Benny was abandoned by his previous owner in March at the public shelter. The owner said that he could no longer afford to care for a dog. The public shelter is always very full and is an uncomfortable place for most dogs. Still, Benny wagged his tail and greeted the shelter workers everyday, everyone loved him. At the shelter, Benny was kennelled with 2 big dogs, they would bully Benny and take his food. One time, Benny even got injured from bites. The shelter workers reached out to us for help, to rescue this sweet boy from the horrible shelter environment. It has been 4 months since Benny has entered one of our foster homes, he has passed his health checkups, and gotten obedience and socialization training. We think Benny is ready to look for his forever home.
Benny has a very bubbly personality. He loves people and is friendly towards everyone. He also likes to play with other dogs. However, when faced with an aggressive or dominant male dog, Benny may show some insecurity and unfriendliness. Benny is very gentle and polite towards cats. He does not approach nor chase them. He does not mind if the cat comes close or hisses at him. Benny loves going for walks and hikes, we think he would make a great companion for retirees, since he is a great walking partner. Benny does not go potty indoors. He is already an adult dog so he is very much used to relieving himself outdoors. Benny loves treats, and he isn't food agressive towards people, he is super eager to learn new tricks for some yummy rewards and praise.
Benny is well behaved in the car, he will quietly enjoy the view or lie down to rest. He can even be crated in the car. He does not get car sick. Benny loves bath and actually loves to play in the water. He is well behaved during ear cleaning and nail trimming as well. Benny requires approximately 2 walks per day that are 40-60 minutes each. He was given free roam of his foster home, meaning he was not crated, and he was always very well behaved, never getting into anything he shouldn't. Benny truly is a sweet and well behaved adult dog.
Given that Benny is already 4-5 years old, we were shocked that he was so eager to learn new tricks and to obey the new people in his life. Even though he gets some puppy-like bursts of energy sometimes, he is very smart and loyal. He understands what his foster mom expects of him quickly and is eager to please. His good behaviour has been praised by everyone who meets him. Benny is an excellent companion and his size is suitable for joining the family on outdoor adventures or just relaxing at home. If you are looking for a dog with a bright smile, sweet personality, and trainable attitude, Benny is a great choice. We are looking forward to receiving your application forms.
