UPDATE Sunday Feb 9th: Sometimes an adoption doesn't work out for various reasons. Mickey is back with AOS, and they will continue to love and care for him and find his forever home. We cannot thank them enough for all the wonderful work they do. They have saved COUNTLESS Waukegan cats. Mickey is in the best hands. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a difference can happen in just one month!!! January 3rd and 5th of this year were two of the saddest days in WAGS's history. Mickey was dumped outside with a deformed leg, and Zelda was thrown into a dumpster, frozen stuck to a blanket, with a corncob blocking her intestines. Thanks to Waukegan Police Animal Control, YOUR DONATIONS TO WAGS, The Rosenthal Family Foundation, Veterinary Specialty Center of Bannockburn, Animal Outreach Humane Society and Reach Rescue Inc, these two innocent souls are healthy, happy, and being loved and cared for in their FOREVER HOMES!!! They were both adopted TODAY!!! Thank you to EVERYONE who cared and made this happen!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Zoey (now Zelda) is THRIVING in foster care and is now up for adoption with Reach Rescue Inc !!!
Thank you to the WONDERFUL folks at Reach for stepping up for her!!

🐶Zelda is a sweet 3-year-old Bulldog mix who faced the unthinkable. She was found literally thrown away in a metal dumpster in Waukegan at the beginning of our cold January 💔. Shortly after her rescue, it was found that she had a painful blockage from eating a corn cob and needed emergency surgery. Thanks to her fighting spirit, her rescuers at Waukegan Animals Getting Saved (WAGS), amazing medical care at Veterinary Specialty Center Bannockburn, all those that donated to her care, and many more, she’s now healthy and thriving in her foster home! 🌟💪

Zelda is an affectionate girl who loves cuddles, playtime, and being around people. She enjoys soft stuffies and can entertain herself with her favorite Kong. 🧸 She also has the best happy wiggle! Mickey is resting SO comfortably tonight in his medical foster home, following his leg amputation. We know his foster mom and she will be spoiling him beyond belief! After he is fully recovered, he will be up for adoption through Animal Outreach Humane Society Stay tuned for more updates!

Look who is out of surgery!!!! Mickey did fantastic yesterday, and tonight he is resting comfortably in a temporary foster home until he can be transferred to his medical foster home with a wonderful rescue in McHenry, Animal Outreach Humane Society! They will care for him through his recovery, help him adapt to being a loved and spoiled indoor "tripod", and make sure he goes to a WONDERFUL forever home. Thank you SO much for supporting him and allowing this wonderful new chapter in his life to happen!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

UPDATE on Zoey, dog thrown in the dumpster with a bowel obstruction - We all got some sleep last night (including most importantly, sweet Zoey!) As we regrouped after her emergency surgery, we've been able to talk to others involved, and found out from one of our Waukegan Police first responders that Zoey was FROZEN TO THE BLANKET SHE WAS LAYING ON in the dumpster. At Animal Control, she peed heavily into her blanket and was found laying in it, barely able to move, so we wonder if that's what happened while she was in the sub-freezing dumpster overnight. It also makes us look at this new video differently. This is the full video from the people who found her. We knew it was strange that she didn't lift her head in response to their calls... We'll likely NEVER know her past, who did this to her, and the suffering she endured before and during her night in the dumpster, but we KNOW that going forward, she will NEVER want for ANYTHING EVER AGAIN in her sweet life. Zoey is now settling in at her medical foster home with Reach Rescue Inc, where she will be treated the way all animals deserve. THANK YOU ALL!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good morning! Guess who gets to leave the hospital today!!!! Zoey continues eating and peeing like a champ. She will be discharged later today!! HUGE thank you to the staff at Veterinary Specialty Center Bannockburn who took such great care of her and got her through the surgery with flying colors!! Everyone there is in love with her and with how sweet, affectionate, and wiggly she is!! THANK YOU AGAIN to EVERYONE who stepped up to literally save her life!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
