Nailing up a shoe with a 3D printed 2 degree wedge pad...unloading the heels moving more of the weight to the center of the frog, balancing to center of articulation.

Eventer and a multi champion in multiple disciplines. Now she's retired and she is the BEST farm, trail, sorting cows, all around pleasure horse for my farm and my daughter. 🤠🐎

Another glue on! Had a good bit of hoof repairs needed on this hoof so it just made sense to use the GlueShoe kit. I'm happy with it and the horse definitely is!

My Lil buddy Secret getting his feet fixed up. He's been battling some hoof wall separation (not white line disease). I chose to do glue on shoes with him for a few reasons 1) I didn't want to drive nails into compromised white line, 2) this particular shoe has a "medicine pad" that i can utilize to treat the white line. We clean out the impaction with peroxide, pack it with copper sulfate and a poultice pad then we shoe right over the top. The acrylics used to hold the shoe on seals the copper sulfate inside the impaction keeping it clean and free of dirt and debris speeding up the healing process by 75%. These shoes are durable, comfortable and therapeutic! He's loving them so far! 🤠🐎

Today we are going to discuss the importance of having a competent, experienced and educated farrier working on your horses.

Heel - if the heels are not adequate and are not trimmed properly to conformation causing caudel pain, you end up with increased or decreased tension of the DDFT (Deep Digital flexor tendon) depending on factors such as under run heels or negative HPA or broke back pastern. You also could have increased or decreased tension of the DDET (Dorsal Digital Extensor Tendon). Within that same frame work is the Third Interosseus Muscle aka Susp Lig as well as the Extensor Tendon.

Toe - If the toe is not correct and to much toe pressure with increased or decreased toe leverage, you end up with increased or decreased tension (depending on imbalance) DDFT, Susp ligament, Extensor branches of the Susp ligament, decreased or increased of the DDET, increased or decreased tension of the Impar ligament and the Collateral Sesamoidean ligament.

Lateral Qrtr - Increased or decreased tension of the Medial Collateral ligament of the DIP & PIP joint, Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP & PIP joint, Coffin joint surface on Lateral side, Medial Collateral Sesamoidean ligament.

Medial Qrtr - Increased or Decreased tension of the Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP & PIP joint, Medial Collateral ligament of the DIP and PIP joint, coffin joint surface on Medial side, Lateral Collateral sesamoidean ligament.

Lateral Toe - Increased or decreased tension of the Palmer Medial Collateral Ligament of the DIP joint, Dorsal Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Medial Collateral sesamoidean ligament.

Medial Heel - Increased or decreased tension of the Dorsla Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Palmer Medial Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Medial Collateral sesamoidean ligament.

Medial toe - Increased or decreased tension of the Palmer Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Dorsal Medial Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Lateral Collateral Sesamoidean ligament

Lateral Heel - increased or decreased tension of the Dorsal Medial Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Palmer Lateral Collateral ligament of the DIP joint, Lateral Collateral Sesamoidean ligament.

In conclusion, you can see that soft tissue and ligaments are what's at stake here, along with the cost of rehabilitation or worst case Euthanasia.
Why trust the health of your horse to an untrained or poorly educated farrier? It's just not worth it. Remember, ask questions and if you don't like the answers you get or you feel like you are not getting top quality podiatry, find someone else. Your horses quality of life means more than the cost of having to find a competent farrier.
Yes we are expensive, but how much do you care and love your horse?
