Here are five shadow work journal prompts tailored for someone using the human-canine bond in their trauma healing:

1. **Reflect on a time when your dog provided comfort during a difficult moment.** What emotions or memories did they help you process, and how did their presence guide you through the experience?

2. **Consider the qualities you admire most in your dog, such as loyalty, patience, or unconditional love.** How do these qualities reflect aspects of yourself that you may need to nurture or heal?

3. **Think about any moments of frustration or impatience you've had with your dog.** What do these reactions reveal about your own unresolved emotions or triggers, and how can you use these insights to heal?

4. **Recall a time when your dog sensed your pain or distress before you even acknowledged it.** What does this say about your ability to connect with and understand your own emotional state, and how can you deepen this connection?

5. **Explore the bond you share with your dog and how it has helped you confront your own vulnerabilities.** What aspects of your past trauma do you feel more equipped to face with your dog by your side, and how can this bond continue to support your healing journey?

These prompts are designed to help you explore how the connection with your dog aids in your emotional and psychological growth.

With Delaware Tribe Cultural Education Dept. – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉

I watched the debut of Inside the mind of dog on Netflix last night with Matt Beisner. One thing that stands out to me from that production is the concept of survival of the friendliest. I think the Lenape and Canines have this survival strategy in common. I'm looking forward to continued engagement with Lenape cultural teachings. Grateful for the teachers like Jeremy Johnson and the Elders that visited home recently.

Amal (Hope) is a dog with two injured legs. Her previous life was as a street dog in Egypt. Her last pack chewed her leg off - at Sit Stay Heal she is safe and secure and learning to trust again. Currently soliciting donations to help cover her medical expenses (spay surgery, pre op vet assessment, leg xrays, preventatives). If you are willing and able to help support her transition from Egytian street dog to human companion animal in Lenapehoking please DM me for ways you can help.

It's getting hot folks. Take care of those paws. Find shady areas or surfaces that don't hold heat the way the pavement and trex decking does. Walking in the morning and evening works pretty well as does walking on grass, gravel, dirt trails.

From Dean Koontz’s book “The Darkest Evening of the Year”:

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.”

Putting this here for now - looks like a good way (healthy - fun - low impact) to break into agility work.

🐾🌟 Embarking on a Journey of Growth and Healing with Sit Stay Heal 🌟🐾
Hey there, fellow journeyers! If you're reading this, chances are you're on a path of growth and discovery, just like me. Let me take a moment to share a bit about my journey and how it led me to where I am today with Sit Stay Heal.
My journey as a trainer has been diverse and rich with experiences. From training ski patrol candidates, to teaching German Police how to rappel, to coaching youth sports, every step has taught me something valuable about teamwork, communication, and resilience.
Fast forward to today, and I find myself fully immersed in the world of animal behavior and dog training. As a student of both, I'm constantly learning and evolving. My home is a haven for foster dogs, and I'm proud to be a shelter volunteer, offering love and support to those in need. As a dad to two rescue dogs and two boys, my heart is full, and my days are busy, but incredibly rewarding.
In my pursuit of understanding and healing, I've encountered both challenges and triumphs. Presently, I'm working on behavior therapy with Chai, my furry companion, to help her overcome leash reactivity. Our goal is for her to achieve a state of dog neutrality, where she can navigate the world with confidence and calmness. It's a journey filled with ups and downs, but one that I'm committed to wholeheartedly.
Along the way, I've come across differing opinions and methodologies, but I believe in finding what works best for each individual dog. While some may argue against exposure therapy or co-sleeping, I've found that every dog is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. Chai, with her positive veil behind her reactivity, reminds me of the complexity of canine behavior and the importance of patience and understanding.
As we continue our journey, I'm focused on progress, not perfection. I'm learning to approach each challenge with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. Whether it's taking slow, measured steps towards stimuli or practicing impulse control and obedience from a distance, every small victory is worth celebrating.
So here's to growth, healing, and the journey ahead. Thank you for joining me on this adventure with Sit Stay Heal. Together, we can create a world where every dog feels safe, loved, and understood. 🐾💖

Embrace the divine in every wag, every bark, every cuddle. This holy week, let's honor the true embodiment of love and compassion: our dogs. 🐾 15,000 years ago, She whispered to the wolves, guiding them to aid us in survival. 2057ish years ago, God took human form to rewrite the law of love within us. Today, She continues Her work through the gentle souls waiting in shelters, offering us a chance at redemption and unconditional love. Let's break free from unhelpful dogmas and embrace the paws that heal.

Ai and Dog Training.
Looks like the chat gpt 3.5 model leans toward force free training (which is good). Today I asked chat gpt for help with a dog that is having trouble settling in its kennel and I got this:

If your 2-year-old rescue dog is whining and barking in the kennel while your other dogs remain quiet, there are several strategies you can try to address this behavior:

1. **Gradual Crate Training:**
- Ensure the crate is associated with positive experiences. Gradually increase the time your dog spends in the crate, starting with short periods and rewarding calm behavior.

2. **Positive Reinforcement:**
- Reward your dog with treats and praise when they enter the crate willingly and stay calm. This helps create a positive association with the crate.

3. **Use Crate Games:**
- Incorporate interactive toys or puzzle feeders inside the crate to keep your dog mentally stimulated and occupied. This can distract them from whining.

4. **Establish a Routine:**
- Create a consistent routine for crate time, linking it with feeding or bedtime. Dogs often respond well to predictability.

5. **Ignore Attention-Seeking Behavior:**
- Avoid giving attention when your dog whines or barks in the crate. Wait for a moment of quiet, then reward and provide attention.

6. **Desensitization to Crate:**
- Gradually desensitize your dog to the crate by leaving it open and allowing them to explore it freely without being confined.

7. **Provide Comfort Items:**
- Add a comfortable bed or blanket to the crate, along with familiar toys or items that carry your scent. This can create a more inviting environment.

8. **Consult a Professional Trainer or Behaviorist:**
- If the issue persists, consider seeking guidance from a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. They can assess the specific situation and provide tailored advice.

9. **Rule Out Medical Issues:**
- Ensure your dog doesn't have any underlying health issues contributing to their discomfort. If in doubt, consult with your veterinarian.

10. **Monitor Anxiety Levels:**
- Assess if your dog may be experiencing anxiety. Understanding the root cause can help implement targeted strategies to address the anxiety, such as counterconditioning or desensitization.

Remember, patience and consistency are key when addressing behavioral issues. Every dog is unique, and it may take time to find the approach that works best for your rescue dog. If the problem persists, seeking professional guidance can be beneficial.

I love this tip. Also a good way to entice a finicky eater to eat. Or to pay a dog for disengaging with a distraction.
