Pigeons As Pets Rescue

Due to ongoing health issues and being at capacity with rescues, I am unable to take in any pigeons at this time. Please understand.

The Palomacy Help Group for Pigeon & Dove Rescue & Adoption is at your disposal to help network to find help for found pigeons who need help. Please post there and add pictures. They are great at what they do!

And as a side note, I've had several people threaten to release birds they've "rescued" because I can't take them. This may be uncomfortable to hear, but if you release a domestic or injured feral pigeon back to the wild, YOU are 100% responsible for that animal's death. YOU, not me. If you are unable to actually help an animal, then please don't pretend to care and then just release it when it becomes inconvenient for you. Would you do that with a dog? Especially a starving, injured dog? If you would, you'd be an awful person.

Same goes for pigeons. Find it help or don't. Stop depending on the first and only rescue you contact to be able to help. That's pure laziness.

I'm just calling it like I see it.

The pigeon room in my home needs some upgrades so I can resume taking in birds that need help, and of course, my current fosters always need feed. Any small amount helps! 💜💚🕊️

Alternative methods of donation can also be used! I have PayPal () and Venmo (). (Last four digits of my phone number may be needed to send a donation - they are 1874.) I am saddened to make this post, but I have to do what's best for me and the birds currently in my care. Due to ongoing health issues, I will not be able to take in any more pigeons, and this may be for a considerable amount of time.

If you have a pigeon that needs a home, please join the Palomacy Help Group to network to find help. Make sure to include your location and a photo in your post. This amazing group of individuals who volunteer their time are excellent at doing what they do.

Baby season is upon us, and in addition to raising orphaned and injured baby pigeons, I (Emily) also raise baby wild mourning doves for the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia. I use the same formula as I do for the pigeons. These precious little ones are released back into the wild once they're weaned and acclimated to the outdoors. By donating baby bird formula, you're also helping save wild birds!

Please understand that I am a one-person rescue and in order to do that, I work two jobs at almost 50 hours per week.

I will respond to phone calls, texts, and messages as I am able to. Please don't freak out if you don't get a response right away. Pigeons As Pets Rescue is my hobby, not my full-time job.

The first rescue of 2023 is this gorgeous, all-white racing pigeon. This fellow (I guess) found himself very far from his home loft which is located near Washington, D.C. He ended up hanging out at a Dollar General where the extremely kind-hearted employees took care of him for about 8 days. They kept him fed, watered, warm, and safe. (I'm pretty sure he thought he owned the place by the way he looked when I arrived to catch him!) It took a little patience, but eventually I was able to get him lured into a carrier with some yummy, high-fat seeds. The staff named him Midnight, and I'll keep that name. Midnight has been started on treatments for lice, coccidia, worms, and trichomoniasis, which are standard treatments for all pigeons that come into my rescue. After those are complete, he'll be ready for adoption into a loving, indoor-only home!

This beautiful former racing pigeon came in through the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia and was adopted SO FAST by an adorable little girl, she never even made it into Pigeons As Pets Rescue. 😂 Now she's going to be spreading the Good Pigeon News! It's so important that people see how incredible these birds actually are.

2021 was a busy year for PAPR! Here's a snapshot of all of the birds helped this past year. The year's total is 18, but my all-time total (since 2017) is 60. 🙂 Not too bad!

Of course, I couldn't do any of this without the support of generous, animal-loving people. My most heartfelt thanks go out to all of you!
