Washington Animal Adoption Group (WAAAG) is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and to educate the public on subjects useful to the individual and beneficial to the community. Washington Area Animal Adoption Group (WAAAG) is veteran founded, all-volunteer animal rescue nestled in the beautiful rolling hill

s of Delaplane, VA. We are dedicated to improving the lives of our furry friends. The WAAAG concept of offering a healing "timeout" for often abused, neglected and abandoned shelter animals is unique and well thought out. WAAAG is dedicated to improving the lives of our furry friends. We take in dogs & cats from overcrowded shelters. In addition to vet care, our animals receive lots of unconditional love, rest & relaxation to help them recover from what they have been through. WAAAG dogs stay in climate controlled cabins where have their own rooms & access to their own covered porch, kennel run & play yard. WAAAG animals enjoy peaceful walks through grassy fields & along meandering creeks next to large trees. Peace and tranquility help the dogs heal emotionally & prepare for their forever home. WAAAG is worth your consideration and your support!

Happy Gotcha Day!! This doesn't happen often - siblings Maisy and Duke were adopted on the same day! Maisy, Duke and their sibling, Lulu, came to WAAAG in March. They were all taken in by our fabulous foster, Katie Poe. Lulu was adopted very quickly, but it took a little longer for Maisy and Duke to find their perfect families. And it all came together at the same time!
Many, many thanks to Katie and her husband, for taking all 3 pups into their home and doing a fabulous job keeping them entertained and happy 🥰 Their home will be much quieter, we are sure 😉
Wishing many happy years together to Maisy and Duke and their new families!

Over this past weekend Loki and Thor went to their forever home! Bonded pairs are tough. It takes a special family to take on two cats and we are so grateful to those that make this kind of commitment. It takes time and work, but it’s so worth the wait! Happy life, Loki and Thor ❤️😻❤️

Bonded pair looking for home, foster or permanent!

Rigby & Mordicai are 2 super sweet indoor kitties. They are sister and brother, around 8 years old. They originally came to WAAAG when they were only a few days old, with their mom. They were adopted out to a loving home that had a dog and they were happy. Recently, their dad lost their home and he is no longer able to take care of them. Both Mordi and Rigby are very sweet and laid back. They are timid and a little scared at first, but after a day or 2, they will come out and explore. They are quiet and fairly low energy, but they do engage with people and they will play. They get along with other dogs and cats. They love sunny spots in the house, they will follow the sun around floor. They are not destructive and they always use their litter box.
If you would like to meet these sweeties, please email angie, [email protected]. Thank you!

Duke is a 28 lb neutered 2 yr young black with orange brindle chihuahua mix. His one goal in life is to play fetch. Not only will he play fetch until you are both exhausted, but he brings back the ball to you SO gently! And if you don't throw it right away, he will pick it up and drop it closer as a gentle reminder. So cute!! Duke is in a foster home with his sister, Maisy, and 3 other dogs and is doing wonderfully well. Because Duke tends to jump out of excitement, we are looking for a family with children of at least 8 years old. He can be an escape artist, so he will require a fenced yard or to be leashed at all times when not in the home. Duke knows basic commands and will recall quickly when you call him. He is high energy and would do great as a hiking buddy or in a home where he gets lots of exercise. Duke is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines. For more information on Duke, please email [email protected] or visit waaag.org/adopt.

📣🐾📣 COURTESY POST 📣🐾📣
Pebbles is believed to be five years old and is looking for a new forever home through no fault of her own. She has no outstanding or known health issues and is current on all vaccinations. She is leash trained, crate trained, and housebroken. She has never had an accident or destroyed anything other than her toys. She is not food aggressive or possessive. She is excellent with children. Pebbles is a fun and playful girl.
Pebbles has no history of aggression towards humans, however, she has aggressive responses towards dogs, and other small animals. For that reason we would recommend she be the only pet in the home and older, dog considerate children. For more information on Pebbles, please email [email protected].

LuLu has been adopted by her wonderful new mom, Christa! Not only is she already spoiled with the most stylish collar, harness, leash and bed but she’s also gets her monthly Bark Box subscription delivered! She is going to be the only pup in the house, which she will just eat up, especially since her mom works from home. LuLu is already in love and is Christa’s shadow. They are both excited for Lulu’s sister, Maisy and brother Duke, to be adopted so they can do a family reunion as much as possible 🥰 We see long naps, lots of kisses and cuddles in Lulu’s future, and could not be more excited for her and Christa!! Happy Gotcha Day, Lulu ❤️🐾❤️

Loki and Thor are 2 super sweet brothers that are looking for a home together. If you are looking for some cuddle buddies to sleep under the covers with you at night, look no further! These 2 laid back guys are good with other cats, dogs, kids and adults - what more could you ask for? Loki has a beautiful silky black coat with a white stripe on his face and striking white whiskers! He will follow you wherever you go looking for pets and tummy rubs. And have you ever heard of a cat liking his belly button rubbed? Loki does! Thor is your typical tuxedo and takes a little longer to come out of his shell. But when he does (and he will) he loves to have his head rubbed. These boys are 3 years young, neutered, microchipped and they are currently on their vaccines. They are a bonded pair, so we are looking for a home that will take them both. If you would like more information on these two affectionate sweethearts, please email us at [email protected].

Hi everyone,

Our hearts are broken to tell you that we had to say goodbye to sweet Molly recently. This amazing girl came to WAAAG 3 years ago. She was living down in Southern WV with her 3 month old puppies; Silas, Mocha, Emma, Cooper and Nash. They were all living outside. Molly was tied to an old, rusty trailer and her babies were locked in a kennel next to her. The rope was only a few feet long, her shelter was under the trailer.
A woman driving by the house saw them and went to the home and asked if she could have and take them to a rescue. The guy agreed to give them up. Her only problem was that her county shelter was already overflowing and having to euthanize dogs for space. She knew they wouldn’t have a good chance down there. She reached out to WAAAG. We had space and agreed to take them in. When she returned to his home for Molly and her babies, he would only release her puppies. He told the woman that Molly was “his girl” and he couldn’t get rid of her. She tried to talk him out of his decision, but his mind was set. She left with only the puppies and she sent them up on transport to WAAAG. She wasn’t giving up on Molly though and she returned to his home a few days later, to find Molly, by herself, tied up the rusty old trailer. She asked the man again to release Molly to her and he finally agreed. Molly came up to WAAAG right away to be with her babies again!
We were all so happy to have Molly with us! In addition to being an amazing mom, Molly was also beautiful and fun-loving. She knew she and her babies were going to be ok and she didn’t waste a minute celebrating her new freedom and everyone she met. One of our volunteers, Jeff, felt a special bond with her. On his days off, he would take her on hikes all around Northern Virginia. They were instant best buddies. Jeff had recently moved out to the country from DC. He was renting an apartment close by and very much enjoying his new small-town life. Molly’s puppies were all adopted out to wonderful families.
A couple of months went by with Jeff stopping over to pick up Molly for the day and take her hiking. Then one day, someone asked us if Molly was still available for adoption. Before responding, I let Jeff know and I could tell that he was not ready to let her go. He asked the property owner if he could have Molly in his apartment. He said “no, no dogs allowed”, but luckily his lease was almost over. Jeff immediately went to work looking for a home to buy, he found a lovely home in Marshall and he even built a fence for her so she could have a nice big back yard.
If you live in Marshall and you drive through town in the mornings, you have probably seen them on their morning walks. They were best friends and inseparable. One of her favorite places to hang out was the Vint Hill Dog Park. She loved sniffing all of the smells and playing with the other dogs. Molly and Jeff had a very special bond and they were perfect together.

Molly started slowing down over the last couple of months, but it wasn’t anything sudden, then one day, Molly was struggling to walk and she looked like she had a headache. Several tests and vet visits eventually revealed that Molly had a very aggressive cancer and it had spread to her brain. Jeff made sure that his best friend was not in pain and he gave her the best last day she could possibly have. He took her for walks around town when she wanted to go, he hung out with her on their favorite spot on the sofa, and he took her for a couple of car rides. And when it was time for her to leave, he asked if I would be there also. Jeff held her tight on their sofa and told her how much he loved her and what a good girl she was. He was sobbing and wishing he had more time with her and wishing that he could have saved her. It was heartbreaking. I told him that he gave her the best life that anyone could have given her. For 3 years, they were best friends and everything to each other. She could not have asked for a better life.

Every animal that comes to WAAAG has a song. Molly’s song wouldn’t be perfect without her best friend, Jeff. For me, their song is, “We’re Going to be Friends”, by Jack White.

Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
I can tell that we are going to be friends

Walk with me, Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We will rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we found
Safely walk to school without a sound
Safely walk to school without a sound

Here we are, no one else
We walk to school all by ourselves
There's dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now it's time to learn
We clean up and now it's time to learn

Meadow, meadow, meadow, sweet Molly. We love you. Angie ❤️🌈

Maisy is a 24lb 2 year young black w/orange brindle chihuahua mix. Maisy came to WAAAG with her siblings Duke and Lulu and have been in foster care with 3 other dogs in the home. We think Maisy and Duke are brother and sister and are bonded. Maisy is a perfect combination of her brother and sister - meaning that she loves to play AND she loves kisses and cuddles 💗

Duke is neutered, 28lbs and is also a black w/orange brindle chihuahua mix. His one goal in life is to play fetch. Not only will he play fetch until you are both exhausted, but he brings back the ball to you SO gently! And if you don't throw it right away, he will pick it up and drop it closer as a gentle reminder. So cute!

Because these two pups tend to jump out of excitement, we are looking for a family with children of at least 8 yrs old. Duke and Maisy can be escape artists, so they will require a fenced yard or to be leased at all times when not in the home. They both know basic commands and will recall quickly when called. They are high energy and would do great as hiking buddies or in a place where they get lots of exercise. We really hope to adopt them out as a pair. Since coming to WAAAG Maisy and Duke have been In foster care with 3 other dogs and have been getting wonderfully well!

Both Duke and Maisy are microchipped and up to date on all vaccines. Duke is neutered. Maisy is not yet spayed, but we hope to have that done before she is adopted. If not, her adoption fee includes her spay it is is performed by our vet, Marshall Veterinary Clinic in Marshall, VA. For more information on this dynamic duo, please email [email protected] or visit waaag.org/adopt 🐶💓🐶

During her Oscars tribute to White, who died in December 2021 at age 99, Curtis said “She was not only a Golden Girl, she was a legend. She brightened every room she walked in and brought a smile to all who watched her on the screen day in and day out, for almost a century.” The actress then went on to address why she was cradling a dog in her arms, explaining, “She was a woman who cared so much for not just her two-legged friends but for animals just like this one. So, the greatest gift you could give Betty White is to open your heart and your home and adopt a rescue dog just like Mac N Cheese from Paw Works. Thank you, Betty, thank you for being a friend to us all.”

Meadow, meadow, meadow, sweet BK. You were a good boy and you were loved. Yesterday morning, BK told us it was time to say goodbye. Thank you to MedVet in Manassas for helping him cross the rainbow bridge. His previous mommy was on the phone with us, telling him she loved him so much. He recognized her voice and he even mustered up a slight purr for her. BK fell asleep with me holding him, telling him that he’s a good boy and we all love him very much.
Everyone has a song. I didn’t know BK for very long, but he was one of the sweetest, most affectionate kitties I have ever met. On my way home from saying goodbye, I was thinking about what his song was and then Neil Diamond’s song, “Heartlight” came on and I started crying all over again 💔 BK had a special glow that I wish all the world could have seen. He greeted everyone with a happy meow and a loving head-bonk and he is and will be missed terribly.
We love you, BK 🐾❤️🌈

“Come back again
I want you to stay next time
'Cause sometimes the world ain't kind
When people get lost like you and me
I just made a friend
A friend is someone you need
But now that he had to go away
I still feel the words that he might say
Turn on your heartlight
Let it shine wherever you go
Let it make a happy glow
For all the world to see
Turn on your heartlight
In the middle of a young boy's dream
Don't wake me up too soon
Gonna take a ride across the moon
You and me
- “Heartlight” lyrics written by Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach & Carole Sager ❤️🐾
