Upset dog stomachs are not fun! So be strong and committed to keeping your pooch healthy. This Is Bravo and his finely tuned pathetic "I'm starving" face. Did you know that our dogs sweat through the pads of their feet? These sweat glands are called mecocrine glands. If you see wet footprints on the pavement, this is an indication that your dog is sweating. Also, they release heat from their bodies by panting.
Always have fresh, cool water available for your dog as well as shade. Walk either in the morning or later afternoon/evening during the hot days of summer.
Bravo's getting the grill fired up and wishing everyone a "Happy 4th of July!!" Also, a word of caution about treating your dog this holiday weekend. PLEASE do not give your pets hot dogs. They are very high sodium and full of grease which will upset your dogs digestion system and your weekend. Stay safe and provide treats that are wholesome and safe.

Protect your dogs' feet after walking on the snowy or icy roads by wiping their paws free of road salts or de-icers when you get home. These products can be very corrosive to their tender pads.
A sure-fire way to exercise your dog in cold and snowy weather is to use his brain! If you burn up his mental capacity, he will have no energy left to get "cabin fever." Dogs love a task, they love to please us. Small chores like, walk with me (around the house), now stop suddenly and ask him to sit, down, stay! "Wow, what a good dog." Keep your games fun and lively. Smile, be child-like, your dog will love you and you'll will lose the winter blues, too! A Win-Win! Happy Monday.

Olivia and her puppy, Lucy, are learning to walk together using a "loose lead." A loose lead is not a type of leash but a technique for walking your dog successfully. A loose leash or lead means that the leash has no tension or tightness from owner to dog. When there is no tension on the leash, the walk goes smoothly and enjoyably for both owner and dog. Learning how to use a "loose lead" is the secret sauce to successful walks with your dog. You can learn how to walk your dog on a loose leash, also! This was Olivia's first lesson on how to go for a walk with Lucy. Olivia followed my instructions, applied the technique and succeeded! Time to celebrate her success! Olivia did an amazing job in under an hour to learn the correct technique. Learning and succeeding is very empowering at any age! Walking your dog on a leash is pure technique. Please do not come down hard on yourself if you have never learned the proper "walking technique." You, too, can be as successful as Olivia and Lucy.
