REEListic Enrichment of the Week 😉🐾
Frozen Dinner w/ Topper
Supplies: Puzzle feeder or glass/silicone tupperware
Ingredients: Water, dinner (ours was kibble), topper (ours was pumpkin; options: PB, greek yogurt, cream cheese, etc)
Note: It takes 12+ hours for Toppls this full to freeze so do this the day before. It takes our resident dogs 10-40 min to finish these!
This is one of our favourite enrichment recipes as it is SO EASY and just as quick as our regular dinner prep. I have tried a few methods for kibble freezing and find that a 2-3 min pre-soak in water is has the best results. Alternative methods:
- KONG: You can fill with try kibble and run water through it. I find this a but wasteful but it is the quickest
- TOPPL: Plug the hole, fill with kibble, fill with water, freeze. You will fit way less kibble inside (which may be your goal) and end up with more ice. I like this method for “snacks” over full meals.

NEW SERIES: Realistic Enrichment & Nutrition
Keeping our pups happy & healthy doesn’t need to take up all of our free time or break the bank. At pAAk, we have learned from experience that you can buy the most expensive food, with the highest quality ingredients, and serve it in the most exciting way… and you may still end up with a bored dog with skin and tummy problems.
In this series, we will show you our go-to snack hacks that add nutritional benefit and mental enrichment, while making the most out of the ingredients you already have.
Big promises, hey? It took < 2 minutes to make the following snack for our 3 resident pups. Take a look! 🐾
PUMPKIN SOUP or STEW - 🎃 🍖🐐🦴
- Supplies: Food bowl(s) + Spoon / Frother
- Ingredients: Your dog’s food (kibble, raw), pumpkin (fresh, frozen, canned), goat milk (powdered, fresh, frozen), bone broth (optional; powdered, liquid)
- Benefit: Our resident paak are high energy breeds with an active lifestyle. Tuk and Juneau have been chronically dehydrated this summer, leading to UTI’s, vet visits, antibiotics, etc. All 3 have sensitive tummies and 2 have sensitive skin. We have been making them this “PUMPKIN SOUP” for lunch to encourage more liquid intake, as well as the following:
We supplement pumpkin for added fibre and probiotics (goat milk powder) as a digestive aid. This brand of bone broth supports skin, coat, digestion and immune system - We have been using it over the heat wave as an added electrolyte. Finally, water.
💧 💧 If hydration or mental stimulation is your goal: make SOUP.
🫃🏼💩 If digestive support is your main goal: make STEW.
Pro tip: Mix everything into the end of your pumpkin supply to utilize the ENTIRE can of pumpkin. Remove the label from the can (garbage) and then recycle your pumpkin can for a low waste lunch! ♻️
Our paak eats a nutritionally balanced kibble and all “snacks” are in addition to a vet-recommended diet. None of the ingredien
