I would like to introduce our newest addition to our family. 🐾
This is Holly’s new little brother Banks 💙.
Banks is a rescue from Pound Dog Rescue.
He came from Manitoba, where he was found in a dump with his sister, and was very malnourished!
He had the most amazing foster family to take care of him.
He is 13 weeks old & is a collie/husky mix.
He is a very healthy, sweet, cuddly, happy guy.
He loves his big sister, and food lol.
He’s learning how to walk on leash and prances like a big boy.
We can’t wait to watch him grow.

🐾💚PLEASE KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE THIS WEEKEND!!💚🐾

As you know, the long weekend is this weekend. Which means fireworks!!
Many dogs find FIREWORKS frightening. 1 in 5 dogs go missing on long weekends.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE:
-PLEASE ensure your property is secure. Supervise your dog in your yard. Use a leash, some dogs can become so scared they can escape the yard.
-Keep your dog inside
-Plan your walk earlier when fireworks are less likely.
-Check that all your dogs gear (collar, leash) is fitted properly and in good repair (no rips or damage).
-Plan ahead to keep your dog home and secured inside.
-Drown out noise with music or tv.
-Keep your dog content and calm with some treats or toys.
-Be prepared.... make sure your dogs tags and microchip info are up to date.
Please keep your furbabies safe. If they go missing:
-call Humane Society to ensure your pet isn't there and follow up.
-put up posts on social media
-Put your pets bed at the front door, include either a favorite of theirs or something with your scent on it.
-remain calm. Never chase

As always, Please have a safe long weekend, From all of us at Ground Search and Rescue KW

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

If you are purchasing eclipse glasses, please make sure they meet these criteria. For additional information about the eclipse please see:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/

For a list of approved solar-viewing goggles please see:

https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters

It is not safe to watch the eclipse through the lens of your smartphone - it can damage both your phone camera and your eyes. Try this instead:

Safe watching our friends!

As any pro pet sitter or dog walker will tell you, running a pet-care business is NO JOKE!

Here at PSI, we always say that pet sitting isn’t for the faint of heart🖤—and on a day that typically focuses on jokes, we want to stop and thank professional pet sitters and dog walkers for the serious work they do!

⭐For any who have ever wondered, “Is pet sitting (or dog walking) a real job?” The answer is ABSOLUTELY.✔

👉Professional pet sitters and dog walkers are small-business owners—vital contributors to their communities and local economy.

👉They have a business license (where required), pay taxes, are insured, bonded, and trained in pet care and pet first aid.

👉They work year-round to ensure pet parents can have the peace of mind offered by quality, reliable pet care when long work hours or travel keep them from their beloved pets.

⭐Being a professional pet-sitting or dog-walking business owner is more than dog walks and cat cuddles.

👉Ask any professional pet sitter who has missed holidays with their families, extended pet-sitting visits to ensure an ailing pet was comforted or felt the loss of a client’s pet passing.

👉Or better yet, ask one of the hundreds of thousands of pet parents who benefit from the services of professional pet sitters and dog walkers every year.

👉Ask the pet owner who was alerted by his professional pet sitter that his dog’s behavior was unusual and recommended an emergency vet visit—saving the dog from dying from canine bloat.

👉Ask the pet parent who was able to call her pet sitter at 2 a.m. when she learns that her mother—on the other side of the country—has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition and is able to secure pet care as she rushes to the airport.

👉Ask the family whose professional pet sitter has graciously agreed to sit with them as their 15-year-old cat with late-stage chronic renal failure has to be euthanized.

Spend a day with a pro pet sitter or dog walker and you’ll know what those of us at PSI know without question:

♥Pet sitting is no joke! It’s a career…a lifestyle…a passion.♥

THANK YOU to the pet sitters and dog walkers making the world a better place for pets and their people!

💕Meet Etta💕
She is a pointer/mastiff cross, who is just over a year old.
This girl has a very special place in my 💜
Why u ask?….,.well bc we wanted to adopt her, but things didn’t work out.
Here’s a quick story about Etta. 📗
Etta was living on the streets in Hamilton.
The Hamilton pound rescued her and some of her litter mates.
She lived there for some time until the pound reached out to Pound Dog Rescue to c if they had a foster home for her.
A friend of mine who fosters, saw Etta’s picture and was immediately taken by her.
How could u not b tbh! 🥰
She fostered Etta for some time as well, and then realized she was the perfect fit for her family. 👩‍❤️‍👨
Etta finally has the most wonderful, loving home. 🏡
She will go on so many adventures 🛶🏖️⛺️🦮
And I’m so incredibly lucky, bc I get to c Etta as much as I want.
So I know the universe 🌎had made the right decision for Etta.

My Story

Hi, my name is Tanya. I’ve had dogs all my life. I have an absolute love for animals. When I was younger, I wanted to be a vet. I quickly realized, I could not be a vet because seeing animals hurt or in pain was too much for me. My joy is to give all the love possible to animals as they give to us.

Today, I have a 10 year old Scandinavian Hound named Harley.

Harley is a rescue, & came to me with many behavioral issues. With lots of positive training & rewarding, he has come a long way.

In 1996 I had my first puppy of my own that I bought with my own money. She was a Jack Russel Terrier. She went everywhere with me & she was with me through nursing school. She was the love of my life, and helped me through so many rough times. She made me so happy. She was with me for 14 short years.
