The Suwannee County Animal Shelter is calling on people across the Big Bend and South Georgia to consider stepping up to help foster or adopt from their shelter in the wake of Debby. Staff are still working hard, even though they are experiencing no power in hot and humid conditions.

PREPARE FOR THE STORM....First, bring your animals INSIDE. Do not leave them outdoors to fend for themselves in this storm. For those seeking shelter in the Wakulla area, Wakulla Animal Services and the American Red Cross set up a pet friendly shelter at Crawfordville Elementary School. Please make sure your pets are leashed, and if you have crates, please bring them. Also bring any supplies you feel like you will need for your animal. The shelter is now open and ready to receive you and your pets.

This is the sad truth of what is happening with shelters and rescues in our area and around the entire country right now. Please spay or neuter your pets, adopt rescue pets, commit to a lifetime of caring for those pets, and be responsible and kind. Pets give us unconditional love, and it's time we humans treated them the way they treat us....

Today is the big Tails & Trails event at City of Tallahassee - Animal Service Center. Even if you aren't participating in the event, please go to the local animal shelter and adopt a pet. The shelter took in over 100 animals in the past week, and they are overloaded. Perfectly healthy, sweet pets are available for adoption- and if people do not adopt soon, they will unfortunately likely not survive. Adopt a shelter pet and save a life...maybe even your own.
