It's hot enough for us humans so it must be so much worse for our fur coated pets 🐾🐾

❗️ Heat stroke warning

With temperatures soaring, please be aware of the signs of heat stroke in dogs – thank you to our friends at Now for this handy temperature warning. Our furry friends can really struggle in the heat, so it is vital we keep them cool in these extreme temperatures 🐕

🐶 Walk in the early morning or later in the evening when it is cooler
💧 Always provide plenty of water
😎 Access to cool and shady areas
❌ Never ever leave your dog in a parked car on a sunny day
☀️ Watch out for the signs of heat stroke and seek veterinary care immediately if you are concerned

If you are due to attend a donation session with us this week, please be mindful of travelling with your dog in the heat. Keep them in an air conditioned car where possible and provide plenty of water. We will continue to review the situation and will ensure we are only running donation sessions if it is safe to do so. As always, the welfare of your dog is our top priority.

It's getting hot, hot, hot 🌞

With warmer temperatures, you might be looking forward to having more outdoor fun adventures alongside your dog. During those hot days, it’s important that we keep our dogs safe from overheating.

🐾If the ground is too hot for your hand, its too hot for your dog.

🐕Walk early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat of the day.

🚗Never leave your dog in the car!

🦟Watch out for fleas and ticks.

💦Lay a wet towel on the ground for your pet to lie on.

🍉Get creative with some frozen treats.

🐶Let them be your guide! We know our dogs can be reluctant to go out when it rains and it’s usually the same when it’s hot! . . .

Let's keep our hot dogs cool during this heatwave ☀️☀️

With hot weather warnings being issued by the Met Office, it's important to remember the signs of heatstroke in dogs. Never risk walking your dog at peak times, keep them cool & safe. 🥵☀️

If you suspect your dog may be suffering from heatstroke, call your vet immediately to get a diagnosis and an appropriate plan of action. Whilst you are phoning your vet, move your dog to a cool area, offer water for them to drink, and pour tepid water over their body.

UPDATE: We recommend using tepid water (room temperature) whilst getting urgent veterinary advice. We believe every individual dog deserves the best possible care, which would require personalised veterinary guidance. We support the use of cold water once a vet has made a diagnosis of heat stroke.
