Many cats develop anxiety around their carriers because they only see them when it's time for the dreaded veterinary visit—an experience that’s never enjoyable from their perspective. To help reduce this stress, make the carrier a familiar and comforting part of your cat’s home environment.

Leave the carrier out so it no longer signals an impending trip. If using a kennel-style carrier, remove the door, line the interior with a soft towel so it can function as a comfy hideaway and napping spot. Gradually build positive associations by placing tasty treats nearby. Over time, leave treats closer until your cat is comfortable finding them inside the carrier.

This approach helps your cat view the carrier as a safe, inviting space rather than a source of stress, which will hopefully make future veterinary visits easier for both of you.

And back into my care as I have been caring for these two (and their two 🐾 rainbow 🌈 sisters Saki/Witty & Vaquita 💝) since 2016/2017 originally through a service I contracted with prior to accepting Christine’s co-ownership offer. Our last "kitty staycation" together was late '23, so I was beyond excited to care for them again when their parents asked last month 😻 This crew and their family are very special to me 💖 and I am delighted to share captures of these kittos from our time together going forward 💕💜🐾

I can't think of a nicer way to spend part of my Saturday! 😻

Snickerdoodles learned real quick the trick to sit on cue with the help of one of her favorite activities - eating snacks! 😻 I have been caring for her and her brother, Wylie, for a few years now, so she knows "sit" very well. This here is the first time she paired my usual term ("What do you do?") I use when working with dogs as a cute replacement for "sit". I was not intentionally using it, but rather, it just slipped out and to my surprise she sat to it! 🙀😺 So, here we are working on solidifying "What do you do?" 😺 Check back this evening for a VERY special share to ring in the weekend with extra-warm fuzzies that will make your heart purr with joy! ✨️💖😉🥰🐾💕✨️ ~ Catsitter Christina 🐾
