Happy 8th Birthday Aleksei Vasiliy (aka Baby)! 👑 🥳 😻

Today is our golden classic tabby Siberian's eighth birthday! Baby Aleksei is a very sweet and loving, gorgeous boy with a deep, loud purr that rumbles through the house like a freight train, complete with the squeaks and clanks that you hear when a train goes by. Even though he is built like a tank, his favorite thing to do is to climb up onto our laps for a nice long chin and cheek rub. He purrs and rumbles the whole time that he is on our lap.

Today, I would like to share my favorite video of Baby, as a tiny kitten, chasing his own tail. This video always makes me smile. 😁

Happy Birthday Baby! We love you! ❤

Happy 8th Birthday Nikolai Zinoviy! 🥳 😻 🤩Happy 8th birthday to our oldest Siberian, CFA Grand Premier Nikolai Zinoviy! ...

Happy 8th Birthday Nikolai Zinoviy! 🥳 😻 🤩

Happy 8th birthday to our oldest Siberian, CFA Grand Premier Nikolai Zinoviy! Nikolai is a stunning cameo (CFA), red silver (TICA) mackerel tabby Siberian who loves to play with snow, ice, and water; hop into the refrigerator for some nice cool air; climb and jump as high as possible; and run around screaming in fits of drama.

If you have a Siberian, you know that they truly do take 5 years to fully mature. With cameo (red silver) Siberians, those years can be difficult. Cameo Siberians start out as “ugly ducklings” and because of this, they are most often the last to be chosen in their litters. This was true with Nikolai as he was the only kitten that was not chosen by his forever family. I knew that Nikolai was going to be absolutely stunning when he grew up and I chose him the same day that I saw him. However, Nikolai’s cat show career had a very rocky start. For the first few years, we were told that he was not red silver (that he was cream or cream silver); that he was not a tabby (that he was smoke or shaded); that his coat was defective (which resulted in voluntary removal from at least one judging ring before he was disqualified) because he was in fact a cameo (red silver) but the judge didn’t believe it; that cameo Siberians should not be show cats (because they are an unusual color - which is completely traditional and definitely allowed) and so much more. As a result of all of this drama, we had Nikolai DNA tested twice, and the results came back that he is, in fact, a cameo (red silver) and he is, in fact, a mackerel tabby.

Nikolai did very well at cat shows as a young Siberian despite all of the drama. His defining moment didn’t happen until he was at a cat show when he was three years old though. A very knowledgeable and well-respected judge chose Nikolai to win an award in his judging ring. The judge had seen Nikolai several times over the previous three years, so he knew the drama that we had gone through. This judge held Nikolai up high for everyone in the audience to see and said “This is exactly what a cameo Siberian should look like! He’s perfect!” and then he described many of Nikolai’s features and explained what cameo Siberians go through when they are maturing. At the end of his explanation, he looked at me, smiled, and said “Finally!”

Nikolai was CFA’s Best Siberian in Premiership in the Great Lakes Region for the 2017-2018 cat show season. He was CFA’s 2nd Best Siberian in Premiership in the Great Lakes Region for the 2016-2017 and 2015-2016 cat show seasons. At the 2018 CFA International Cat Show, Nikolai was the Second Best Siberian in Premiership (which is the competitive category for all pedigreed breeds of spayed/neutered cats in CFA). Nikolai earned his CFA Grand Premier title during the first 3 cat shows that he ever attended, which was very unusual and a huge accomplishment. Nikolai was retired from cat shows after the 2018 CFA International Show because he liked cat shows, but he didn’t love them.

Happy Birthday to our stunning “swan”, our sweet Nikolai Zinoviy! ❤️

Happy 4th Birthday Queen Enya Thea! 👑

It has been an amazing year for Queen Enya! She has gone through so many positive changes since she was spayed a little over a year ago! She is now a happy, healthy, playful, cuddly, fluffy girl who is definitely back to her mischievous self. She now weighs 12 pounds, which is almost double her weight before she was spayed. She has physically grown into a good-sized girl with a healthy Siberian body and gorgeous, fluffy coat. She is playing fetch and catch again, playing with toys, hopping into our laps, helping with chores, trilling, chirping, and finding joy in everything and everyone around her.

Queen Enya has started playing “Marco Polo” with one of our other Siberians, Nikolai. One of them will hide and then start loudly calling for the other one to come find them. The other one will call back until they find each other and then they chase each other through the house at top speed until they are tired out. It always makes me smile to see (and hear!) them both playing this game because it shows how happy Queen Enya really is and how much her quality of life has improved.

We are very thankful to Queen Enya and our good friends at Kings Choice Siberians for giving us the opportunity to be Siberian breeders, if only for a short time. Queen Enya blessed us with ten kittens in two separate litters (over two different years) and those kittens are brightening the lives of many people. We kept one of Queen Enya’s babies and she is a wonderful addition to our family. We are also very thankful for the awesome families who welcomed Queen Enya’s kittens into their homes. Those families are providing loving, safe, engaging, happy, healthy homes for Enya’s sweet babies and we couldn’t ask for anything more.

Queen Enya is now retired from breeding, but she will always be a queen to us. She is already carrying her dignity and grace with her into this new chapter of her life. We are very excited to see Queen Enya finally develop into her true self and watch her majesty blossom over the next several years.

Happy Birthday Queen Enya Thea! We love you! 🧡🤍🖤

For the last month of our 2022 Siberian Cat Calendar, December, our very handsome meowdel, Nikolai Zinoviy, is "attending" the Great Dragon Parade in Poland. Nikolai preferred to wear his dragon face over his eyes, instead of above his eyes, for this photo. 😁 💙 😻

p.s. We gave this dragon costume to a friend's dog and he wore it for Halloween, to the delight of many trick-or-treaters. 🎃

Happy 5th Birthday Icelyn Omega! 👑

Today is Icelyn Omega's fifth birthday! Icelyn is our beautiful silver torbie (with white) Siberian female from Poland. She has gorgeous green eyes that sparkle like gems and a very fluffy coat! 💚

Since Siberians are cold-weather cats, we have "fresh air time" every day, where we open the windows and the front door, no matter what the weather is like. Icelyn is the first cat to run to the screen door and the last to leave. For her birthday, the door and windows were left open an extra long time and the house filled with crisp, cold air. Icelyn was also given the gift of a beautiful morning snowfall to enjoy on her birthday while the windows and doors were open. Puurrrfect! ❄️

Happy Birthday Icelyn Omega! We love you! ❤️

Supporters and friends of Winter Kot Siberians are wondering why I have replaced images of Queen Enya Thea with images of Persephone Hope on all of our branding, website main page, and social media accounts. The short answer is that it's Persephone's turn to be the "star" and to shine brightly. She definitely deserves it. 🌟

The long answer is that Queen Enya Thea is an absolutely stunning (and very rare) smoke tortoiseshell Siberian (who is the Queen after all). As the "face" of Winter Kot Siberians and the mama of sweet, beautiful, unique kittens, she is the one that is noticed, discussed, commented on, etc. the most. Many people have told me that Queen Enya is the most beautiful cat that they have ever seen. Wow! 👑

People are worried that Queen Enya is ill. She is not ill. Queen Enya is actually the happiest, sweetest, and healthiest that she has ever been, and for that we are very thankful. 😻

Persephone Hope is one of Queen Enya's kittens that has lived in Queen Enya's shadow for over two years now. She is a gorgeous classic patched tabby (torbie) that already exceeds all of the Siberian standards for perfection, even at only two years of age. Persephone is literally my dream cat, a once-in-a-lifetime kitten that I have waited my whole life for, and she was born in my home to another once-in-a lifetime cat, Queen Enya. Persephone is the most beautiful torbie that I have ever seen. She also has a very unique and wonderful classic tabby pattern mixed in with all of her stunning colors. 😮

We are so very blessed to have both Queen Enya Thea and Persephone Hope in our lives. Thank you again to NH Siberian Cats at Kings Choice Siberians for allowing us to welcome Queen Enya Thea (who is truly a rare gem) into our home. Queen Enya gave me my dream cat, Persephone Hope, and now we have two rare treasures to love. 💖

04/10/2022

Our decision to not ship our fundraiser products this year has already upset and disappointed several people and this is only the second day of the fundraiser. We apologize to everyone who would like to purchase a painting, but cannot do so because of their (or our) location. I will further explain what led to the decision of not shipping the paintings, while trying to keep this as short as possible.

1. Winter Kot Siberians is not a business, it's a hobby. We don't have a shipping department or access to hundreds of free packing/shipping supplies. We purchase all of the packing and shipping supplies with our personal money every year for these fundraisers and pack/ship/deliver everything on our personal time using our personal vehicles.

2. Shipping costs are very high. Winter Kot Siberians spends a lot of our personal money on shipping fees for the fundraiser products because, if we charged the actual shipping fees, nobody would buy the products. We pay part of the shipping fees for every single fundraiser item that we sell, every single year, with our personal money.

3. Packing and shipping paintings is very complicated and expensive. It requires specialty products to protect the paintings, a lot of extra packing materials, and specialized methods of shipment (including temperature control). We have purchased the products to protect the paintings during transit for in-person delivery, again with our personal money, but we are not able to pack and ship them with a shipping company.

4. These are original acrylic paintings on canvas that was stretched around a wooden frame. They cannot be rolled for shipping. They are fragile. They would have to be shipped flat and protected, and therein lies the problem.

5. Every year some of the fundraiser products get lost or damaged during shipment, which means that Winter Kot Siberians needs to replace and ship that lost or damaged item with our own personal money every time this happens. We do not want to take money away from the shelter animals because the shipping company messed up, so we pay for it.

6. These paintings took two months to create, are all original paintings, and cannot be replaced. If they are lost or damaged in transit, there is no way to replace them. Again, money will have to be refunded, using our personal money, and the person who purchased the painting will probably be upset.

7. Winter Kot Siberians has decided that the risks of shipping the paintings outweigh the benefits. The money that we will spend to pack, ship, and potentially refund the cost of the paintings would be better used as a donation to the animal shelter.

8. We do this every year simply because we love animals and we want to make a difference in their lives. We donate 100% of the money that we raise every single year and we add in an additional donation of our own personal money every single year.

9. If our paintings do not sell because of this "no shipping" decision and this year's fundraiser turns out to be a waste of two months of work, Winter Kot Siberians has a monetary donation amount in mind and we are prepared to personally donate whatever is necessary to give the shelter that amount in November.

If you are in the Western New York, Finger Lakes Region, or Central New York area (or can meet us in one of those areas), please consider participating in our fundraiser. If you cannot purchase a painting because of our shipping decision, buying a few raffle tickets or donating a few dollars to the shelter will also help the animals in need.

Thank you to the people who have already purchased paintings and raffle tickets! ❤️ This will most likely be our last fundraiser. Next year, we will just quietly make a donation to a shelter.

Happy 7th Birthday Aleksei Vasiliy! 👑 ❤

Today is our golden classic tabby Siberian's seventh birthday! ❤

Aleksei thought his name was "Baby" for the first several months. We would say "Oh baby, you are so bad!" softly to ourselves whenever he was naughty. Well, Aleksei heard that so much that he only would respond to "Baby" and he had no idea that his name was actually Aleksei. In order to teach him his actual name, we started to call him Baby Aleksei. He now knows that his name is Aleksei, but he seems to prefer Baby, and we are fine with that. 🙂

Happy Birthday Baby! We love you! ❤

If you have a Siberian cat or kitten, you know that they want to be a part of everything that we do. Yesterday, I decided to see what it would be like if Queen Enya Thea and Persephone Hope were given the opportunity to actually paint instead of just watching me paint. 🤔 I gave them tiny canvases covered with paint in a plastic bag. They used their nose, toes, and tongue to create these amazing tiny paintings! 😻 I will seal them in a few weeks and they will look even brighter. I think I may have found my idea for this years fundraiser for animal shelters and rescues. 🎨 What do you think?

p.s. Persephone made the top painting (her flowers). Enya made the bottom two paintings (her firestorm and her flowers). The bottom right painting has a magnet on the entire back of the canvas. I applied the paint to the canvas two different ways to get these different looks.

Important Announcement
July 2022

As many of you know, we have been taking a break from breeding kittens and Queen Enya is now doing wonderful after her spay surgery/recovery. What you may not know is that, over the past several years, we have welcomed three different Siberian females (one at a time) into our home with the intention of having a litter of kittens. During this time, we also had two neutered males in our home.

Before we welcomed any females, we asked several breeders if having our neutered males in the home would have a negative effect on the unspayed females (or the males). Every breeder said no, that the males would not make any difference, so we proceeded with our plan. Over the years, all three of the females ended up losing a lot of weight, losing most of their coats, and exhibiting negative behaviors due to very high levels of hormones and stress.

The first two females were spayed at a young age due to these issues. One of them had reproductive problems, in addition to the other issues, before she was spayed. Queen Enya was spayed after having two litters of kittens because her weight was dangerously low and she couldn’t gain anything, no matter what she ate, even after all of the kittens were weaned. After she was spayed, she gained over four pounds in less than six months.

We feel that the issues that our females were having were caused or exacerbated by having the neutered males in our home. The females just couldn’t understand why (or accept that) the males didn’t want to breed with them, and without getting into details, this caused a lot of constant stress for all of the cats and people in our household.

Having this happen to the first female could’ve been a fluke. The second time could have been a coincidence. But the third time was definitely a pattern, and we will not be repeating that pattern. We have decided to put all of our future breeding plans on hold indefinitely. We will not be rehoming any of our Siberians and we will not be welcoming any more females into our home while our males are there. Our males are both only seven years old, so it will be many years before we will even consider breeding kittens again.

All of our Siberians are now happy, healthy, loving, and mischievous cats who get along well and all hang out together. The girls gained weight, grew their coats back, and their negative behaviors are all gone. If you were hoping to welcome a Winter Kot Siberians kitten into your home sometime in the next few years, we apologize. We also were looking forward to kittens in the house at some point in the near future, but we take the health and happiness of our Siberians very seriously and we know that we have made the right decision.

Thank you to everyone who has welcomed one of Queen Enya's kittens into your home, your life, and your heart. ❤️ We will continue to offer our support to all kitten parents and are always available to answer questions or share Siberian tales. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you also to everyone who has supported us over the years. We appreciate you all! ❤️

Enya is still against posing for photos, but I managed to catch her peacefully thinking about, well... whatever cats think about, so I wanted to post an update. Since her spay surgery at the end of January, Enya has gained over 3.5 pounds! Wow! She now weighs over 10 pounds! 😮 It's so awesome to see her finally looking and acting like a true Siberian in weight, coat, and personality after several months of struggles with steadily losing weight and coat.

Enya is not a tiny female, and she is now the perfect weight for her frame and has the perfect Siberian body type. She is back to being a sweet, playful, chatty lap cat with an enthusiastic purr and a stunning long, flowing coat. 👑 While I do sometimes miss having kittens around the house, it truly warms my heart to see Enya doing so well and finally living her best life. 💖

As many of you know, we are taking a long break from cat shows and breeding kittens, which means that we don't have much to share right now. Remember, though, that we are always available to support all WKS kitten parents and are always happy to receive news or photos of the kittens. 😻

I will be sending out a request for kitten photos and updates soon so that I can create new photo galleries on our WKS website to share photos on the birthdays of the Firestorm Litter (late August) and the New Beginning Litter (early October). I know that there are many people who are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to see recent photos of the kittens/young cats, myself included of course. 😁

What is Enya thinking about? Post your ideas in the comments if you want to share.

p.s. Yes, we allow our cats to hang out on this table when we are not using it. We don't have air conditioning and there is a ceiling fan nearby. The table is completely empty so that we can clean it with disinfecting wipes every time immediately prior to using it.
