Mika and her sister Lucky were abandoned in the mountains when they were just three months old. In their desperate search for food, the two pups wandered to the front door of a kind-hearted rescue volunteer. Seeing how thin and hungry they were, the volunteer couldn’t bear to turn them away—she gave them food and clean water, and from that day on, the two sisters stayed near her home. Wanting to give them a better life, the volunteer reached out to Sandy Rescue for help. We took them in, brought them to the vet for a full health check, provided all the necessary medical care, and had them both spayed about a month later.Between the two, Mika is the more outgoing and confident one, so we decided to start looking for her forever home first.
Mika is a sweet and affectionate little girl who absolutely adores people and other dogs. Whether it’s a stranger or a new dog friend, she always greets them with a wagging tail. She loves being petted and cuddled, and she’s especially happy when other dogs come up to interact with her. However, Mika can get nervous around overly excited or high-energy large dogs. For this reason, we’re careful during her socialization outings to dog parks and pet-friendly cafés to ensure she doesn’t get overwhelmed.
Despite being a puppy, Mika is incredibly gentle, calm, and well-mannered. She moves delicately and has a naturally quiet personality. She especially loves children—one of her favorite moments was meeting a little girl at a pet café for the first time. Mika immediately warmed up to her, showering her with affection. She truly is a gentle sweetheart.
Mika also enjoys car rides. She doesn’t get carsick and usually falls asleep peacefully in the car. The moment she hops in, she’s ready to rest, and once she gets out, she’s ready to play. She’s the kind of dog who knows when to relax and can fall asleep easily wherever she is. Mika is incredibly adaptable and easygoing. Mika is already potty trained—she does her business on the grass when outside, and knows how to use p*e pads indoors. However, as she is still a young puppy and will be experiencing a significant change in environment, it’s normal for her to feel anxious or unsettled at first, and occasional accidents may happen. Her adoptive family will need to guide her with patience and love, avoiding any form of punishment or scolding. Positive reinforcement and gentle encouragement will help her adjust and continue to improve.
Mika would make a wonderful companion dog—not only is she calm, quiet, and obedient, but she also adjusts quickly to new environments. At first, she might feel a little shy and crouch down while wagging her tail to show submission, but with some cuddles, gentle words, and a chance to explore her surroundings, she quickly gains confidence and becomes a cheerful, playful pup.
Mika has a beautiful smile, though she’s a bit camera-shy and often turns away from the lens. This is why we especially encourage anyone interested in adopting her to meet her in person—she’s even sweeter and more charming than she appears in pictures or videos.
Mika will be arriving in Vancouver on June 30th. If you’re interested in meeting this lovely little girl and possibly welcoming her into your family, please fill out an application. We’ll be in touch with you as soon as possible to arrange a meet-and-greet.
