The Volunteers of The Trumbull County Pound and Community CREATED/MAINTAINED by VOLUNTEERS. This FB page is created to help the dogs of this county...dogs IN the pound, and dogs trying to stay OUT of the pound.

THE VOLUNTEERS of the TRUMBULL CO POUND & COMMUNITY is a 'NON-PROFIT', but not a 501c3 tax exempt. ALL donations go towards the care of pound and community animals in need of immediate medical care. We also help people in the community who need emergency help to care for their pets, or for strays found in need in the community.
** WE NEE

D YOUR HELP ** - The Volunteers of the Trumbull Co Pound & Community regularly are called on to take pound dogs with medical needs to the vet. We have HUGE vet bills because of this. We operate on Donations and proceeds from Fundraisers. Any donations given directly to the Animal Medical Care Center in Niles 330-652-0400 (POUND RESCUE Acct # 21159), are greatly appreciated! Join us in helping to care for the animals in our community....in and out of the pound. Our Community is US! WE ARE THE COMMUNITY! DOG WALKERS NEEDED!!!!! Address:

This is a county facility. The staff are not allowed by law to refuse any incoming stray dog. (THEY ARE, HOWEVER, ALLOWED TO REFUSE OWNER TURN INS when the pound is FULL.) Therefore space is always a huge concern, if the number of incoming exceeds available kennel runs. A stray/lost dog must be kept for 72 business hours to allow time for an owner to locate their pet. An "owner-turn-in" is not lost, and therefore does not have to be kept for any length of time, although all efforts are made to avoid euthanasia. Rescue volunteers try to get as many dogs as possible out to RESCUES, both local, around the state, and around the country, and to spark public interest in ADOPTIONS. This is a former gassing facility, which switched to euthanasia by injection (spring/summer 2011). *UPDATE: THE VERY VERY RARE EUTHANASIA IS NOW ONLY DONE AT THE VET.*

Adoption Fee: $50 (includes Microchip)
Dog License: $18
Mandatory Spay/Neuter Contract with every dog adopted/rescued. Microchipping available to public: $25

Check out the Foster to Adopt option, which allows a dog to go home with you for up to 3 weeks, to see if it is a good fit for your family and home. The pound accepts payment in cash or by personal check. It does not have capability to accept credit or debit cards.

Phoenix is SHOCKED he hasn't had any applications. We are, too, sweet boy💔.

Phoenix has been struggling with kennel life since day 1. He's a young, energetic guy who just wants to be in a home and with his people. Is that too much to ask? We don't think so....

**Phoenix appears to be a pointer mix. He is estimated at 2 years old (could definitely be younger!), and he weighs just 53 lbs. He's now neutered and fully vetted. Phoenix loves exploring on his walks, knows some of his basic commands, and he is treat motivated. He's a playful, friendly, sweet, and very smart boy! Phoenix appears dog friendly as well (meet required).**

The pound is full, and Phoenix is desperate for someone to notice him and give him a chance. Being cooped up 23+ hours a day is just no good for him. He's having a really tough time😭. Please get your application in as soon as possible. -Wendi

Good night Phoenix. This normally happy boy is so sad in his kennel. He has the most gorgeous, soulful eyes- normally lit up with joy, now so very full of concern. He hates being cooped up and all alone. He just got neutered last week and fully vetted- unfortunately he is recovering in the pound instead of a warm, comfy home 💔 He has a little coat on to try and make him feel a little better, but what he would love is for a family to pick him for their new family member!

Phoenix is thought to be a pointer mix estimated at 2 yrs old and 53 lbs. Outside of his kennel he can hardly contain his happiness. He loves people so much and shows you with his full body wiggles. He knows some basic commands and is treat motivated! He has met other dogs and done well( meet and greet required). He loves a good game of fetch and is playful. But also just wants all your love and pets 🥹 what more could you ask for?

Get your app in now for this precious boy and let’s find him a home!💕- Tiffany

Pac-man is still waiting and his heart is broken 💔

This boy is absolutely PERFECT! He went on a day trip this week and volunteers had absolutely nothing but AMAZING things to say about him! He got to go shopping for toys, but all he cared about was meeting all the people. He wants pets from absolutely everyone he met. He was amazing with kids and wanted to see all the dogs on his walk!

Pac-man is just a young boy at about a year old. He’s the perfect size too weighing about 45lbs. He appears to be a boxer/terrier mix. He loves adventures and truly just being surrounded by his people. He is highly treat motivated. He knows all basic commands and walks so well on a leash. he just wants a family that will love him forever!

Pac-man will break your heart when you are walking out the door for the day. He is the last one you see and his eyes beg you not to go! Let’s not make this boy wait another minute!!!

Please complete your application today 🤗

😭 🐾 In about 4-12 weeks, we are going to be seeing the "We need to re-home our pet" posts. These are the folks who purchased puppies / kittens as Christmas gifts who are suddenly allergic, moving, having a baby, don't have time, their kids won't take care of it, didn't think they'd get so big (etc...).
To those people I say🔳
You didn't know you had an allergy? Oops. Don't let the pet suffer. Get allergy medicine.
You're moving? What city are you moving to that doesn't allow dogs? Bullcrapville? Find a house / apartment / condo that will ALLOW your family member. Period.
Oh... you had NO idea you were due to have a baby in 2 months? Interesting. Get a dog trainer.
Don't have time for ONE 15 min walk or to have a dog just sit next to you while you're home? Really? So they're better off in a shelter than waiting in your house for you to get home? Ok... get another dog to keep them company.
Oh... you mean your 5 year old didn't step up to the plate to feed, walk and scoop p**p? And this surprised you? I guess it's time for YOU to step up and model responsibility for your child.
Wrong size? Not cute as an adult? Not quite the personality you expected? Look in a mirror. How'd YOU turn out? Should we send you back?
😡
Sigh.... sorry.
But these are the excuses (among others) that rescuers hear after the "new puppy" excitement wears off and they need the pet out ASAP. Well... guess who suffers? Shelters are FULL... rescues are FULL... if you take responsibility for an animal, that is a lifetime commitment and if you are the 1% who actually has a good reason for not being able to keep this commitment and you MUST re-home the animal (life threatening allergy etc...) then PLEASE keep it and care for it until a no kill rescue has room or until you research / find a BETTER home than you were.
Thank you.
(Steps off soap box)

Phoenix is already struggling💔. He'll reach his little paws out of his kennel to try and pull you closer to him, begging you not to leave him😔. Being cooped up in his kennel for so long every single day is just not good for him. He's a young, energetic pup who should be running, playing, and snuggling with his family, not all alone 23+ hours a day..

This beautiful boy appears to be a pointer mix. He is estimated at 2 years old (could definitely be younger!), and he weighs just 53 lbs. Phoenix loves exploring on his walks, enjoys a good game of fetch, knows some of his basic commands, and he is treat motivated. He's just a playful, friendly, sweet boy who is wondering how he ended up in such a scary place. Phoenix doesn't mind his neighbors either, but a meet and greet with your resident dog is always required.

The pound is full, and Phoenix is desperate for someone to notice him and give him a chance💔. Rescues and adopters are desperately needed ASAP! -Wendi

Polar is popping by to see if anyone has put in an application for him yet! How can you look at this happy, perfect face and not instantly fall in love?? 💙

Polar's name is so fitting! I mean😍. He's a big, white, fluffy, cuddly bear! Polar is an akita (mix?), estimated at 2 or 3 years old, and weighing 67 wonderful pounds. Polar walks well on a leash after his initial burst of excitement, knows some of his basic commands, loves treats, and just loves LOVE! He appears dog friendly as well (meet always required).

The pound is overflowing💔. Polar is already not happy with the kennel life, and I can't really blame him. Get your application in ASAP for this perfect boy! He needs you! -Wendi

Pacman is getting overlooked😔. He's a quiet pup, and you'll miss him in his kennel if you don't know he's there. I've never heard him make a peep. He just watches, waits, and wags his tail as the world passes him by...

This sweet boy is just a pint-sized little cutie🧡. He's estimated at around 1 year old and only weighs about 45 lbs. Pacman has great leash manners, knows some of his basic commands, and loves people. He cries for his friends when he sees them on his walks and has met multiple dogs, and he's done great each time (meet always required).

The pound is very full💔. Pacman is a friendly, sweet, gentle boy looking for a fresh start. He will fit in with most any family, so get your application in as soon as possible. He would love more than anything to be safe in his forever home for the holidays. -Wendi

💫DOG OF THE WEEK💫

Buffy has found herself to be the longest female resident at an overflowing county pound, and she is just a baby💔.

Buffy is maybe 10 months old, and she weighs just 40 lbs. She has great leash manners, knows some of her basic commands, loves yummy treats, adores everyone she meets, and appears dog friendly (meet required).

Unfortunately, Buffy is becoming very stressed in her kennel. Who can blame her, though? She's in there 23+ hours a day. She's very excited when you get her out of her kennel. She wants to jump, run, and play. She's just a puppy with energy to burn. She settles nicely once away from the noise and stress when out for our walks, though. Being cooped up at the pound is just too much for her😔.

If you are looking to add to your family, you NEED to meet this sweet girl. She just needs someone to give her a real chance! -Wendi

Banshee needs a HERO😭 He is begging for someone to rescue him!! This sweet boy absolutely hates kennel life. It’s really taking a toll on him, both mentally and physically. He is so stressed out and is losing a bit of weight. His beautiful coat is starting to look a mess. This precious boy knows what it’s like to have a home and just wants that back- who can blame him??

Banshee is a middle aged boy estimated at 5 yrs old and 58 lbs. He walks amazing on a leash and knows basic commands. He loves everyone he meets and will just keep coming back for lots more pets when he’s out of his kennel. He dreads going back and will put the brakes on when trying to get him in his kennel. He knows the routine but he hates it. He hates being alone in there for 23+ hrs.

Banshee really needs your help! ♥️ Please share this perfect boy and let’s get him out of the pound! As always a meet and greet required with resident dog. - Tiffany

💔No one ever came forward for this handsome boy. We all know that German Shepherds do NOT do well in the kennel environment. Jethro unfortunately is no exception. He is struggling already. He is terrified in his kennel. He will venture to take treats from you. But will retreat when you try to get him out for a walk 😭

This precious boy is estimated at 2 yrs old and 67 lbs. He doesn’t seem to mind the other dogs but as always a meet and greet is required. He’s starting to trust little by little. He will need time and patience to feel safe again. Breed experience preferably.

Please share this beautiful boy and let’s get him into a home! - Tiffany

📌The Trumbull County Pound will be CLOSED THIS THURSDAY, FRIDAY & SATURDAY in honor of the holiday.

They will reopen on Monday regular business hours, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

🐾💗THANKSGIVING is the one time of year that we actively look at our lives and express appreciation for the things we too often take for granted. This Thanksgiving, let's remember to honor our pets and the many things they do to make our lives better. Here are 9 reasons to be thankful for your pet this Thanksgiving:
1. Dogs are ALWAYS there for us with unconditional love.
2. They make us laugh with their silly personalities.
3. Dogs protect our homes and family.
4. They keep you healthy. Having a pet can lead to lower blood pressure & a healthier heart through their ability to relieve stress & improve mood.
5. Our dogs keep us calm and happy.
6. They make us feel needed.
7. Dogs are a lot of company.
8. Keep us warm during the cold winters.
9. Our dogs encourage us to exercise.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your Families!
