Find Rico Rico was lost after a drunk driver hit a parked car in NE Portland. Rico was missing for several days, running in fear. WE LOVE YOU AND ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!!

The amazing community that is both social media and Portland helped us to find him, notifying of sightings until he was found. LOST DOG : Rico

A DRUNK DRIVER HIT MY PARKED CAR WITH MY DOG

JAN 5TH, 2013 ON CROSSTREETS OF N WILLIAMS & SHAVER IN PDX. WE FOUND MY DOG’S CRATE POPPED OPEN AND HE MADE IT OUT OF THE CAR BUT WAS LOST. HE WAS WEARING A GREEN PUPPIA HARNESS AND A BLACK AND WHITE JERSEY (SEE PICS BELOW)

DESCRIPTION:
• MIX: HALF YORKSHIRE TERRIER AND PART “MINI-REINDEER” (HIS OTHER HALF WE’RE NOT SURE OF BUT SEE PICTURES)
• FIT LIKE A LITTLE LANKY DEER
• HAS NORMAL TAN AND BLACK TERRIER COLORING
• 15 LBS.
• WAS WEARING A LIME GREEN PUPPIA HARNESS AND A BLACK AND WHITE FOOTBALL STYLE JERSEY DOG SHIRT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT

We promised them we would allow them to film the reunion after they shared so much about the story and even had a little tracker showing where Rico had been spotted.

It was ten years ago today that we first shared the story of Rico. His moms parked car was hit by a drunk driver going double the posted speed limit. Her car was destroyed and Rico was missing.
With the help of community (and this wonderful page), Rico was returned to his family (my daughter) a few days later, physically unharmed beyond some sore pads and needing food and water.
Rico was not without impact from that event and had a lot of anxiety about cars. We are so grateful his crate protected him and for all the people who helped us to find him ❤️

I like to focus on the space in my heart they filled, making it bigger so there is room to love more ❤️

While it may be well-intentioned, its' not always the best thing to say at the passing of a pet.

We're set to hit 97º today, and forecasters predict we could reach 100º this weekend! As you can see in this chart, the inside of a car can heat up fast on days like these. Never leave pets in the car — temperatures rise quickly, even with the windows down, and can be deadly for your pet.

Other hot-weather tips:

• Be sure your pets have access to plenty of water, especially when it’s hot.
• Make sure your pet has plenty of shady places to go when outdoors.
• CAUTION: Test sidewalks with your hand. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s probably too hot for your pet.
• Avoid exercising with your pet outside on extremely hot days.
