1. On-leash greetings can be very overwhelming and a lot of pressure for dogs. On-leash greetings are also a great way to accidentally create a reactive dog and a dog that pulls on leash. Plus, my dogs don’t want to say hi to every dog and person and it’s important I advocate for my dogs!

2. Dog parks 🚫 Dog parks are full of unpredictability. They are a breeding ground for illness, dog fights, and behavioral issues! My dogs don’t need dog friends, however, one of my dogs has a few trusted and trained dog friends that we allow to have structured play together! My other dog wants nothing to do with other dogs, and that’s okay!

3. Free feeding and always leaving food out for my dogs is something I’ll never do. It can make it difficult to be in control of their health and food intake. It can also severely decrease my dogs’ food drive! And taking away a dog’s drive for food takes away an important means of genetically fulfilling our dogs!

4. This one may be more controversial, but my dogs will never directly interact with babies and small children. Way too much risk with hardly any reward. Dogs are still dogs. Plus, my dogs are not 100% comfortable around kids and babies. However, if a child is a bit older and knows how to properly interact with dogs, that’s a different story!

5. Similar to dog parks, doggy daycares can expose my dogs to illness and dangerous situations. There are some very *structured* daycares run by trusted trainers that I would trust. However, I personally do not trust most doggy daycares. I used to work in doggy daycare facilities as well, so I feel confident saying this.

6. Last but not least, I’ll never stop training my dogs 😊 Training is like parenting: it never ends and is a lifestyle! Both my dogs and I love working together and it has allowed me to have an amazing relationship with my pups!

Do you consider any of these a hot take? 🔥

Introducing… Koda and Izzy! ☀️

Koda is a a 3 year old Malamute and Izzy is a 12 year old Lab mix and they recently became housemates!

Their owners reached out because Izzy has struggled with dog reactivity all her life. And because Koda and his owner were moving in, it was important we taught both dogs how to coexist respectfully!

We don’t expect Koda and Izzy to be best buds, but we do expect them to coexist harmoniously. We have since added lots of structure to their daily lives which has created a sense of predictability for both dogs to help them feel comfortable! We have also helped Koda learn some impulse control around the family cats!

When it comes to multiple dog households, creating a well-balanced pack structure is so important! We want all dogs in the home to thrive 😊

Introducing, Kova the 1.5 year old Doodle 💗

Kova’s owner struggled with pulling on leash, rushing out doors, jumping on guests, slight reactivity on walks, and counter surfing. Kova also struggled with being able to settle and over-arousal.

Through Private Lessons, Kova and her owner’s relationship has improved a ton! Communication is more clear and Kova has learned that her owner is valuable, even around big distractions! 👏🏼

Kova has also found success by learning how to settle and regulate her nervous system better. A dog that can learn to decompress on their own is a dog that is going to be more balanced and less likely to struggle behaviorally! Super proud of this girl and her owner 😊

Everyone, meet Olive! 🫒

This adorable girl is a one year old mixed breed 🥰

Olive had struggled with fearfulness and reactivity towards almost anything (people, dogs, anything with wheels, etc.). She had even tried to nip/bite, which prompted her owner to seek professional help!

Upon meeting Olive, I noticed right away she was very insecure. Due to her insecurity about unknown situations (most situations), she resorted to being reactive, as many dogs do, as a means to do her best to control the situation. She had learned the barking, growling, lunging, and even using her teeth was the only way to handle uncomfortable & unknown situations. Daily walks, having guests over, and day-to-day activities became hard to manage for Olive’s owner. She was simply lacking leadership and overall confidence.

Since working with Olive and her owner, both have come SO far as a team! 👏🏼 Dog training is owner training. And Olive’s owner has stepped up to the plate and learned how to lead her dog successfully! 💪🏼

Through training, their bond has strengthened immensely. They have built a clear line of communication, allowing for more trust & confidence as individuals and as a pair! Olive is still on her journey to be the best version of herself, but I’m so proud of the confidence and manners she has gained thus far! ☺️🫒

Introducing Spike (GSD) and Snowball (Pom/Terrier/Chihuahua Mix) 🥰

These two housemates’ owner reached out after Spike came into her life. We began basic obedience and neutrality training with Spike which then prompted the owner to train her little guy Snowball as well! I LOVE when owners provide proper training and outlets to ALL dogs in the home 👏🏼

When it comes to housemates, building trust with the owners and other animals in the home is super important for dogs to truly thrive. Each dog’s needs must be met and each dog must be advocated for. All dogs are different. Creating harmony amongst a pack is vital for the dogs to be happy & successful and training allows this to happen! 😊👍🏼

Introducing… Cowboy! 🤠

Cowboy is a young Doodle whose owner reached out for the typical puppy issues: trouble with potty training, over-excitement at almost anything, pulling on leash, antagonizing his housemate, excitement urination, nipping, jumping, and a lack of overall manners.

Cowboy, his owner and myself have been working together the past couple of months to eliminate those unwanted behaviors and replace them with healthy, desired behaviors! Setting boundaries, adding more structure, and being more intentional overall has allowed Cowboy and his owner to really start to work as a team 💪🏼 He’s such a spunky little guy that’s suuuper food motivated (we love that!) 😍 So honored to get to help him and his owner achieve a more harmonious life together 😊

✨Client Review✨

Ash and Flex are two Canes Corsos whose owner originally reached out desperately for help back in January. The dogs both struggled with some dog/human reactivity and resource guarding. Their owner, Toshia, is also a nail tech and works out of her home. She struggled with the dogs rushing the door and making it difficult for her clients to come in - annoying!

We have worked together for months now and I am so proud of the owner, Toshia’s growth as a handler! 👏🏼
I am also incredibly impressed with how well both Ash and Flex have responded to training. It’s a joy to work with them 🥰

The most important thing is to BE CONSISTENT when training your dog!

First, find what works for you and your dog. Dogs LOVE patterns. Once you teach desired behaviors, pattern them to your dog. When consistent with our expectations, these patterns will eventually turn into habits. And a dog with good habits is a self governing dog 😊

Give a big hello to Mr. Diesel! 👋🏼

This big boy is a 1 year old Rottweiler and is SO handsome 😍

(Fun fact about me: Rotties are one of my fav breeds!)

Diesel was an unexpected arrival for his owner, but she has since stepped up to the plate to give Diesel the best life possible! Diesel struggles with dog reactivity and lacks basic manners… he has driven his owner nuts! 🤪😂

With a few lessons under his belt, Diesel has already shown some solid improvements. 💪🏼 We are focusing on handler engagement as well as basic obedience. Once he and his owner have mastered the basics, we will begin counter conditioning his feelings towards other dogs to help with his dog reactivity! I’m super pumped to be working with this big boy ☺️☺️

I brought my dog, Mackey, as a demo dog that can be neutral. Archie is dog reactive, so Mackey being neutral was a way to expose Archie to other dogs while being able to stay within threshold!

Introducing ✨Kaia✨

Kaia is a 6 month old Lab/Aussie mix and is beginning her training journey 😊

She is your typical 6 month old puppy that enjoys jumping, counter surfing, chewing on things she shouldn’t, pulling on leash, and overall distractedness.

Our goals are simple: add more structure to her daily life, teach basic obedience skills, and build her relationship with her owners for the best results!

Once Kaia and her owners master her basic obedience and create a clear line of communication, we will then begin more advanced off-leash training to allow her more freedom in the future! 😊 I’m so excited to work with Kaia and her family!

“Pet the dog you want!”

You may or may not have heard this before, but what does it actually mean?

It’s simple:
Petting a dog is commonly* used as a type of reward.

Therefore, it’s important we are intentional about when we pet our dog.

It is a good time to pet your dog when they are calm and offering good behaviors!
However, it is NOT a good time to pet your dog if your dog is scared, nervous, anxious, reactive, etc!

As dog owners, we don’t want to accidentally reward and encourage these unwanted behaviors by petting the dog. Instead, it is a great opportunity to guide and show our dogs what we DO want instead, setting them up for success!

*There are some dogs that do not find petting and hands-on praise as rewarding. This is why it’s equally important to focus on the dog in front of you!
