In case your wondering how & why I became the Veterinarian I am…the really really really short version…
I was born and raised here, in Palm Beach County. I went to elementary school at South Olive Elementary and graduated from Forest Hill High School Class of 91. I attended Palm Beach Community College, University of South Florida, Barry University, and finally Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2005…I moved to New York City and completed a rotating Medical and Surgical Internship at BluePearl Veterinary Specialists in 2007, employed by one of the largest privately owned veterinary practices in New York State , put my life savings and nearly a million dollars into owning two of my own practices…still in the building process…(one never opened, the other only 10 days) …that were BOTH destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and I lost everything. Had to evacuate, couldn’t practice in any other state but NY.
I found Chi University in Reddick, FL where over the next 12 years learned and became certified in Spinal Manipulation, Food Therapy, Acupuncture, Tui-na, Palliative & End of LIfe Care, and have learned extensively about fear in pets and now lead a complete Fear Free Practice as an “Elite Fear Free Certified Veterinarian”.
In 2014, I was still fighting with insurance since the loss of both of my practices and decided to return to Palm Beach County. I had nothing left in New York…my fire extinguished.
Since returning, I have worked as a relief doctor, an associate being misled into a promise of the potential of ownership, a Chief of Staff that was reprimanded and written up several times that I wasn’t meeting ‘quota’ and that I needed to “ sell” more, because I chose good medicine over overcharging with irrelevant testing. Finally fired because I wasn’t euthanizing the animals…what? Long story short: I do NOT perform ‘ convenience euthanasias’.
I quickly became sickened by where veterinary medicine has gone…THAT was my fire…Ignition! 🔥 .
I started my practice I have today…one single room at a time…one patient at a time…no staff…no other patients in the building …no waiting…one on one with only the doctor and patient.
My practice IS different, I have an AMAZING relationship with each of my clients as there is an understood respect both ways of open communication for the benefit of the patient…always. I refuse to have it any other way…a disrespectful client is a fired client.
Life is too short to be disrespected, rushed or made to wait.
This blog was written a few years ago and was my founding philosophy…that I still continue to practice daily.
First and foremost…transparency. I pride myself on honesty and trust…it goes both ways..client to doctor and vice versa. My practice is NOT owned by a big corporation that hides behind the scenes and dictates how I pract...
