This is a county facility. The staff are not allowed by law to refuse any incoming stray dog. (THEY ARE, HOWEVER, ALLOWED TO REFUSE OWNER TURN INS when the pound is FULL.) Therefore space is always a huge concern, if the number of incoming exceeds available kennel runs. A stray/lost dog must be kept for 72 business hours to allow time for an owner to locate their pet. An "owner-turn-in" is not lost, and therefore does not have to be kept for any length of time, although all efforts are made to avoid euthanasia. Rescue volunteers try to get as many dogs as possible out to RESCUES, both local, around the state, and around the country, and to spark public interest in ADOPTIONS. This is a former gassing facility, which switched to euthanasia by injection (spring/summer 2011). *UPDATE: THE VERY VERY RARE EUTHANASIA IS NOW ONLY DONE AT THE VET.*

Adoption Fee: $50 (includes Microchip)
Dog License: $18
Mandatory Spay/Neuter Contract with every dog adopted/rescued. Microchipping available to public: $25

Check out the Foster to Adopt option, which allows a dog to go home with you for up to 3 weeks, to see if it is a good fit for your family and home. The pound accepts payment in cash or by personal check. It does not have capability to accept credit or debit cards.
