In September 2023, William Gray of Sumter County, SC, gunned down Annabelle, a hound belonging to Ernest “Burt” Causey.

Burt would rather have his dog back than any amount of money—but this month, a South Carolina judge sent a clear message: if you shoot someone’s dog, you will pay the price.

• Value of Annabelle (hound): $22,000
• Punitive Damages: $110,000
👉 Total Judgment: $132,000

The judge noted that Gray’s actions showed a clear disregard for the rights and well-being of others.

A story from our archives. We got him, he got punished.

“I remember when this went down. I was dropping off relief for the gate guards when he bragged about what he did.

I told him he was a piece of trash and was about to find out. Sure enough, just a few days later, the SNCOIC of PMO, Master Sgt Shoulders, was busting his ass.

Not long after, Onslow County and NCIS had him in cuffs and shoving him into a cop car.

Justice caught up quick.”
