The Volunteers of The Trumbull County Pound and Community CREATED/MAINTAINED by VOLUNTEERS. This FB page is created to help the dogs of this county...dogs IN the pound, and dogs trying to stay OUT of the pound.

THE VOLUNTEERS of the TRUMBULL CO POUND & COMMUNITY is a 'NON-PROFIT', but not a 501c3 tax exempt. ALL donations go towards the care of pound and community animals in need of immediate medical care. We also help people in the community who need emergency help to care for their pets, or for strays found in need in the community.
** WE NEE

D YOUR HELP ** - The Volunteers of the Trumbull Co Pound & Community regularly are called on to take pound dogs with medical needs to the vet. We have HUGE vet bills because of this. We operate on Donations and proceeds from Fundraisers. Any donations given directly to the Animal Medical Care Center in Niles 330-652-0400 (POUND RESCUE Acct # 21159), are greatly appreciated! Join us in helping to care for the animals in our community....in and out of the pound. Our Community is US! WE ARE THE COMMUNITY! DOG WALKERS NEEDED!!!!! Address:

This is a county facility. The staff are not allowed by law to refuse any incoming stray dog. (THEY ARE, HOWEVER, ALLOWED TO REFUSE OWNER TURN INS when the pound is FULL.) Therefore space is always a huge concern, if the number of incoming exceeds available kennel runs. A stray/lost dog must be kept for 72 business hours to allow time for an owner to locate their pet. An "owner-turn-in" is not lost, and therefore does not have to be kept for any length of time, although all efforts are made to avoid euthanasia. Rescue volunteers try to get as many dogs as possible out to RESCUES, both local, around the state, and around the country, and to spark public interest in ADOPTIONS. This is a former gassing facility, which switched to euthanasia by injection (spring/summer 2011). *UPDATE: THE VERY VERY RARE EUTHANASIA IS NOW ONLY DONE AT THE VET.*

Adoption Fee: $50 (includes Microchip)
Dog License: $18
Mandatory Spay/Neuter Contract with every dog adopted/rescued. Microchipping available to public: $25

Check out the Foster to Adopt option, which allows a dog to go home with you for up to 3 weeks, to see if it is a good fit for your family and home. The pound accepts payment in cash or by personal check. It does not have capability to accept credit or debit cards.

Axel is heartbroken. He doesn't understand why last night he was going to bed with his family, and tonight, he's all alone in his kennel😔. Axel was originally found as a stray back in January of 2024. He was quickly adopted and now finds himself back at the pound just a year later. Unfortunately, circumstances changed, and his family could no longer keep him.

*Please no negative comments. They aren't helpful, and our focus needs to be on finding Axel a new, loving home as soon as possible.*

Axel is thought to be a shepherd/hound mix. He is estimated at 3 years old, and he weighs about 60 lbs. Axel is housebroken, slept in bed with his family every night, and loves kids. We learned that he was a great copilot and looked forward to his morning car rides every day with his mom. This beautiful boy is a sucker for belly rubs, too, and will never turn down a pup cup. His family said he's so very smart and the happiest when he's with you. Axel was not around other animals in his home, but as always , a meet and greet with your resident dog or cat would be required to ensure a good fit.

Axel needs a home that will allow him the time he needs to decompress and feel safe. He just needs a little patience. He's been through a lot and needs to know you aren't going anywhere, that he can count on you.

Please get your application in as soon as possible. We would love for his stay back at the pound to be a short one. The kennel life is not for him💔. -Wendi

Dana is hoping you don’t pass her by without giving her some love ♥️ and a share! Look at this precious little face. Just begging for love and attention. This little lady is the happiest girl! She loves EVERYONE she meets and her little tail goes a mile a minute shaking her whole b***y in the process 🥹 she also lets out the cutest little snorts of excitement- adorable!!

Dana is estimated at 3 yrs old and 52 lbs. She walks well on a leash and knows some basic commands. She also appears dog friendly ( meet and greet required). She has a beautiful coat and let’s not forget those ears!! I truly believe she will be a couch potato and be your tv buddy!

Get your app in now for this sweet girl and let’s get her into her forever home! - Tiffany

Smidge is warming up every minute she would do so much better if she got to be in home than in her kennel 💔

This sweet girl is just a baby at about a year old and weighs around 46lbs. She is a Hound mix. Smidge is still very much a puppy at heart, and she’s looking for a loving home to help her feel safe and secure.

Although she just arrived at the shelter, Smidge is a little nervous and unsure of her new surroundings. It takes her a few moments to warm up to new people, but with a little patience and love, she’ll show you her sweet personality! 💖

Smidge loves going for walks and is eager to explore the world outside the pound. She seems to get along well with other pups, but we think she’d do best in a home with older kids who can understand her need for gentle interactions.

Please note, Smidge has not been cat tested yet.

If you think you can give this scared girl the time and love she needs, come meet Smidge and help her find her forever home! 🏡✨

Jolly is sick of being at the pound already 💔…

Jolly is your guy! He is the happiest most lovable boy when he is with you! He cries and cries when he has to go back into his kennel. He loves to be with his people.

He got to go on a field trip this week and here is what they had to share:

“He's so much fun! He loves water and is completely fearless. He is a strong boy and needs a refresher on leash manners, but he's smart and I think he'll learn quickly. He's so friendly! He wanted to be pet by every person we saw.

We had a great time hiking and exploring together. He's going to make someone an awesome adventure buddy!”

Jolly is estimated to be about 2 years old and around 70lbs. This low riding meatball has nothing but love to give! He likes to go for long walks and romp around in the play yard with a ball to play with. He doesn’t appear to mind other pups outside his kennel. He loves every human he meets. He would love kiddos, but he is a big boy and doesn’t realize it!

This boy is ready to find his forever! He is the sweetest big boy you could ever meet. He would really like to bring in the new year with his new family! Come meet this boy ASAP!

Our dog of the week and longest resident, Max, has found himself back at the pound. Circumstances in his foster home changed, and they could no longer keep him💔. He's so sad😭. He's breaking our hearts.

If you are unfamiliar with his story, Max was left at a vet by his owner when they could no longer care for him. His world was turned upside down, and he lost the only home he'd ever known. Now more than ever Max needs a hero. He needs someone to show up for him, be there for him, and promise to love him forever. He is desperate for stability with all the uncertainty he's gone through.

Max is 4 years old, a solid 70 lbs., and already neutered.

Here is what we learned about him in his foster home:

•housebroken
•loves to play with his toys
•well behaved when home alone
•loves sticks and will carry them everywhere he can
•knows sit, stay, and wait
•so very gentle when taking treats
•running in the yard to burn energy is one of his favorite things to do
•doesn't mind getting his nails trimmed
•biggest lover ever and so affectionate
•will chase cats
•a home with older kids would be best (he doesn't always know his size)
•loves his enrichment activities
•dog friendly (meet always required)
•best copilot 🚗
•does well with routine and catches on quickly

Max is a very good boy. He's been through a lot, and he deserves so much more. There's got to be someone out there who can give him a chance. Right?? If you are looking to add to your family, please don't pass him by! -Wendi

Good night sweet Jolly. This is how you will find him whenever he hears you. He is such a sweet, gentle soul. He’s a big baby and a pure love bug. His heart is the biggest part of him ♥️♥️ He will cry in his kennel for someone to get him out. He hates being in there all alone. All he wants is to be with you!!

Jolly is thought to be 2 yrs old and 70 lbs. He is happiest when he’s with you. You get full body and tail wiggles. He gives the best hugs and is so excited to meet everyone! He LOVES people!! He doesn’t seem to mind other dogs, meet and greet required. He loves to go in the play yard and romp around with the jolly balls. The pure joy in his face and eyes make it so much harder to put him back in his kennel 😭

Please share this handsome boy and let’s get him into his forever home! Get your app in now to meet him and fall in love with this lover like we all have!- Tiffany

💔💔💔

Phoenix is SHOCKED he hasn't had any applications. We are, too, sweet boy💔.

Phoenix has been struggling with kennel life since day 1. He's a young, energetic guy who just wants to be in a home and with his people. Is that too much to ask? We don't think so....

**Phoenix appears to be a pointer mix. He is estimated at 2 years old (could definitely be younger!), and he weighs just 53 lbs. He's now neutered and fully vetted. Phoenix loves exploring on his walks, knows some of his basic commands, and he is treat motivated. He's a playful, friendly, sweet, and very smart boy! Phoenix appears dog friendly as well (meet required).**

The pound is full, and Phoenix is desperate for someone to notice him and give him a chance. Being cooped up 23+ hours a day is just no good for him. He's having a really tough time😭. Please get your application in as soon as possible. -Wendi

Good night Phoenix. This normally happy boy is so sad in his kennel. He has the most gorgeous, soulful eyes- normally lit up with joy, now so very full of concern. He hates being cooped up and all alone. He just got neutered last week and fully vetted- unfortunately he is recovering in the pound instead of a warm, comfy home 💔 He has a little coat on to try and make him feel a little better, but what he would love is for a family to pick him for their new family member!

Phoenix is thought to be a pointer mix estimated at 2 yrs old and 53 lbs. Outside of his kennel he can hardly contain his happiness. He loves people so much and shows you with his full body wiggles. He knows some basic commands and is treat motivated! He has met other dogs and done well( meet and greet required). He loves a good game of fetch and is playful. But also just wants all your love and pets 🥹 what more could you ask for?

Get your app in now for this precious boy and let’s find him a home!💕- Tiffany
