This year, we’re committed more than ever to helping animals in need, both in our own community and beyond, and we couldn’t do it without YOU. Huge shoutout to the amazing volunteers at the Poughkeepsie Public Library District for spreading some serious tail-wagging joy! They recently made and dropped off a bag full of DIY toys for all our dogs.

Not only did they craft these awesome toys with love, but they also included a step-by-step guide on how to make them. Got a toy-loving pup at home who could use a new creation to play with? Check it out to add some fun to your four-legged friend’s day!

Friends made at HVARS. Melody - 4 yrs old torti & Jangle 5 month old black short hair came from 2 different places and entered our free range room at different times. Jangle has been a very scared kitten who came in with his siblings about 6 weeks ago, while Melody entered the room shortly after being spayed just about 2 weeks ago. After a few days we noticed Jangles out and about more and really thriving for the first time in several weeks. Then we realized he's been hanging out with Melody who very obviously has the most motherly instinct to take him under her wing. Melody has comforted Jangle to a point that has made this amazing bond between the two. They are now inseparable and absolutely love each other. They can be found snuggling, grooming and sleeping next to each other almost every moment. Out of all the cats Jangle could have befriended in the room he has chosen Melody and she has chosen him back, we can't be sure for what reason but we know they must stay together now. We are hopeful a forever family looking for a wonderful pair will come along and fall in love. They are both cat friendly, living amongst other cats now and so well. Our Story

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) charity organization, located at 9 Barnes Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY. HVARS was started to help pets in need get the medical attention they deserved for an affordable price. We run a low cost clinic, where our vets on staff do everything from well healthcare check ups & vaccines to Spay/Neuter services and more complicated surgeries. Anything from basic routine care to bloodwork, x-rays and dentals. We are also an adoption/rehabilitation center, taking in close to 1,000 cats/kittens, dogs/puppies and farm animals each year. The domestic animals are evaluated and vetted, then eventually put up for adoption to find their forever families while the farm animals are adopted out or stay at our sanctuary for the remainder of their lives depending on the needs of each animal. The last thing we offer is wildlife rehabilitation, in the spring and summer months we take in anywhere between 50-150 injured and orphan wildlife- mainly we focus on Raccoons, Skunks, Fox and Fawn but we assist in placing all species to the proper rehabilitator to ensure they are receiving everything they need to thrive and eventually be released back into the wild.
