We're sorry to share some heartbreaking news with all of you. On December 10th, our Founder and Executive Director, Jane Pierantozzi, was injured in a hit-and-run accident while walking her beloved dog, Emma. Jane is currently hospitalized but in stable condition as she recovers from her injuries. Sadly, her dog Emma did not survive the accident.
Jane and Emma were struck on South Clayton Street near the intersection of South Clayton and Maple Streets in Wilmington. The driver fled the scene. According to the Wilmington Police Department, the striking vehicle is believed to be a tan minivan or full-sized SUV, which fled south on Clayton Street (traveling in the wrong direction) following the collision which occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Our entire organization is shocked and very saddened with the news of Jane's injury and the loss of Emma's life. We are thankful to have a strong and competent team who have banded together to continue our lifesaving work as Jane recovers.

update 12/21: Our founder and executive director, Jane, is still recovering from surgery on her leg. She has a long road ahead to heal from her physical injuries and the heartbreak from losing her beloved dog, Emma.
We are incredibly thankful Jane will be ok and we can’t thank all of you enough for the outpouring of love and support you’ve offered Jane and the entire FFAS team at this difficult time. Thank you!
We are passing your well wishes, words of encouragement, cards, and prayers for healing with Jane. She is feeling the love! She appreciates all the support everyone has provided.
Many of you have asked what else you can do to help Jane at this time. She is very grateful for the flowers and care packages she has received. At this time, she is kindly requesting that those who want to do something to show their support for her use those funds to instead help the animals at the shelter in Emma’s memory.
Sweet Emma was a lovable, spunky girl with a big heart. She loved the outdoors. Seeing her paws and beautiful white, curly fur covered in mud after an adventurous hike with Jane is a memory many of us treasure. Emma was a friend to everyone she met and loved unconditionally.
