You’ve probably already seen my posts about The Dog Training Studio at Animal Hospital On Bell Farm Road and the classes I am offering there. I have some news I am very excited about moving forward!

Since starting to work at The Dog Training Studio and Animal Hospital on Bell Farm Road, I have rediscovered my passion for training and working with dogs. Prior to this, I had been questioning if I wanted to even stay in the field. Since I’ve been enjoying the work environment there so much, I have decided to put all my energy into the work I am doing there.

I have been working on online courses that will still be coming VERY soon, but they will be through The Dog Training Studio instead of on my website.

Speaking of my website, I will be shutting it down. This means no more blog. The Wix web hosting used to be affordable enough for me to do my blog as a hobby, but the prices keep increasing. As a marketing tool, it made sense to keep up with the fees. However, now that I am no longer working on promoting myself and instead will be focusing on the wonderful team I am a part of, it doesn’t make sense to keep up with that. I still love writing and connecting with people through storytelling, but I will find another outlet for that.

More classes are starting soon at The Dog Training Studio and I can’t wait to see your doggos in attendance! Classes are open to both clinic clients and to students who use other veterinarians. 👩🏻‍🏫

🧠 Junior Kindergarten is a 6 week class that runs on Tuesdays at 8pm and can be started anytime. This class is for dogs under 5 months old to help with socialization and learning the basics to get them set up with a solid foundation for the rest of their life.

📚 Adult Education starts on Wednesday, July 31st at 6:00pm and runs every Wednesday for 6 weeks. This class is for dogs over 5 months old looking to get started with basic training or who need a refresher.

✏️ Tricks Club starts on Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00pm and runs every Wednesday for 6 weeks. This class is for dogs with any level of experience with trick training (or no experience at all). Class is taught by a CTDI so you can have your tricks witnessed in class to submit to Do More With Your Dog.

🎓 Scent Club has two start dates coming up: Saturday, July 6th at 3:15pm (one spot left) and Monday, July 22nd at 7:00pm. This class puts your dog’s nose to work learning the same skills drug detection and cadaver dogs do, but we use essential oils instead when training for sport. Any dog can do it!

It’s so treat your dog to some classes at The Dog Training Studio at Animal Hospital On Bell Farm Road taught by me! 👩🏻‍🏫

📚 Adult Education covers basic obedience and manners for dogs over 5 months of age and starts on Wednesday, June 19th at 2:00pm.

🖍️ Junior Kindergarten is for puppies under 5 months old to get them started off on the right foot with socialization and training. It can be started at anytime and runs on Tuesdays at 8:00pm.

🧠 Scent Club is for dogs who want to put their noses to work and learn scent detection. It starts on Monday, June 10th at 7:00pm.

🎒 Tricks Club is for dogs looking to learn some new behaviours so they can exercise their brains and have fun doing it. There are two upcoming start times for this class: Wednesday, June 19th at 1:00pm and Wednesday, June 19th at 6:00pm. Since I am a Do More With Your Dog! CTDI, I can witness your tricks for titles during class as well.

Happy National Cat Lady Day! We love and appreciate all cat moms, so we hope nobody feels tortured by us shining the spotlight on our favourite cat lady. 🐈 In honour of today, all barknbuck departments will be listening to Taylor Swift’s new album. 🎶 Does your cat have a favourite track? Mortimer’s is a tie between Anti-Hero and You Need to Calm Down. 🐾

It can be overwhelming finding someone to trust to help you care for your pets. The pet care industry is full of people with different points of view and approaches to their businesses. As a pet parent, how do you choose who to go to when you need support?

I have been working on surrounding myself with a community of business owners who are in their field because of their love for animals and who strive to support their clients and collaborate with other pet care professionals to provide the best possible services.

Three of these businesses are The Animal Hospital on Bell Farm Road, Liana’s Pet Services, and DoggieLicious. I highly recommend them all.

Dr Singh (a.k.a Doc Bowtie) at Animal Hospital On Bell Farm Road practices because of his love for animals and it shows with the amount of attention and care he gives to each and every patient that comes through his doors. This is also where The Dog Training Studio that I am teaching classes at is based out of.

Liana's Pet Services takes Pepper out on a walk once a week, and her dog walking business is amazing. Her number one concern in her workday is doing what is best for the dogs in her care.

DoggieLicious is our favourite place to attend scent trials because of the positive atmosphere the staff and volunteers create. Julia, the owner, is big on supporting everyone around her which shows in the dedication her employees have to their hard work.

I am so proud of this girl! We spent the last two days at for a scent trial. That last Q she needs for her Master Champion title is still evading us, but that’s because of me overthinking it. Spice was amazing! She just needs a better handler.

Even aside from scent, I’m so happy about how confident she was on the trial grounds. She was excited to be there and even went up to people on her own to socialize. I am so grateful to the team of volunteers who respects her need for space so she feels comfortable there.

Last night’s Junior Kindergarten class at The Dog Training Studio worked on putting their feet on different surfaces. 📚 An important subject in puppy class is socialization and confidence building. Getting familiar with stepping up on things and having different textures under their feet is part of that. 🐾

Why are group puppy classes important? 🎓 Puppy class teaches basic obedience, but there is so much more you and your puppy get out of it! The first 16 weeks of your puppy’s life are crucial for introducing them to the world as an exciting place instead of a scary one. Dogs don’t generalize well. This means that when they learn something in one situation, it doesn’t mean that they know how to do it every situation. Practicing your training in different places is important for proofing the behaviours you teach your dog. 🐾

I love having Pepper tag along to pet-friendly stores whenever I need something for a project at home. It gives her a chance to practice her skills out and about while I get my errands done. 😁

🐈‍⬛ This has been a difficult decision to come to, but barknbuck will no longer be working with fur babies and will only be offering tips and group training classes for hairless dogs and cats. This will take effect immediately.

Students in Tricks Club work on learning fun things to perform for entertainment and mental stimulation. Dogs and humans of all skill levels are encouraged to join this class and bring a list of requests of tricks you want to learn! 👩🏻‍🏫

Students who wish to earn trick titles through Do More With Your Dog! can also have tricks reviewed by your instructor, Sophie, who is a Certified Trick Dog Instructor. 🎓

I got my Trainer of the Year keychain from in the mail! 🥳 I am so grateful for having had so many wonderful students who have given me the opportunity to witness their trick titles. Thank you to each and every one of you. ❤️ Seeing such dedicated dog-handler teams working so beautifully together has inspired me. Watching humans dedicate their time towards enriching their dogs’ lives makes me incredibly happy! 🐶
