We have a friend with this beautiful boy who needs a furever home. He’s AKC registered, pencil toe 8 month old male. Good with other dogs. Hasn’t been around cats yet but at 8 months, he’s trainable.

For this, our annual fundraiser, we humbly ask that you consider supporting Pita & Pecan’s Animal Refuge. To date, we’ve helped over 600 animals in 5 years with just 3 people actively, voluntarily working for the rescue.

The black and tan female is 90% blind. Both have been missing since the 16th. They may be in the Mountain Woods Lake, Sibleyville Road, or Warrior Trafford Road.

One of our babies was just saved by this awesome man, Jeff Hester of Hester’s Tree Service, LLC. He ran up a tree about 20 ft and was too scared to come down. This man came in the middle of the night to come help him ❤ We owe him a great thanks!

We’re at Pet Supermarket today until 5 and tomorrow from 1-4! Yes! Even in the rain ... come see us and maybe take a new Furbaby home. 🥰

This is our Puppy of the Day! Her name is Rachael, she is a 7 month old Doberman mix. She is very sweet and laid back. Loves kids, cats, and other dogs! DM us for more information on this sweet baby. She is still waiting for someone to take her home!

Our Story ...

Pita & Pecan’s Animal Refuge is a veteran owned and operated 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue and sanctuary in Hayden, Alabama. We operate in and around Blount County, Alabama and surrounding areas. We accept cats, dogs, birds, and small farm animals - really anything we can properly house because we love them all! Pita & Pecan’s was founded and continues to be operated by Kimberly Thrasher (a disabled veteran) and Allye Combs (a vet tech). Our dream goal is to have a fully functional, free roam (when allowed) facility to house any animal we can help. We rescue, evaluate, treat and house any animal we can house that needs us in our local area. All new intakes are placed on a quarantine and evaluation period. Once each animal has received its’ required age appropriate vaccinations, has been spay/neutered, receives a good general health check and receives their rabies vaccine and certificate; we adopt them both locally and north of Alabama in order to provide them with the best possible furever home. We do this because our animals have always helped us and this is our opportunity to return the favor! However, we can do this without YOU! Our volunteers, PPAR families who have already adopted from us, and our supporters through social media, events, and word of mouth are the best ever. We’re very grateful for ALL of you!

Name origin:

Pita was Kimberly’s blue brindle pit bull (female) who was lost tragically in June of 2018. Pita is loved and missed daily and she could never be replaced but; Kimberly vows to help as many as she possibly can in Pita’s honor through this refuge.

Pecan is Allye’s beautiful tabby (male) who was diagnosed with Feline AIDS. Pecan is still with us, thankfully! Allye chose to honor him before his diagnosis was confirmed because he is her one and only personal feline fur baby - or he was at the time. She’s been rescuing cats for a few years now through her work at the clinic and helping some pups along the way too. She’s passionate about her fur babies and wants to do everything she can to help as many as she can.
