As suspected, Pumpkin was be hesitant to load from a new location. She got over it with minimal assistance.
Now that she can ride in the car, her owners will continue to build confidence and security by driving her to positive experiences. Her training will accelerate, because they will be able to practice her skills in locations other than their immediate neighborhood. I am so proud of this team!
Pumpkin background:
Pumpkin was with her first owners until she was 10 months old, and reportedly never left their house: no neighborhood walks, no car rides; just their house and backyard. At 10 months of age, they turned her in to GR rescue. She was immediately adopted by this couple, who have owned multiple goldens over the years. When I met her, mid-April, we could not get her out the front door – – not even to the porch.
Real Socialization is SO IMPORTANT. Remediating Pumpkin's experience is taking patience and persistence. Using the scaffolding of her obedience training is helping her continue to navigate through and beyond her mental turmoil. Fortunately she has patient, dedicated owners who embrace the work.
Pumpkin has become very comfortable loading in her owners driveway. We drove about 3/4 of a mile away from her owners' house, because I suspected she would be hesitant to load from a different location. In the second video, she was hesitant, but got over it.

Pumpkin is a classic case of extreme undersocialization. Six-month-old Comet’s owners are on a business trip. They’ve done a great job on his leash training, but I’m complementing them on how well they have socialized him. Boy do I love seeing well-socialized pup!
Not a bad way to spend a Friday afternoon.

In November, Kodi was diagnosed with osteosarcoma; he had an estimated three weeks. Today we are celebrating his ninth birthday! (Mostly he is celebrating by staying out of the way of the hooligan girls.)
So you think you want a cattle dog...😂😂😂
This has been going on for 30 minutes, AFTER we did a four mile speed walk this morning. It will likely continue for 30 more. Everyone else is snoozing. Once she’s got this out of her system, she gets her Tuesday pedicure. (I’m no dummy!).
After weeks of leashed walking on paved surfaces, the trails are finally dry; Tinne is one happy dog.
“When do I know my dog is ready to be off leash?”
I have this conversation several times a month, so I decided to make a video.
