 3 years to support our move, our mission and has actually BELIEVED in us.

In the last 3 years, we had to spend $14,695.87 on the 'site plan' for the new building (having to make alterations to the inside and outside of the building, including the $3k to draw it all, $7+ on the building itself, and another $3k on landscaping and on the parking lot), to be approved for occupancy from the city... $12,323.43 on property taxes because we couldn't apply for exception (which we now have) because we weren't approved for occupancy yet, PLUS 9 EXTRA months of paying rent on TWO locations while we completed this process... and we took care of it. All of it.

This year, it was time to move to traditional financing (which we weren't able to get 3 years ago)... and since just before new year, we've been jumping through hoop after hoop to PROVE that we are capable. Making phone calls, answering questions, dealing with the most ridiculous condescending and frustrating conversations, sending emails, providing both personal and business financial information... everything that was asked of us, and more, and we were finally approved. Kind of.

As a condition of our approval, 6 months of our monthly payments is being held in an inaccessible account for the first year, and the DAY before closing, we were told that the closing costs we were expecting, were actually MORE than double.

Essentially, our operating budget (money in the bank for the kitties) was completely slashed by about half in a matter of one week.

In July, Kzoo Cat Cafe and Rescue will be 7 years old. We made it through the first 3 years (which, statistically, most small businesses don't) - we made it through COVID, and we've made it through our big move and all the unexpected costs... and we've done 1250 adoptions to date. We've rescued and helped 1600+ kitties in the Kalamazoo community who have needed us most.

With all your support, we have had the privileged position of being able to help kitties who are in need without hesitation, help kitties that other rescues have turned away for not being 'adoptable' enough, help kitties anyway who's outcome we know won't be good, and provide what some may see as 'above and beyond' care to our cafe kitties while they wait with us to find their own forever home.

And we will not be able to continue to do so without your continued support. Now more than ever.

At this very moment, I've got a kitty on my lap (Goose, you may know him) who has had multiple vet appointments, ran blood work over and over, and other testing to figure out what is going on with him... and we still don't know... And next to me is a touch and go, 6oz 2+ week old baby kitten (Toaster Strudel) who has pnemonia and has to be tube fed every few hours because he can't eat.

Today we paid a $3,900 deposit at a specialty vet for a kitty who, after several vet appointments and attempted procedures already, needed a CT scan to figure out how to treat him moving forward (Barnaby)... and another vet visit today for a kitty (Dalton) who was attacked and had multiple injuries, including severe injuries to his foot which are badly infected.

It never stops.

In fact, summer is our BUSIEST rescue season, and we see the least number of visitors to the cafe, and the least number of adoptions in the summer months.

TL;DR - we NEED help. MEOW is the time.

Every time I think, ok phew we've jumped the last hurdle, now we can really focus on the cats - something else comes up. Having our operating budget slashed in half wasn't something we had planned on during our busiest rescue and slowest adoption season... but here we are. We have ALWAYS relied on the support of our amazing community.

YOU have gotten us this far. YOU have visited, YOU have donated, YOU have adopted.... and we need YOU more now than ever!!

PLEASE take a second to like, comment or share our story.

PLEASE donate if you are able. PLEASE come visit the kitties at the cafe. PLEASE consider adding a furry family member this summer if you are able. PLEASE attend one of our events! There are SO many ways to get involved and show your support.

We appreciate you. We need you. The kitties need you 💜

Thank you,
🐾 Abbey
