Underdogs Rock Rescue Underdogs Rock! Rescue is a small all volunteer foster based, Oregon 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue
(17)

URR works directly with severely overcrowded Shelters and rescue groups in CA, AL. Kauai, and Mexico to transfer dogs in need of rescue help and those who need expanded adoption options out to the Dog loving Portland, OR, metro area. We also help place some local dogs in need of finding forever homes. Because our dogs are in foster homes we get to know the dogs personalities and needs. As we know

the dogs well and how they do in a home environment, we do a great job in matching families with the right dog, and the right family for the dog!

UPDATE! ADOPTED!!!

Hi there! My name is Parker and I'm the older brother of Winston. We are looking for our forever home for our senior years together. We are both purebred West Highland Terriers! My birthday was last week and I'm a spry 9 years young, Winston will be 9 in September. We are 16 pound, healthy, loving dogs. If I do say so myself (and I will) we are pretty much the ideal dogs. We are house trained, love to snuggle with you, and we like to be outside and lounge in the yard. We are good leash walkers, Winston is less excited about long walks but I sure love them! We both love to play with other dogs, and we like cats too. We also love all the humans and little humans we meet out and about.

A home with a yard would be super sweet, but we could do an apartment if we get lots of outdoor time and socialization. We are after all terriers, and we've got energy!! Also, as Westies we are a wee bit high maintenance as we need regular grooming, vet visits & good quality food. It's a Westie thing, but we are so worth it.

Winston & I would do best in a home where we are the only dogs so we can be the center of attention, we love to snuggle with you. That said we do love to play with other dogs! I like to be near my people a bit more than Winston does, as he's a bit more independent than me. We also are PERFECT in the car. We like our crate and we jump right in for car rides. We are in good health with a recent vet visit ( I got a dental) and we are all fancy with a grooming too! Are you our forever family? Please come meet us as we can't wait to meet you!

Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $450. They are being fostered in SE Portland.

You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at https://underdogsrock.org/adopt-a-dog .

You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually.

Meet 4yr old and 15Lb, Snow White. Her babies are heading out to families of their own and Snow is ready to find her own family too.

Once Snow White learns to trust you and feels comfortable in your company she is Playful, snuggly, and so silly! Once she trusts you she loves to be the center of your attention, and enjoys getting pets.

She loves to zoom around and play chase in the backyard with our resident dogs, and would love to have another dog to play with and learn from. She loves to play with toys, shred paper bags with treats hidden inside, and has a very goofy personality.

Snow has the basics down, house trained, good on leash, and a good car riding companion. She does have some stranger danger if those she doesn’t know try to interact with her, but to those she bonds with she is dream. She's the perfect blend of cuddly love bug, silly playfulness, and active adventurer.

If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and playful addition to your family, Snow White is your girl!

The IMPORTANT thing to understand about Snow is she needs time to adjust to change. To successfully transition to a new home she has to be given time and space to warm up and accept new people and a new place at her own pace. No rushing this girl. She’ll let you know when she is ready. Treats help move this along. If you can be patient and wait for her to understand she is safe and cared for with you, she will reveal to you her sweet and devoted nature.

You can see about a meet Snow White by completing an on-line Underdogs Rock Rescue adoption application at https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application

ADOPTED

Sleepy, male, 3 months old and 6Lbs, is one of Underdog’s Rock Rescue Snow White litter. Mom is 15Lbs and pictured. Dad is unknown. We have no idea what all breeds might mixed in them. What we do know is all seven puppies are absolutely adorable and snuggle time with any one of them is the sweetest thing imaginable.

Sleepy is the sweetest, snuggliest boy. He looks to his litter mate and his foster siblings for guidance on what to do and who to trust. He consistently seeks out a good tight spot to sleep alongside the humans or very close to his sister. If given a choice, he definitely prefers to play alongside and sleep with the other dogs or with his people. He tries to get in bed with or snuggle up to his fosters dogs if his sister is doing other things.

He's the kind of dog you have a conversation with haha. He would do okay in a situation where he was around a lot (yoga studio dog, shop dog, travel companion) or with other pets and/or kids in the home.

If you are interested in applying to adopt, you can complete an online Underdogs Rock Rescue adoption at https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application

Included with his adoption fee will be the rest of his puppy vaccinations, a deworming, microchipping, rabies vaccination, and neuter between 6-9 months of age, as long as his adopter takes him to an Underdog designated Vet (which will be noted in the adoption agreement). He is being fostered in Vancouver, WA. Adoption fee is $475.

Underdog does not have a facility. All Underdogs are in foster homes. Everyone in the family must be available for a meet at the Fosters location. Home checks are part of the Underdog adoption process.

Sneezy, Female, 3 months old and 4Lb, is one of Underdog’s Rock Rescue Snow White litter. Mom is 15Lbs and pictured. Dad is unknown. We have no idea what all breeds might mixed in them. What we do know is all seven puppies are absolutely adorable and snuggle time with any one of them is the sweetest thing imaginable.

Sneezy is the spunky and fearless one of this litter of 7. She is the first one to the food bowl, first one down the stairs to play in the yard, and front and center to greet new people. She equally loves to wrestle and snuggle and is happy to switch back and forth between the two.

When it's time for a nap, she is happy to snuggle up in your neck or with her brother, but will also put herself to bed in her crate and seems content to spend periods of time alone. She would likely do equally well in a home with other dogs to love or with humans who will dote on her and take her places to hang with other people and pets. She is pretty close to potty trained; combination of potty pads and being taken outside frequently.

If you are interested in applying to adopt, you can complete an online Underdogs Rock Rescue adoption at https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application

Included with her adoption fee will be the rest of her puppy vaccinations, a deworming, microchipping, rabies vaccination, and neuter between 6-9 months of age, as long as her adopter takes her to an Underdog designated Vet (which will be noted in the adoption agreement). Sneezy is being fostered in Vancouver, WA.

Today is NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY! Everyday is Rescue Dog Day here at Underdogs, and in the spirit of the day meet Grumpy!

Introducing you to Grumpy! He's our adorable boy from the Snow White & The Seven Dwarves litter. (yes, mama had seven pups!)

Grumpy is hardly grumpy at all but alas, someone in the litter would get that name! He's anything but grumpy, so he can handle the name! He said "I'll take it!"

Grumpy is an 11 week old, 5 pound 3 ounce bundle of love. He is playful and sweet. He’s learning to go potty outside and uses his voice to let you know he needs to go out or when he’s feeling left out.

He loves playing with his foster siblings and enjoys taking breaks on his foster human’s lap.

We are not sure how Underdog Alfie keeps getting overlooked. He is travel ready and an easily portable 8Lbs. If he could speak for himself he would tell you how great he is with everyone, though his dream home would have another female dog around his size to play and snuggle up with in between lap time with his humans.

Meet 2 Yr. old, 15Lb, Bonnie! Bonnie is a delightful companion with a heart of gold and such a beauty. She's already potty trained but appreciates gentle reminders to go out. Treats are her love language, and words of affirmation make her tail wag with joy.

At home, Bonnie can be shy around strangers when they come into her home space, but once outside, she transforms into a social butterfly, spreading happiness wherever she goes. She's the perfect blend of cuddly couch potato and active adventurer.

Once Bonnie understands she is yours and you are hers, she relishes following you around, adores belly rubs, and is always up for a cozy cuddle session on the couch.

Bonnie is great with the other dogs in her foster home. She loves walks, playtime, and basking in the sun. With her sweet nature and love for life, Bonnie is sure to bring endless joy and companionship to your home. If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and playful addition to your family, this is your girl!

The IMPORTANT thing to understand about Bonnie is change is hard for her. To successfully transition to a new family she has to be given time and space to warm up and accept new people and a new place at her own pace, even if that takes days not hours. If you can do this the reward will be the sweetest most awesome little canine companion you could ever have wished for.

You can see about a meet with Bonnie by completing an on-line Underdogs Rock Rescue adoption application at https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application

Bonnie is spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, and up to date on vaccination and preventatives. She is being fostered in SW Portland.

UPDATE: Another Rescue was able to make space to get Max out to a safe place. 🙏

There are so many larger breed dogs in need of rescue, and they are the ones near impossible to find fosters or adopters form. Sometimes one comes along and you know you have to try. Max is one of those dogs. So here is hoping a unicorn adopter or foster sees Max’s before it is too late.

Foster-to-Adopt: https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application
Foster: https://underdogsrock.org/foster-a-dog-application

MAX soulful, gentle giant. Great with people and other dogs. Lovable family dog. Neutered! Only 1 year old. 85 lb. Please consider Max. Thank you!

Euthanasia listed and must be tagged by rescue, fostered, or adopted by Saturday 4/20 at 430pm.

This handsome tiger striped gentle giant is Max. He seems like such a great family dog. He's calm in his kennel leashes easy and is easy to handle on leash. He doesn't jump and is respectful of people. He tested great with both female and male dogs.

On 3/9, Max was returned from the adoptive home. Adopters stated he had escaped multiple times and damaged fences in the process. Sounds to like he was kept outside and not given proper enrichment and time to decompress. The positive part of all this is that he was reported to be great around small children and dogs

Great information on meeting a dog!

Great information on meeting a dog!

🛇 Use your Manners! 🛇
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

🚩When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

🚩If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

🚩People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

🚩Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

🤔 If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
⚠Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
⚠Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
⚠Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
⚠Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

🐶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

ADOPTED

8 pound, 8 year old, Sir Alfred Fitzgerald is an endearing and charismatic canine companion with a heart of gold.

Affectionately known as "Alfie" to his friends, this charming little fellow is an active and social guy who thrives on human interaction.

Alfie shares his foster home with another small dog and an unlikely companion—a bunny! We have no reason to believe he wouldn’t do well around a cat. His small size makes him best suited for a home with older, gentle, small dog savvy kids, if there are any in the home.

One of Alfie's favorite pastimes is going on long walks, where he can stretch his legs and take in all the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. He dreams of having a securely fenced yard where he can frolic and play to his heart's content, all while ensuring his safety.

Alfie is a social butterfly who loves nothing more than making new friends. He greets everyone he meets with a friendly disposition. He is also the epitome of a lap dog, craving nothing more than to snuggle up close and bask in the warmth of his human's affection.

He can be a bit of an escape artist, finding clever ways to explore his surroundings and satisfy his curiosity, so outings should always be on leash. Despite his mischievous tendencies, Alfie's heart is pure, and he'll shower his loved ones with as much love as they're willing to soak up.

Alfie is a loyal companion who enjoys being right by your side, whether you're lounging on the couch or embarking on a new adventure. While he thrives in the company of his human family, he could be equally content with or without another dog in the home, as long as he receives plenty of love and attention.

Alfie is looking for someone ready to make him a cherished member of the family. He is sure to leave a lasting paw print on the heart of anyone who welcomes him home.

An Underdogs Rock Rescue adoption application can be filled out online at https://underdogsrock.org/adoption-application

Alfie has had a recent Vet check to include blood work and urinalysis. Nothing concerning in his lab work up. As is common with older small dogs, he is in need of a dental. As part of his adoption, Underdog is providing a dental along with his neuter (he will also be microchipped at the same time) which is scheduled for June 17th. He is up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.

A post we shared about grape toxicity 🍇 disappeared due to Facebook sharing policies.

Here is the info:

-3 Veterinarians Discover That Tartaric Acid Is The Culprit

-ASPCA Poison Control Center (APCC) veterinarians solved the 20-year mystery of why grapes, raisins and sultanas are poisonous to dogs. It turns out that the tartaric acid in grapes causes these symptoms:

Vomiting
Diarrhea
Excessive thirst
Kidney damage or failure

-Grape toxicity has previously been difficult to assess. After ingesting grapes, some dogs suffered mildly, while others had acute renal failure. Knowing that tartaric acid is the culprit explains much. Grapes, raisins and sultanas contain different levels of tartaric acid based on the type of grape, where it was grown and ripeness.

More photos of Queenie and her pups! This little family was found under a truck at a Rodeo Grounds and were brought to the shelter. We named mama the Queen of the Rodeo and we gave the pups all rodeo names too!

Mama is 26 pounds and around 2 years old and she's just the best girl! Her pups are now approximately 7 weeks old and full of playful energy, they are around 5-6 pounds and will be ready for adoption in the next week. When grown we think these kiddos will be about 25 - 35 pounds. Perfect size!

If you are interested in adopting mama or one of her puppies, please fill out an application and write in which dog you are interested in. We are taking applications and approved applicants can set up meet ups now with pre adoptions and their actual adoptions happening in the next 2 weeks.
