. Yesterday evening she got out and back to camp with Falkor! Falkor has been very helpful! When I was gone he pulled her up out of bed and helped her get to the restroom. Even let her hold onto him so she could sit down! This jerk dog surprises me sometimes! Love that boy! I’m already sick of Erika! So I moved her over to another campsite.🤷🏻‍♂️ We wave 👋 to each other from time to time! Lots of pain but still doing good! Thanks to Dr. Cook at @vitalhealthendometriosis this surgery was made possible. His 30 plus years of working with endometriosis is making a difference in so many women’s lives! . Was this ok, was it not? We definitely have some things stacking up that are not in our favor. This safe and normal environment has changed. We have new vehicles with engines running, we have tree equipment running and not only do we have humans walking along the fence line, but they have hard hats on. So what made the decision to still push forward with some off leash fun? Saint woke up happy. He woke up excited with a couple play bows. He was not on high alert. His engagement with me was going well in the house. And all the recall/fetch work we do. Me and my stupid little treat pouch was more valuable than those humans on the fence line. I think this is the first time I’ve put that much trust in Saint under the circumstances to make his own decisions. This is also the first time I’ve let him get this close to humans off leash. Play with your reactive dog. . No force, no fear, no shut down dog for a nail trim. . We hear this all the time “ I can’t cut my dogs nails, but when I take them to the groomer they are fine and calm with no issues”. When in reality there is a good chance your dog is NOT fine. Your dog is shut down and going through hell over this nail trim. . So here we have Saint trimming his own nails. He has all the AGENCY in the world during these sessions. You can also see how much he loves his little Tricks for Treats session. I think it would be ok to call this enrichment for him. What do you think? . Here at the Goon House Kennels we don’t have a fancy $400 dog training platforms. We have my creepy childhood rocking chair 🪑 that I have kept around for no reason at all and a Don’t Be A Dick skateboard deck. . This is my first time working on his back legs. It’s definitely worth a few good laughs. Especially when he goes over the chair, over the couch and his whole head goes straight into the treat pouch😂 What a jerk! But you will also see in a short amount of time he picks up how to get them treats! This session was maybe 10min. . Moral of the story, if your dog HATES nail trims and loves food. Don’t force them into a fearful situation. Buy or make a scratchboard and play Tricks for Treats with them. They will have fun. They will build confidence. . Happy “go say hi” Saturday for you fans of “go say hi” 🤷🏻‍♂️ . To practice on a real human we used his only other friend. She is only a friend when I am there so that I can keep an eye on his temperament. To help me feel better I felt this step was important before we bring Hotdog 🌭 lady over. . Working together to achieve goals is much more rewarding than demanding your dog to do things. Can’t demand your dog to meet humans if they don’t want to meet them all because you have a command to do so. That’s how you end up with a behavioral issue goon ball like Saint here. However, you can show your dog a trick or two that helps them anticipate a positive outcome from meeting someone new if they so please to do so. If they don’t work with your “go say hi” cue, Well they just aren’t ready or they still don’t understand this tricks for treats game. Check out that sweet stick human 😂😂
