Bud’s First Chance
“Buddy”
Buddy is my 19-year-old paint horse. I have owned Buddy since he was 5 years old. When I got him, he knew nothing. I trained Buddy from scratch. I had to train him myself because I ride with only 1 arm and 1 leg. Having my disability and riding horses is way different than anyone else. Only 1 other person has run Buddy in his life. I have put many hours of groundwork with him and I still do today. Yes he knows his jobs but I still refresh his mind every time I ride. Having a senior horse is a first time for me. I have learn that the older Buddy gets he has slowed down a little bit but he still gives me so much heart in and out of the arena. Buddy is trained in barrels and poles. I was going to train him to do breakaway but unfortunately he was abused by ropes when he was at training when he was a young gelding. So we stuck to barrels and poles. Buddy has a sweet personality but a spunky one when he knows its go time. He is definitely not a trail horse as he will side pass the entire way at a trot. Now that Buddy is getting older, I am way more OCD with him. He loves to get into everything, and I mean everything. You can’t leave anything out around him because he will be very curious. Buddy has a million miles on him and tons of places we have gone together. We have been to NBHA Worlds 3 times (2011,2013, &2018), FL State show 2012, all over FL races, and Texas for the APHA World Show 2021. He has won more money than I can count, a saddle, saddle pads, stable sheets, and huge title wins in Texas. Over the past 14 almost 15 years of racing buddy I have made it my duty to spoil him rotten and do whatever it takes to keep him looking and feeling his best. He has a great team behind him that we all love and support. My plan is to run him until he tells me he’s done. I hope to have many more wins under us before he retires.
