Another wonderful time down in beautiful Tasmania. A solid 3 days of consults and surgeries, great company with good food and good wine, meeting lovely people and enjoying life. There are few places in Australia that I visit that stand out as a collaboration of veterinarians who are passionate about raising the bar in equine dentistry and improve the lives of their patients (and therefore owners!) in this field. The crew in Hobart are working tirelessly to this end and have to be congratulated on their efforts

We had a quick trip down to Tasmania this week. Wonderful ponies and horses, wonderful owners, keen referring vets and some of the best seafood I have ever had!! From the subtropics of Brisbane, we donned our winter woolies and worked under the shadow of snowy Mt Wellington. There was even time for a quick trip to sample some tassie wine on the way back to the airport. Bye Tasmania, we look forward to our next visit, this has been one of my most favourite work trips!

2021 is the 11th year of heading to Grafton NSW one to three times per year to tutor at the EVDS dental workshops. This is a level 2 (intermediate) workshop - a smaller group that concentrated on treating periodontal disease, wiring luxated incisors, incisor and cheek teeth extraction.

About us

Originally from the country, Olivia has worked in veterinary practices in regional Australia both in mixed and equine hospitals. She established Brindabella Equine Vets in Southern NSW in 2010 and grew it into a well-respected and successful business, offering full services for horses but with a special focus on equine dentistry. Now based in Brisbane, Australian Veterinary Equine Dentistry Pty Ltd was established in 2018 and aims to provide referral dental surgeries and treatments to horses Australia-wide, enabling patients to be treated at their regular veterinarians or at a veterinary practice nearby.

A postgraduate veterinary pathway in equine dentistry saw Olivia awarded by the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVSc) membership in Equine Dentistry by examination in 2010, she is currently one of only two dozen in Australia and New Zealand to hold this prestigious qualification.

Olivia passed her Diplomate exams through the International College of Equine Veterinary Odontologists (ICEVO, based in Canada) May 2015, and in 2014 she successfully applied for and was granted entry into the program for Advanced Standing pathway in Equine Dentistry through the American Veterinary Dental College. She credentialed in 2018 na passed theory exams in 2019. Olivia plans to sit the practical exams in June 2020, at the completion of this program she will be Australia’s sole registered and practicing specialist in equine dentistry in the Southern Hemisphere.

Olivia is a member of the AVA (Australian Veterinary Association), the EVA (Equine Veterinarians Australia), the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners), FVD (Foundation of Veterinary Dentistry) and EDV (Equine Dental Vets). She held the position of President of the ACT Division Committee of the AVA from 2008 through to 2010 and served as a committee member for the Division for the maximum allowable term of nine years. She has served as the state representative for the ACT on the Australian Veterinary Dental Society committee since 2015, and the the President for the Dental Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVSc) and Treasurer for the Dental SIG of the Australian Veterinary Association.
